Almost a year ago I did a tutorial video on how to use the Analog IO board on MiSTer FPGA to get crystal clear and amazing RGB signal into your PVM! But everyone kept asking me to do another tutorial talking about component video on MiSTer FPGA....so here it is! Well its really a retrogaming mashup of RGB, component and VGA video outputs on MiSTer FPGA...so it's even better!
Consider this the 2022 MiSTer Analog Video guide!
Patreon Thanks : Seth Peterson, John Thompson, Paul daniel, Porch, Jon Anderson, RayceARoni, Kuranghi, Jason Hixon, Sam Matthews, Alex Tessler, Jonathan Leung, Martin Donlon, Tom Van Deusen, Barabob, Steve Randall, Ahab, K-2, Eric Walklet, J Z, Ivar Wennerholm, Adrien Sebbane, tobemorecrazy, Mike Puelinckx, Tony Escobar, H7, Humanoide70, Ben Parfitt, Holder Schmidt, Tim Lehner, matschmonster, Shad Uttam, Dan L, James Mann, Richard Schneider, Sunder Raj and Dorfus!
I asked, you answered...and I try to listen :) Of all the requests for new content on the channel one of the most frequently asked for videos is a series on the Terasic DE-10 Nano MiSTer FPGA hardware...so here it is! Retro gaming goodness.
On this episode of our MiSTer series we are going to be talking about all the different analog video sources you can get out of your MiSTer FPGA, breaking down what cables and settings you need in the MiSTer INI files....and more! Oh and if you want a MiSTer FPGA S-Video and component video tutorial...just leave me a comment!

Even though I'm well past this being useful to me, I love that it was done. A good idea is speaking on using the service menu on either the Sony or JVC TVs to get things looking better (assuming the only issue at that time is service menu related). It took me a few weeks to find anything online about mines, then took me another few months to get explanations of each setting at a super generic level to know what settings I was actually changing. I believe most Sony Trinitrons have the same service menu options.

    • @VideoGameEsoterica

The most annoying thing about analogue out is that the Neogeo is significantly to the left of all the other console cores. If it wasn’t for Sorg hating CRTs and forcing his attitude on the project, we’d have a horizontal shift like on the JT cores…

I think you miss too much of the original hardware's charm, by watching these cores on modern progressive screens. Interlaced scanlines was how all these games were designed and played back in the day. Some machines even used the artifacts these screens produced, to mix colours by having two colours next to each other and flickering between them. Apple II being a prime example. This is a great video explaining some of the 'how to' without the why they were. So I think you should get into component and S-video, although there's some current development you may want to wait to mature.

I managed to get the manual of some of those and none of them mention supporting 15kHz signals and it was unfortunate that I could only find either 16:9 or 5:4 models, not a single one of them was 4:3. Let me tell you one trick so you can capture video images from crt screens clean and clear. You have to filme/capture those images in 30fps, thats it.
Tell me if that worked for you, i hope i did help you

You can do 60 as well. You need to be divisible by 60 and you also need a shutter speed that’s divisible. In whole numbers
