Toranaga is playing 5D chess while everyone else is playing tic-tac-toe.

I saw somebody mention that pheasant is supposed to age to make it easier to skin. It's not supposed to stink, though.
Also by taking the Cannon regiment from the son and giving it to Omi, Toranaga is trying to put a wedge between the two as he doesn't think the two kids come up with good ideas together.

25:10 that makes me wonder if his sake excuse was a bold face lie. If he split the arrow while drunk I doubt he “accidentally “ hit Mariko while under the influence

IMHO, Torunaga made up a plausible story that would explain why he wouldnt punish Omi for how he manipulated his son. The reason for that would be to create division between Omi and Yashubige by promoting Omi to command a regiment that bel9ngs to Yabushige which we saw directly in the next scene.

I think the lesson that John needed to learn here was that when you have the burden of responsibility, you don't have the freedom to do and say whatever you want. John is someone who values freedom above all else. He wears his heart on his sleeve and moves without thought for consequences. But with power comes responsibility. This was a feeling I experienced when I first started hiring employees. All of a sudden, I had people whose careers and livelihoods were in my hands. I had the responsibility to be on my A-game at all times, because if I messed up, the people under me would be affected too.

Mariko said Uejiro died serving a great purpose, Blackthorn obviously didn't understood this but Uejiro was friends with Muraji, the spy, the two of them had a meeting and after this conversation Uejiro offered himself to take the pheasant and get killed. With his death Uejiro took the blame as the spy and protected Lord Toranaga's real spy, that's the great purpose he was serving.

Toronaga really lucked out, getting buried by a thin layer of dirt. Almost all landslides involve rocks and boulders, and it'd be next to impossible to not get torn and crushed into bits by those.

The reason they denied the rabbit stew was during that time the Japanese are pescetarians due to their religion primarily being Buddhism and Shintoism which only allowed them to consume meat from fish or the sea, other forms of meat are considered foul.

The craziest thing about this show is that it's not the Japanese culture I don't understand, it's the English culture. What the fuck was up with the bird and why was he letting it rot?

@@YaBoyRockLee It doesn't seem to have become that popular in the West but its a really fun drama and has some cool and 'well budget' action, if it makes to a patreon poll i hope it get some recognition.
