- Cockpit Casual returns with the FIRST in a THREE-PART series titled "Art of the Long-Haul". The story follows Steve Giordano and Aaron Van Arsdale as they trek from Alice Springs Australia to Francazal France in an Airbus A320 that was just re-activated from long term storage in the desert.
Filmed in late 2021, COVID restrictions caused some major challenges with travel, and in Part One - Steve and Ava flew Emirates (first class) to Brisbane via Dubai, then chartered a King Air 200 from Archerfield to get to the Outback where the airplane was being stored. The empty aircraft was flown all the way to France by way of fuel stops in Jakarta, Colombo, Muscat, Cairo, and Tarbes.
The Cockpit Casual series is a self-filmed, narrated, and produced collection of travel and adventure videos filmed by Giordano, featuring an original Jazz soundtrack recorded by Giordano's father Steve Giordano Sr. The flights are empty ferry flights on large commercial jet aircraft on behalf of the leasing companies. Giordano is a former airline pilot and currently runs the Nomadic Aviation Group; a Part 91 flight department specializing in flight-test and delivery throughout the airline industry. You can find out more about Cockpit Casual on the Speedtapefilms website: www.speedtapefilms.com
Looking forward to this one
Sir Please Comment On my this video I will be thankful.

😳 I’ve been flying around the world (literally) for the last 72 hours here and just realized this reply wasn’t from just “anyone”. I’m humbled! Thanks Jawed. I’m super stoked that you’re watching & like the content!!
Jawed
Jawed I really don’t know what to say but.. I’m trying to create a new thing, just like 16 years ago in 2005 like u created : RUclips..
I’m currently Trying to create a new RUclips or something new, i need your help.. Or just comment me 😐 Thank you…
So, I’ve been trying to come up with the right words to say to you regarding the “me at the zoo” situation. When you hit 100K subscribers, rumor has it RUclips sends you a plaque or something. Cool.
When your channel gets mentioned by one of the FOUNDERS on the description of the FIRST RUclips video ever uploaded - that’s an honor beyond words. I’m incredibly humbled. You built this amazing “machine” and find my content to be aligned with YOUR vision of what it should be used for… that’s just… damn amazing. If you ever want to ride along, I’m sure I can work it out 😎
Otherwise, I’m speechless 🙏
Still scratching my head trying to determine why this channel hasn’t gone full blown viral. All things aviation, travel, golf and jazz is pretty much right here in each upload.
Takes time I guess…. I’m convinced if I keep putting up high quality content, people will notice. The one disadvantage I have is that it takes me so long to produce each video, the YT algorithm doesn’t push my videos as often as someone who uploaded shorter videos more frequently, but I think the thing everyone appreciates is that I value quality over quantity - so I believe it’s just a matter of time 🤞🏼
This channel WILL go viral!
Agree!! I dont understand how aviation lovers havent fount it yet
Absolutely!
Hit TV show filmed and ready to go.
YT determines. not popularity
God, time always flies when watching these episodes! Music blended in perfectly, especially during Jakarta approach. I still can‘t believe you record and edit all this stuff as a side project…👍🏻
Hey, If you’re gonna do it, do it right!
Crazy lives, crazy job. Thank you so much for sharing. I don't know how you make it to stay awake !
Lots of practice
"There's a golf course over here too in the middle of the runway" .... Always looking out for those important things... ;)
Ava has “golfdar”
@@CockpitCasual aaah, I figured it was baked into your final checklist.... Scan environment for potential golf courses.
Navigating Covid while flying out of Brisbane has been the biggest headf**k my company has had to deal with, I feel your pain!
Thank goodness things are back to normal there! 🤞🏼hope it stays that way
@@CockpitCasual loving the content!
I’ve only just discovered your videos. I am glued to the TV through all of them. I love the music, I love the commentary and, obviously, I love the content. I had just gotten my private licence when I was diagnosed with a terminal illness, so no more flying for me (unless it’s on MSFS2020 or it’s as a passenger), but I wanted to go for my commercial licence and I often wondered what it would be like to do cargo or ferrying. Anyway, your videos provide me with a familiar comfort I didn’t know I needed; but I’m very much enjoying it. Keep the coming; the production quality is so good 👍🏼🛩️
No! So sorry to hear my friend. I’m glad you enjoy these. We’re all terminal - please keep fighting 💪
No toilet on the flight to Alice! You earned your salary right there.
I've only ever flown J on Emirates and even that was exceptional.
Absolutely my favourite aviation channel on RUclips, can’t wait for this!
Thanks Ethan!!
What an epic trip. Just to ferry an aircraft is a humongous undertaking. WOW
The King Air must've been great fun. I always prefer to fly on turboprop aircraft over regional jets - obviously not because of the comfort or noise, but it is always a much more interesting aviation experience.
George Collier avgeek confirmed?
seemed a loooong flight, on a commuter fitted King Air.
Fully agree - a few weeks later we did the same from Darwin on a C441 Conquest. Got to ride on a Falcon 10 Air Ambulance to Juba, a Falcon 7X to Australia from California, and a bunch of lears and hawkers from KUL into China since Covid. Prior to that, I’d never been in a bizJet except the old beater Citation I owned with partners (and flew myself). The smaller the plane, the bigger the adventure I say. I do get to fly/ferry DHC-8s sometimes (still rated and current in it) which is always a blast. Got to fly one into Bagram in Afghanistan last year too.. 👍🏼
I fly BNE - ASP quite often and it's bad enough in a jet. To go off the back of US to Dubai through across the IDL and a couple hours later then spend 5 hours in a B200 to ASP with no toilet is straight up nightmare fuel. You're always punching a westerly jetstream flying that way and it would have been a criminally slow groundspeed in a B200. Massive respect to these guys. Guessing this was literally the only way they could get there.
Great content! Keep it up! I have loads of respect for what you all do. Those long hours are no joke.
So we’ll produced. Story, photography, editing, narration, music, on and on. These videos are works of art. BZ
Thanks so much 😎
Gotta love the King Air; my A&P school had a vintage one and it was so cool. Tons of old Bendix, King and RCA avionics from the 70s. Soo many clicky knobs. Really cool airframe and crazy to think it's so longlived.
Seeing this older videos during COVID are absolutely fascinating. I'm starting as an A&P soon for a major and luckily I never had to deal with this sort of stuff. Crazy how much of a pain in the ass it was back then
Was wild - was also our busiest time ever!
Love your Dad’s jazz! Looking forward to the new series this weekend. Best aviation vids out there.
Man this has to be the best video I have ever seen regarding aviation. Not only the laid back production style, not only you guys, not only the nature and sceneries, but all that combined (+plus the absolutely amazing jazz music) are creating something very special. Man, aviation, jazz and nature combined are the best thing someone could put together. Thanks man! Do not stop! RUclips will reward you✌🏼
Appreciate that! It’s a unique formula!! No intention to quit - but please be patient because they take time to make; especially when I’m out flying so much 😅
@@CockpitCasual Good things take time. I would also love to know more about your journey as a pilot. How did you start and how did you get where you are now. I would love to hear that story!
Glad the Asia office guy pronounced our local airport names Brisbane, Archerfield and Alice etc.
I used to ferry twin otters from Canada to the Maldives and Asia. I love this channel. Just discovered it today!
Are you hiring?:)
Just found you ....there's no going back to the other flying channels
I’m a fresh CPL pilot and I dream to do what these guys are doing. This Chanel gives me motivation to continue pursuing my dream.
Love it, thanks Steve!
Super cool guys. Like the calming music, views, and adventure.
It’s great seeing Brisbane airport in these videos as it isn’t featured much anywhere else. As it’s close to home it takes the content from an even higher level.
Steve, fantastic!
Fantastic as usual guys look forward to ep2
This is the best pilot content on the internet
Awesome episode as always, thank you!
All that flying an Av geeks dream.
Hopefully you have no more troubles on your next trip into Australia, we are now "open". Keep up the good work, I look forward to your next video.
Heading to SYD then ASP on Tuesday! Yes - much easier now although getting to Alice is still tough with the limited schedules into NT
outstanding ready for round two
Loved it, as always, Lads 🇦🇺 ✈️ 💙
Guys this is brilliant. It sheds a whole new light on what you do to keep the planes, which we rely upon, in the air.
Brilliant. Well done guys. Great footage 👏👏
Love this so much!
One of the best videos on aviation I've seen on RUclips in a long time. No over produced, narrative was incisive, nice pace, informative and interesting. Thank you.
Appreciate that! I’m started to get the process down! Now if there were only more hours in the day 🤔
Awesome video and amazing soundtrack as always! Looking forward for part 2...
Awesome content Steve, Looking forward to the next part!
These episodes FLY by! Great video as always!!
Literally
Rewatched all your previous videos in anticipation. Safe flying!
Great story-telling on video as per usual! Can't wait for the next part ...
Amazing as always, can't wait for the next episode
You don’t have to wait long!
Oh the agony of travel, Yes I will have more caviar and champagne :) .
Five hours on a king air 200 seems like torture! Love the video!
Was brutal but we did what we had to during Covid. Sure hope to never have that situation again!
Wish I caught this video a year ago. I can somewhat relate having traveled during 2020 and mid 21. Rules changing all the time, some places easier to to deal with than others, but seeing the issues from this perspective really showed the reality of the situation. Thanks for sharing.
Love the music in all their films.
Awesome video, a very realistic portrait of life on the road for seasoned pilots. Great choice of background music.
omg..you living my dream.
I'm going to watch this tomorrow on my long haul flight from EWR to BOS.
My man wearing his Boeing lanyard while taking off in an Airbus. 😂
I don’t coordinate my lanyards… lol this 777 one has been with me for a while and it’s quite soft now!
Super fascinating video! Please do more!
The music and narration when you were in the charter going to ASP gave major LA Noire vibes!
Incredible content and feels like we're actually there with you. Not being able to travel as much these days brings back old memories. Thanks Steve!
Thanks Martin - I have so much content that I've filmed over the last year so I'm eager to produce more!
Quality content, really enjoyable - great storytelling, great soundtrack and of course excellent video footage. Best content on RUclips currently.
Much appreciated !!
@@billkgeorge Hi Bill, why would you say that? I am a regular viewer. Do you have a problem with people who praise others' work? EDIT: Clearly you do. I see you have commented similar on others too!
@@c898dba ppl are so weird. Someone was ranting and raving earlier that I was a hacker and a bot. 🤷🏻♂️
Netflix give this guy a chèque !!!!
Love the Avtalk podcast t-shirt.
Finally got time to watch this series in peace and man, well worth it. Thank you so much for the content.
It’s my pleasure to take you all along
the jazz with the content is phenomenal!
Brilliant video! Thanks for taking us along.
Always a pleasure… Cheers!!!
Excellent episode as usual. Love these vids. Lets me "travel the world" while sitting at home. 👍👍
Great work looking forward to part 2 🙂
Thank you! I need to finish part 3. Hoping to make some progress today
My close friend showed me your channel yesterday. We are both commercial pilots in Canada and amazed by your channel. This for sure should be viral. Amazing content- keep this coming ! Best channel I’ve seen.
Cheers Evan
" Clear that shit " is the way to go for sure ! huge S/O to both of you guys been doing this so properly
😂 it’s going straight into our FOM
Or as one "Big Airways" Captain announced flying TPE-HKG in 1996:
"Turn that fx xxng switch off" as a warning popped up in the Climb.
I was in the Jumpseat barely able to contain my chortle...
Happy days....they don't left Staff in there now unless you have permission from Queen Elizabeth
Love the content
The jazz is so good. Love the vibe of your vids!
I stumbled over your Twitter awhile back. If I could be reborn and choose my life after what ive seen in 43yrs, I would choose to find a way into Nomad.
It looks exhausting sometimes- but randomly jetting away to a lottery-picked place on earth with an adventure attached to it and flying insanely amazing aircraft.
Wow. Love this
Thanks! It’s quite the lifestyle we’ve created. I’d say no complaints, but I AM a pilot, so that’s impossible 😂
Damn good stuff.................made my Sunday in Colorado. Cheers!
👍🏼👍🏼 thanks Scott
This is excellent. And your father is an excellent guitarist. Love all of it. Info is to the point as is the video.
Thank you.
Great Part 1!
Looking forward to the next part, especially good ol' MCT.
You don’t have to wait long! I’ve gotta finish 3. Hoping to make a significant dent in it today.
Best AvGeek Channel! Thanks for giving us a peak into this rather unique type of operation. These are the adventures and missions we geeks dream about!!! 😂
It’s a total pleasure to make these videos when people appreciate them!! 🙏
I like that you are wearing your Boeing lanyard whilst flying the Airbus! Great video, love it and can't wait for more from you. Thanks for sharing
What an amazing adventure. I never knew there were so many planes parked up at Alice Springs..makes sense of course with the dry climate. You did come within a few hundred Kilometers or so to me when you left the Australian Mainland.looks like you went straight over Broome. I am in Karratha in NW Oz. Thanks again for sharing this amazing trip. Look forward to many more and who knows, maybe one day you will be in the area.
ASP is a relatively new place for aircraft storage but it’s in high gear there. >150 jets now. Yeah it’s usually dry but not this year!!!
Been waiting for this, great as usual!!!
Great episode. Really dig the soundtrack too!
Thanks! I have a huge library now of the avant-garde stuff I use on the transitions. Getting better at it
Great start to this series. I think the King Air ride was the most interesting part of it all lol. It’s mind boggling how you guys can just kick the tires and light the fires immediately after travelling all that distance. Anxiously looking forward to the next segment.
It was the highlight for us too. We did it a month later from Darwin in a Conquest too. Maybe that footage will make a future video
Great video 👍🏾👍🏾
Cool, the ominous jazz is back!
Lots of ominous jazz in the files…. pop can be dark sometimes 😂
Loving this channel !
Yum yum, that caviar looks good
Commenting on every Cockpit Casual film I watch to help the algorithm. Absolutely incredible content, can't believe you've only got 40,000 subscribers - don't lose hope!
Thanks. Yeah I don’t post enough to really get the algo to notice. They take time!
Bravo Zulu on this video and all the other videos! I work for a major aviation leasing company and have been sent on similar journeys, mainly for repos but now I can show my kids what it’s like to travel on the go. I flew around the world doing a repo in Mumbai 2yo and I still have jet lag!
Marc, your name is so familiar I’m sure we’ve worked together on something at some point
Strewth (to use a good Aussie word). What an amazing video. Can’t wait for the rest. Reckon you have about the coolest job in aviation.
I love this. The pure insanity of your working schedules makes me smile. Can´t quite decide if your job is the worst or the best job in the history of mankind, but I can assure you that I am WAY too old for doing what you do... 🙂
Some days it’s the best, some it’s the worst. There’s very little in between!
Great video and love the jazz.
"Australia is a shit show." Damn straight. This vid triggers me a bit, having been through all the Australian (Melbourne) COVID bullshit, but it's still the best aviation content on RUclips.
Definitely a shit show but I still love Australia and can’t wait to get back down under
@@CockpitCasualNo doubt. Gotta stock up on those RM Williams caps!!
As usual an excellent video Steve and the choice of music is awesome. Fly safe mate.
That bloody king air! I’m about 1km from the end of Rwy 28r at Archerfield. You took off to the north west, when they take off to the south east (10l) it’s a nice 5/6am pt6a alarm clock. Really enjoy your videos.
Was quite the adventure!
Bloody nice work on this series mate, love the background audio too. Hopefully soon here in Australia we will have relaxed covid rules so your can explore more before having to leave. Keep up the epic videos 🍻
Love Emirates, both First and Business. The other difference between the A380 and the 777, aside from the shower, is the bar!
Thanks for the great peak into your business
That’s the aim! Glad you’re enjoying it….
Another quality video you've put together Steve!
Appreciate that
Dude you should be on TV
Great video as always…
LOVE San Francisco Airport, thats my home one.
Oh my I didn't expect to get a heart! Thank you. LOVE the video so far, im about a third of the way though. Putting off studying and watching RUclips instead,,,can't complain when its Cockpit Casual 😎
This channel is by far the best thing on youtube 👍
Love it - thank you 💪
Wow - so many legs in a day...not to mention actually getting to Alice Spring! That is a lot of stamina!
💪 definitely the hardest part of the job!
Another winner Guys!!!!! Just loved this...video quality is incredible and what an education.....Bravo....!!!
👍🏼🛫
I listened to you on the Pilot to Pilot podcast and had to checkout the speedtapefilms channel. This is amazing! I’m looking forward to what’s to come!
Love this channel. just found it.
This job seems so fun and exciting but at they same time so stressful and time consuming, opposites indeed, a dream job for sure, for me at least, great videos
Definitely all of the above!! Worth the stress usually.
I need to pick my jaw up off the floor - please stand by. Okay. Flipping AWESOME, Steve. As a 80's-90's road warrior, I have zero idea how you pull these trips off. That said, looked to be about 450 million aircraft on the ground at Alice. Or, 450 million dollars prob wouldn't get them all. And taking off in a jet that's been sitting that long, you must have a pretty deep pre-flight experience going on, yes? Lastly - what an awesome production. The filming, the sound - well done you! Safe travels sir!
Thanks TDW! Easily half a bil on the ground there. Craziness. Yep - we have a “process” with the desert pick ups. It’s what we specialize in! I left the airlines in 2014 and this is now ALL we do!
Algo took me to the channel. Riveted. Immediately liked and subscribed. Quality video.
Loving all the videos, especially the music and production quality! Can’t wait for the next one.
Curious about how much notice and flexibility you have once the lessors come knocking? You already shared first hand how tough the planning for this trip was.
It really depends on a lot of factors. Sometimes we get tons of notice, sometimes we’re scrambling and pumping the brakes on them. All in all, 2 weeks notice is ideal for the initial planning and then an update within 5 days normally gets it done. A lot comes down to geography, travel options, permit lead time, and the window in which the Ferry permit is issued. Thanks!!
@@CockpitCasual Thanks for sharing! Love the community engagement here... excited for more stories especially with all the potential upcoming movement from lessors... if you're allowed to film and share!
Another great video. You are a great storyteller. All the little details are interesting to see.
Wow, I wish I could fly an A320✈️
