Sorry guys......I made a mistake. It's Moshannon Creek, also known as cancer creek, or "Red" Moshannon Creek that is contaminated. Thanks for pointing that out Hound. Had a great time on the AFT! I'll do my best to answer any questions about the trail or the gear we used, just post them below. Thanks for watching! For photos of my hikes, gear, and everyday shenanigans check out @motivatedbymountains on Instagram. Happy Trails!
@@roxskater111 Dont drink from Moshannon Creek. Also known locally as "red" Moshannon Creek. All the other water sources are fine. And theres a lot of them.
@@roxskater111 It's got acid mine drainage, so it's not something a filter will handle. But the trail crosses a bunch of streams that feed into it, and they're all fine.
Agree completely on the trash!! We always try to take at least one piece. If we are on our way out, we try to pick up whatever we find (that is if we can actually carry it). We found a refrigerator once, couldn't fit that in my pack!!
Nice to see the AFT get some attention! Try Six Mile Run Rd instead of Clay Mine Rd for a shortcut; you cut out the logged area, but still get Wolf Rocks and the great stream walk after it.
I found this video and it was really good. I checked out your videos and subscribed to your channel. I can’t wait to see your videos. Take Care and Keep Exploring The Outdoors.
Great and fun video! This is on my list for this year! One question , did you guys go clockwise or counterclockwise? I think counterclockwise saves the views for the end of the loop...
Moshannon creek is "Cancer Creek" or locally usually called Red Moshannon creek, Black Moshannon creek is what runs into the lake, and since its in PA most up here call it "crick" instead of creek
I agree about "what if everyone picked up just one piece of trash".... BUT, also feel "what if everyone packed out all their own trash, and didn't leave any in the woods/on the trail, to begin with."
Unfortunately, that is never going to happen as long as there is evil in the world. The rest of us have to be more good than the evil. The most perfect individual that ever lived suffered way more than His share. Fortunately, we just need to do a little extra.
Yea man. There are a lot of creeks, bogs, and nice scenery. It was a fun hike for sure. That hoodie is 100% alpaca, and it's made by Appalachian Gear Company. I wear it constantly, on or off trail! There's a gear review on my channel with all the info...👍
Thank you "Briar" for the kind words, it was great meeting you and ChooChoo. Enjoyed the video, especially the shot when you had your camera on the road.
The orange color in the water is sulfur. Many foods you eat contain sulfur. Like most things eating too much would have side affects but it won't kill you. Many streams that have some sulfur also have plenty of wildlife. The orange color is alarming but streams that don't have it may be much worse for your health. As always, be sure to filter and/or treat. Looks can be deceiving.
@@TheUltralightMindset I do appreciate your video. I also appreciate that you are picking up other people's trash. Do you have a link to the site where the Forest Service deems the creek unsafe? I have found many government agencies have an agenda. And that agenda is not necessarily in our best interest. I believe in questioning everything including government agencies.
@@liteafllc4482 not too bad. By the way my 35L Curve and fanny pack was perfect on the Batona over Thanksgiving. I'll be hitting you and Lori up for that new hammock tarp as soon as it hits the market!

I live in northern NJ and this hike is on my 2020 list! Is the water so bad it cant even be filtered?

Yea. We went counter clockwise. All the views, Ralph's pretty good view, etc were toward the end. Great hike. Lots of fun

Love those views around the creek. Is that a wool jacket you was wearing? It looked warm. Cool trip. Seems like everyone had a great time

“The end” killed me I was like wth!?
Which part?
Must have been Jackson going for a trailrun after the hike. Kids like the Energizer Bunny. His trail name, "ChooChoo" fits him well! 🤣

For Chris AF: How far of a drive from South Jersey?
Good question. Maybe he can answer that....
