im happy the Felinid Auxilla corp is actually a very competent and professional fighting force. they complement the 2 other auxillia forces well, with them being swift, stealthy and deadly where the Ogryns are overwhelmingly powerful, nigh invulnerable and loyal and the Ratlings are accurate, jovial, charismatic and morale raising fellows.
I find it hillarious how Ratlings and Ogren are openly despised by most commissars for no reason. But just a lil exposure to these felanids makes the commissar gradually like them like he’s a rat infected with super toxoplasmosis
ratlings are cowards and thieves. Ogryn are stupid but incredibly tough and loyal. Commissars actually like Ogryn Boneheads since they make incredibly effective bodyguards
Ratlings are nigh pathological petty criminals with as close to zero respect for authority as they can get away with in any scenario, so that one makes sense. Ogryn are a... different challenge. Ogryn are what separates good Comissairs from bad ones. A bad Comissair hits a brick wall with Ogryn, because you kinda can't intimidate them to get what you want; there's only so scary you can make yourself before they lash out to solve the problem you present, you can't just shoot them with anything less than a bolter, and half the time they aren't refusing orders out of traditional disobedience, but from confusion. A good Comissair takes the time to actually learn what motivates them, and is one that has a much more patient and goal oriented approach, that finds the best guardsman a comissair could ask for in them.
Ogren aren’t TO bad, but their child like minds, I would imagine, make communicating battlefield strategies that much harder. Ogren are handled differently than guardsmen, a good commissar knows how to work each requirement of soldiers. Penal colony, imperium agents, sisters of battle, Ogren, psyker, etc require that much more care. These soldiers were more “we are here to work” and did 90% the job for less pay. I mean, this sounds like the death korp of Krieg met an inspiration perk.
I can’t believe you chose these as a topic. I literally ordered a squad of Catfolk from Artel miniatures for my daughter. I’m slowly building up an Abhuman army, the Ratlings from Victoria miniatures will be next
Warhammer's Felinids are like Battletech's Canopus cat-girls: Everyone seems to know they exist, but there's very little actual info aside from a short article and a few images.
Partly because that topic has been covered so extensively in various other forms of pop culture and media that to expand upon it would be arguably unnecessary. And partly because certain people just don't like to have fun. In my opinion. 😂 Just like not being able to make Beastmen auxillia for either Chaos 0r Imperial. I mean sure, the Tzaangor exist and the Blackfortress game set had like 20 40K beastmen but who is going to go and by like 5 boxes at $200 bucks a pop for 5 custom squads?
This is my favorite 40k lore video. You have no idea how much research I have done on these cuties. I’m so glad you did a lore video on them. Thank you.
I started the video and started perusing the comments while listening to the audio in the background. when I saw your comment I got super excited and felt cheated when I didn't hear it. 10/10 storytelling either way so I'm not that disappointed but it would have been pretty cool to hear the SWAT Cat theme song especially this version of it. ruclips.net/video/aSA1SciyEGQ/видео.htmlsi=8ZSu3iRPo8s5A91S
Hey, Swat Kats are awesome and also pretty close to 40k: their world had super advanced technology but also magic, monsters, undead and even alternate hellish dimensions. Who says that wasn't "Carlos McConnell", their home planet?
That sounds more like a metaphor than a factual description, but oh well. The Chaos Gods are incorporeal beings anyways, any physical appearance would only show what they want you to see.
@AnonD38 good luck explaining that to the newer people coming into the hobby. Space wolves are called furries because they have fangs and heightened senses. Sometimes can do the whole turn into a werewolf.. so I guess all werewolves are furries now. The whole furry comparisons are getting boring. Someone likes the more viking aspect of the space wolves.. nope furry.
As I understand the Emperor's actual words upon learning of the Felinids was "Holy shit, finally Catgirls! Malchiador owes me 60 bucks! Make sure you keep them away from Russ."
Just goes to show what a blessing to the 40k community brother Baldermort truly is. At this point I'm convinced he could take any piece of 40k lore and create something fantastic from it, from the most well known all the way to the most obscure. Brother Bald has us covered.
@@hang_kentang6709 I read an original setting sci-fi setting that did have “cat people” and your description is pretty dead on. Diminutive creatures they are not.
Love this Sir. I have never heard much of the Felinid peoples, but you spin such a great yarn that this lore is just wonderful to indulge into. Thank You Brother B:)
Wow. I'm going to have to revise my 40k to 5e setting. Thought "beastmen" were a chaos only thing. Never heard of these until today. Thanks. My players will love this information.
IIRC Beastmen were in auxilia regiments in the Great Crusade. Just, uh, well they kinda went with Horus for that... Felinids however remained loyal it seems, and seem to have been pure genetic engineering, like the folks on Fenris did.
@@brettwood1351yeah it's generally considered that the reason for their genetic purity is because they were made sometime in the dark age of technology. Heck there probably were a ton more like the felinids but they went extinct for one reason or another.
there are actually full regiments of beast men (the ones most people think of /goat head people but they can vary as long as they're stable) however theyre generally kept to their own regiments, they're still canon in 40k and there's a "sanctioned" beastman bounty hunter operating on necromunda (got halfhorn). Obviously they're often viewed with suspicion due to things like horns and stuff being seen as chaos taint and thus many WILL gravitate towards chaos.
Mixing the brilliant story and great commentary that you're so good at with background art that ranged from hilarious to nightmare fuel (Namely the actual cat with a human hairstyle and beard at 15:00... egads), you really kept me on my toes with this one, pal 👏🤣
@@Baldermort Oh I'm not complaining! It just added to the experience! 😂 And in a way, it's kinda perfect. 40k has a tendency to take itself far too seriously far too often, whilst at the same time being a setting that has literal cat people in it. What other way can you picture that other than embracing the absurdity of it?
Another great video by our favorite brother! Also congratulations and amazing job with your VA work for The Awakening. Lot of love for your role in the comments.
@@Baldermort They shouldnt be canon tbh- they should be purged- prosecuted against like any mutant, alien or heretic would- why dont they count as mutants? their DNA is still mutated, its not pure human.
@@BattleBrotherCasten Because they are considered abhumans like Ogryns and ratlings, humans with genetics that have been altered for one reason or another but are close enough to that of baseline humans to be considered sufficiently human for the purposes of not being purged. As far as being mutants, actual mutations are entirely unpredictable and completely random, especially if they are caused by Chaos. With abhumans, their genome is stable, whereas mutants are the result of genetic instability. If Ogryns breed, you're going to get an Ogryn. If ratlings breed, you'll get a ratling. With mutants, whatever pops out of the womb is gonna have some characteristic, be it outwardly physical or only noticeable in the mutant's genetic code, that is completely impossible for the race the parents are from, such as claws when the species of the parents don't have claws, or extra limbs or even a second head. Long story short, abhumans aren't mutants, and while they aren't purged on sight like mutants are, they are considered almost universally to be an underclass of Imperial citizen and not treated with the same level of dignity and respect that baseline humans are, which is definitely saying something with how little respect and dignity individual humans are treated in the Imperium. Hope this helps.
@@BattleBrotherCasten Remember they we rediscovered during the Great Crusade so it was most likely the Emperor's decision to let them live. You don't have to like the choice but by the throne you will respect it, and speak no more of this heresy.

You should remake videos on the Ratlings and Ogryns, and maybe a few smaller videos on some of the more specialized groups within the Guard and their Auxilia, as I didn't fully expect this video to be as good as it was. @@stoops187 Agreed. Though I want to see some videos about the other abhumans now. Because I want to know what Longshank, Neandor, and Goliath abhumans are.
Im never surprised when I see the Imperium bend rules like this. For all of Humanity's supposed rigidity, their core principle is practicality. Towards the end of the Dark Age of Technology, they even launched a Craftworld from Earth. It isn't mentioned in the lore because it was the continent of Australia and even Orks and Tyranids know better than to approach it.
After years and years it finally clicked and I understood why they call them "AUXILIA" in the 40k setting (reference to non-citizen troops in the roman army). Turns out I'm pretty thick.
Thank you for this Warhammer 40,000 tribute. This your weekly Warhammer 40,000 tribute. Thought it might be an inquisitive Friday, but cats are fine too.
I mean, there isn't really. This is is more an example of the tolerance and acceptance that the Imperium could and should have had towards the Xenos that could have been peaceful but chose not to, sometimes aggravated by the attitudes of said Xenos. Whether or not a 'humans only' empire was a good idea that was clearly a secondary goal to crushing chaos and a few other galactic threats but in pursuing both goals they've substantially compromised their ability to succeed in the primary one.
Ok. I cant believe this is actually a thing. First I ever heard of these guys was yesterday when one of my reject squadmates mention them in Darktide, and now Baldermort is here fleshing them out.
The term "catboy" refers more to a quasi-human entity with only the ears and commonly a tail which should belong to a feline. No, these would be more aptly called furries.
I like to think Felinids, like Fenrisian wolves, are the descendants of gene-modding furries from the dark age of technology. Its honestly the best explanation I can think of and it just so happens to be the most amusing.
"What we have her and Meow, is a real furball of a fight! I want your troops in there and scrapping like the last tiger to the grock carcas before a blizzard hits!"
Back in like 2004 I was at a card shop and purchased 7 or 8 metal guardsmen that someone had traded in for magic cards. Idk when happened to em but there were 3 feline guardsmen. Idk who made them but they were all metal
A Felinid Guardsman and a Black Templar, chilling under a tree in a half destroyed courtyard after dealing with a Terminid assault as the Felinid puffs a cig. A Cadian Guardsman walks up to them: Sir Knight. May I have a word with you? Felinid: Kluas and I are having a break. Can you go find ano- Cadian: I'm not speaking to you, abomination! I'm speaking to the Black Templar Sargeant. The Felinid and Black Templar turns to him. _A few minutes later_ A commander was checking up some intel when a head of a genestealer flop on top of his table. Unfazed, he looks up to see the Felinid and Black Templar, both covered in blood and gore as the commander sigh: The usual? Felinid: The usual, sir.
In the grim darkness of the far future, there is only furries. Also, the shot at 23:10 of the felinid saying, “Fur the Empaw’ror” made me say aloud, “Oh my god, that’s adorable!”. Never thought I’d ever say that about anything in 40k. 😆
Hey there my favorite story telling servitor friend. Just here to both enjoy another adventure and also to remind you of the possibility of an upcoming Salamander video. You asked me to bring it up again on your last entry, and I have been biting at the bit all week.
I tend to imagine the Felinids bearing a resemblence to a being a cross between a human and an Eldar, with feline eyes, pointed ears and a greater athletic grace than a typical human.
@arionofotherworld I personally lean towards the main hero characters' designs in the Thundercats reboot (the good one, NOT Roar) with/without tails for ease of miniature customization.
If all dogs go to heaven, where do cats go? Purrrgatory. What do you call it when cats rebel? Mew-tiny. A cat owner invited their neighbor over for dinner and introduced their four cats. "That's Alogue, Aract, Erpillar, and Astrophe," they announced. The neighbor was surprised and asked, "Where on Earth did you get those names?" Oh, those are their last names, the owner said. Their first names are Cat.
Hello Baldy, it’s been a while since commented on a video, both this channel and myth channel, both of which I adore. Today’s been a hard day, as my grandfather died at the age of 95. Thank you for this video, the silliness and adoration in this video, helped me get through today.
It honestly would be quite interesting if they not only brought felinids and other abhumans to a more mainstream position but would honestly be really interesting if they did something like making an experimental astartes chapter of them to see if their already unique genetics could potentially make them even more effective then a normal astartes. Could even do something like they’re not equal to humans normally those few that survive becoming an astartes do so because they have been forgiven by the emperor for their difference.
I’ve always wanted to make a Korne tainted Felinids guardsmen unit. Probably it’ll be a tank regiment with a ton of gore on the tanks, and a tank commander holding the corpse of a heretic trooper neck in its mouth while pointing its plasma pistol towards the enemy.
It never ceases to amaze me that the strategic genius of Robute never contradicts the profit desires of GW. hehe The argument is that the Big E blended animal genetics into his Primarchs...so...Ab humans get a pass based on this practical blessing by the God Emperor. Argue that Red Scorpions!

Finally some comprehensive info about these guys without the memes :D
Sadly he seems to be drawing on them for the Images
No matter how grimdark the future of mankind may be, least we know there will be catgirls down the line.
They also make fine body guards and companions. 😁 Every commissar should have a Felinid
Catgirls are the dream of mankind, way more than being godlike psykers.
@@Gibson7Clansthe Footlong retractable claws are rather useful, yes.
🤢
@@Peter_Turbo4 commissars can find many uses for those.
I find it hillarious how Ratlings and Ogren are openly despised by most commissars for no reason. But just a lil exposure to these felanids makes the commissar gradually like them like he’s a rat infected with super toxoplasmosis
That would explain the semi-quarantine on the planet
ratlings are cowards and thieves.
A good Comissair takes the time to actually learn what motivates them, and is one that has a much more patient and goal oriented approach, that finds the best guardsman a comissair could ask for in them.
it's absolute heresy. the commisariat slaughters good soldiers and legends in the making, but spares the damn furries

Had to be done brother Rabbit. It was Mrs B’s idea as I passed deadline on my big video. ;)
Who says that wasn't "Carlos McConnell", their home planet?
sheer brilliance
OH YES!!! 🙀
I clicked on this faster than a Black Templar would purge the abhuman.
Falsh Gitz fan, aye?
"Avenge me, Brotheeeeeer !"
That's fast.
Black Templars do not purge faithful followers of the God Emperor.
If you however think yourself of a different belief...well good luck. 👍
Black Templars definitely wouldn't kill abhumans but they surely don't like em no?
Fun fact: khorne is also technicaly a furry since his description says that he has the face of a snarling demonic hound.
@@mattiaslime8926 explains his obsession with bones
But why does Khorne love ponies? 😆
Be vigilant brother.
Hydra Dominatus

Wow I was expecting something like this to be an april fools story. Thanks for the video
But… they’re in the canon. Only the thumbnail was tongue in cheek. This is a serious video.
@@Baldermort They shouldnt be canon tbh- they should be purged- prosecuted against like any mutant, alien or heretic would- why dont they count as mutants? their DNA is still mutated, its not pure human.
@@Baldermort well done video sir

Agreed.
It isn't mentioned in the lore because it was the continent of Australia and even Orks and Tyranids know better than to approach it.
meow see here, they might not be human but they're loyal. don't go writing them off meow.
Emperor sanctioned catgirls…
And people say there is no hope in 40k
I mean, there isn't really. This is is more an example of the tolerance and acceptance that the Imperium could and should have had towards the Xenos that could have been peaceful but chose not to, sometimes aggravated by the attitudes of said Xenos. Whether or not a 'humans only' empire was a good idea that was clearly a secondary goal to crushing chaos and a few other galactic threats but in pursuing both goals they've substantially compromised their ability to succeed in the primary one.
Cheers Balders. I love the fact that cat girls are canon in 40K.
Happy Felanid Friday, everyone!
GW needs to do more with the abhumans, i would love to see more of them. At least official art, so i can wrap my head around them easier.
