Amazing experience flying my DJI FPV converted AVIOS SPITFIRE for the first time. A later video will show the install...which is very simple. Keeping James' Spitfire close did prove challenging. I had to fully concentrate on the flying so did not get much of a chance to play with the sliders which controlled the gimbal holding the camera. Head tracking is the solution to that and I hope to have that working soon!

I have yet to get into this fpv stuff -reason being, when I fly my model warbirds around I want to actually see my models in the air! That's the fun and beauty of it for me. You've solved that problem, you need a friend with a spitfire to chase so you have the best of both worlds! FPV and watching a spitfire gracefully move through the air at the same time! Great video!
If you place the camera on the tail your watching the burd!!

Really like the way the prop looks in dji system. Way better than with analog. I could never really get into analog fpv as just too crappy a view but now I've got the v2 googles on order and hopefully will be in the air with it soon. Great video.

Amazing to see how far RC flying has come with foam planes, lipo batteries, brushless motors and fpv. Its easy to forget the awful early RC spitfires and the compromises that went with them. If you havent got two grand for a ride in a full size spitfire this is the closest you can get. Seriously impressed with the flying too.

Had to sign in to like this video, Wow !, just ordered a pair of DJI goggles v2 and am looking into quad v plane for my first experience of outdoors digital fpv, having just had a few goes on an indoor anologue fpv quad. But wow that looks amazingly realistic, only thing missing i think is some authenic engine sounds, that lovely Merlin. I would consider an audio speaker engine sound module for the plane to complete it, and to copy that awesome Merlin sound. But very inspirational, and I would love to do that myself. Quality video.

Good job. I am a full scale pilot as well and have done a considerable amount of tight formation flying. It is 20 times easier full scale then RC. You did a great job. In RC turn rate is much higher for a given bank angle because the speeds are so low. That makes RC formation flying very difficult. If you look at my RUclips channel you can see some FPV examples where I have used Oculus VR headsets and full head tracking.

That's is MAD ! That would be an epic add on to an existing system like DJI.
Ron, you do some incredible stuff. I fly formation/dogfights using HT FPV in RC warbirds and really like your AR K-14 HUD/reflector sight with tracers. If it can only be down sized for model plane use!

@@motionsic That is awesome! I have no idea how you did the reflecting gunsight but I am guessing it is an LED light with an overlay. Yeah, it just needs to calculate lead with with turn-rate...and of course tracers! Then how to register hits...hmmm.. I have been thinking about that for full scale too. It needs to be simple (no lasers or specialized equipment). Some AI operation in the app that will track the plane ahead and know it it has been hit. I am working on an aviation app that allows you to shoot down ADSB traffic with missiles. Its hard enough for full scale, RC well... I'll keep thinking....

Do U Have to really have to try to Stay on top ,I honestly could have PTSD if it got any more realistic,2classic war birds,one hot on his 6, I believe u would have taken the other bird out of the sky with ease! U Got My Double 👍👍,U got my mind thinking of the possibilitys and how much can the DJI FPV take and stay perfect? Couple of Turbines Full out pull the Type of G's made in RC Rockstar Directing Hanging it out balanceing on the edge of the envelope! Great Work, I could go on but Keep up Great Stuff

Was used for something aviation related many years ago apparently but not an RAF base. Maybe I'll get that privilege in the future.

Awesome! , not long you can mount some full auto BB guns and other stuff down , maybe even have competitions, Hey , what is range of these , I Skydive for a living and weather holds have us anticipating cloud clearances both horizontal and vertically , I may get into this just for observation on weather hokes that may allow more loads throughout the day
Do you think the very wide angle of the camera lens (typical for quad use) is actually too wide in this case? You end up having to fly really close to the other plane to get a good picture of it.
