  • It’s been 8 long years since the last SAARC summit was held and there is no certainty, when it will happen next. At the heart of this conflict is the Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi. When he became the PM for the first time in 2014, he was very vocal about his interest in SAARC and how he wanted to transform it. But things have changed a lot in last 8 years and it seems SAARC is headed to an unavoidable demise.

Not only modi but Indian leaders had high hopes for saarc. The Vision is clear integrate South Asia and make it like ASEAN and EU so it have better negotiations with rest of the world.
It was idea of former PM Indira Gandhi after Ussr invaded Afghanistan. India and Russia are friends but India don't like that Russia expand in South Asia thus saarc born and if India has suggested that, then Pakistan gonna reject it. So, India done through Nepal.
But India being major power and not Allied with any block means everyone want to check its influence and they all done through Pakistan.
Now, if we consider the economic situation of Pakistan it would have defaulted long ago but just to poke India they all give huge Aid to support it in exchange of harassing India.
When modi came he tried his best to stabilize it but failed due to both US and China don't like that.
Saarc was fiasco now India tried luck with BIMSTEC but China strikes again and Myanmar cough happens leading to sanctions. This ruins Indian's plans to connect India, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Laos, Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore via road. And chinese debt bankrupt Srilanka. Although due to maritime border not everything got ruined and still hopes remains.
Now India again tries to test his luck on Arab countries with help of UAE and US. But then Biden came to power and ruins Arab-US relations (bit tricky to think why).
Still good news is India-Bangladesh are connecting each other in rapid pace followed by Nepal. Hope others get prosperity too.

First of all, idk if u agree or not India doesn't wants it's dominance over SAARC ..Doesn't need to. We demands equality and peace among nations ..When we say we have relation of brotherhood with countries , we mean of equal brother not big -small brother (said by India many times)
Second , Having connectivity among SAARC nation meant more trade ,which not only helps India ,it helps other countries more
third , Adding China doesn't means India losing power , it means sharing power with a enemy ..
fourth , what is happening in Srilanka and Pakistan is evident
fifth , SAARC can never be bad of India even in long run ..That's why BIMSTEC is there , also having major booming economy such as Thailand and Myanmar is more beneficial for everyone

Every Part of this Video is debatable.
Modi does not want to destroy Saarc. No PM in the right mind would want to destroy a regional grouping.
The major issue is India has always been perceived is a bad light. All our neighbors feel like we are acting like a ''big brother'' trying to bully and assert our dominance in South Asia. Even our development effort have been scrutinized with a lot of suspicion. eg Pancheshwar Dam in mahakali river.
The Fatal blow to Saarc was when Nepal and the other members fearing India's emergence as a regional leader (big brother) decided to back Pakistan's motion of making China an Observer state and subsequently a member.
Moreover the event that followed with Pakistan facilitating Uri and Pulwama, abrogation of 370 and Salami slicing of the Chinese, there is no way we can all sit down at one place and talk, there is too much of bad blood.
The bottom line is, Saarc has become dis-functional by Regional Geopolitical situation and not by Mobi devising a scheme to render it so. Also all nations in that grouping except for us(India) have piled up huge amount of Chinese Debt, have opted for Belt and Road Initiative and its only a matter of time that one after the other they will have to deal with economic as well as a sovereignty crisis. I m sure you are seeing the state of Sri Lanka and Pakistan. There is So much of Trust deficit that nothing will be taken up in good spirit.
Although you have your creative freedom and can present with anything you want. I am just here to give a glimpse into our side of the story.

we can be independent only if we have sea port and dont need to be dependent on any on regarding trades.. we are land locked and this is the reason our politicians will always lean towards china or india.. leaning totally one sided is not good, we must have balanced relation with both.. but when oli comes in power he hails china, and when deuba comes in power he hails india.. we need politicians who keep neutral approach and show our importance to them.. which was possible only during the Monarchy time.. Only Monarchy can keep relations balanced.

Honorable prime minister narendra modi said nothing wrong. That speech was right after Pulwama attack where 50 and more armed police personnel were killed with a car bomb in kashmir. And frankly there are few countries with which bridges can't be built in lieu of border. Countries like China and Pakistan.
But yeah. Few cuts here and there , you can make anyone look bad.

    Never forget what they do
Don't think they are ally .

In this world of connectivity, where the economy of a country is greatly linked with other countries. That's simply not possible. Tackling its diplomacy properly is the way to go. But, be sure that the current political leaders just adopt polices whichever benefit them, than the country. So, the future doesn't look too bright.

so i guess modi's ambition with SAARC was to use it as a tool to develop indian hegemony over the south asian region, but due to tensions with Pakistan concerning them wanting China to join SAARC and also terrorism basically meant India was no longer interested in SAARC leading to the demise of this institution? It's an interesting video, I am not Nepali so it is interesting to have a different perspective on these things. I wonder if it will ever be possible to develop an EU-type organization between the South Asian countries without it imploding due to political tensions...

  • @pratik798
    @pratik798 Год назад

Due to regional disturbances SAARC is inactive at the moment.
We must know and understand the geopolitical situation of its member countries - India, Pakistan and China.
However, Nepal as an economy must realise that it's under acute recession.
Basic economic reformation is required in the country and its ministers try to look forward for economic growth and prosperity.
