- Hello! My name is Jose and I am a Guatemalan living in Poland. I have lived here for 3 years. I have lived in Lublin, Krosno and now in Krakow, and this is a list of 10 things that have impacted me.

Sunday is not the most important day for shopping in Poland this is the most important day for the family.
Actually, Poland drink a bit less alcohol than EU average. It might be strange, but thats what statistics says.
We drink a lot occasionally, like on weddings, parties, someones birthday, but thats it.
Interesting statistics. In the video, I mention what I have experienced at weddings and at some parties. :)

I have been to Poznań and I really liked the city. It was a quick visit because I was there just 2 days and I'd like to go back. I remember the goat in the market square :)
If theres many dates , when u can celebrate " Imieniny" , you should pick first date after your birthday. Thats also a tradition .If the name day coincides with other holidays, people celebrate it at a different time of year. Im pretty sure it should be celebrated once a year.

If you really need to buy something on a Sunday there are convenience stores "Żabka" and a lot gas stations you can go to. I eat whatever I want on Fridays but I know a lot of people who still eat just fish or vegan dishes but it's more like a tradition/habit and not for religious reasons anymore so it really depends. That is true! I've bought there on Sundays, frankly quite often, but the prices are not the best. I thought it was because of religious reasons, thanks for the insight. I lived in Lublin for a year and a half. Thanks a lot for watching. :)

Sorry ,ale wkurzają mnie takie osoby jak ty konfabulujace na temat Polski ,jej tradycji czy zwyczajów i przerabiające je na swoją modłę i tylko dlatego ten mój wpis .Normalnie nie wciskam sie nikomu z komentarzami
@@bogumilak1391 tak to nawyk u wielu ludzi których znam. Nasza babcia gotowała rybę w piątek bo była katoliczką ale nikt oprocz niej w rodzinie nie jest katolikiem. Jemy rybę w piątek bo taki mamy dzięki niej nawyk. Wyobraz sobie ograniczony umysłowo człowieku ile jest różnych ludzi na świecie z różnymi nawykami i powodami dla których robią różne rzeczy. Ja tu wyjaśniam swój. Nie wypowiadam się za całą Polskę bo pisze "it really depends" czyli naprawdę zależy od osoby. Jest bardzo dużo osób robiących to powodu religii i też jest bardzo dużo osób które są takie jak ja i jedzą z przyzwyczajenia bo w domu tak narzucono. Nigdzie nie pisze w moim komentarzu że tak robi cała Polska. Nie wprowadzam nikogo w błąd bo mówię jak jest w wielu domach, w których bywam. Proszę się tak nie denerwować. Świat się nie skończy jak się wypowiem za siebie do czego mam pełne prawo. Zawsze można napisać swój oddzielny komentarz. Pamiętaj żeby pisać w swoim imieniu✌️
LOL. To me Guatemalan was the country I fall in love visiting Latin and south America. Lake Atitlan with Panajachel and Antigua was absolutely beautiful. For me chicken soup with avocado was weird, but delicious and armed guards with assault rifle in front of the stores, quite disturbing. Chicken bus ride I never forget, superb experience and hikes to volcanoes. I love your country. Planning to go back next year. Regards.
Wow! Glad to know you visited and fell in love with my country. Lake Atitlan is probably my favourite place. Yesss, the avocado in the soups, I miss that. But did you try the tortillas? I know about the guards, it is just complitely normal for us and tbh I felt more comfortable in a place where I know there are guards. hhaha the chicken buses are sometimes waaay to craze but I'm glad you enjoyed your experience. Have you visited Tikal? Semuc Champey? If you havent you will definitely love these places.
@@joseexplores I have not visit Tikal or Semuc Champey, because it was way to far from Lake Atitlan or Antigua. I agree with you, Lake Atitlan is my favorite spot. Spring all year long and the COFFEE. And did I mention the COFFEE. I love coffee so for me was a haven. I had my favored spot in San Marcos. I'm planning to stay next time six months by the lake. I want to visit Tikal but without a car that is a long journey. I think it's lot faster from Belize ;-).

Ciekawe, że w Guatemali pomimo tej samej religii można jeść normalnie mięso w piątki. Różnice wywodzące się z kultury to bardzo interesująca rzecz jaka odróżnia społeczeństwo. Dzięki za ten filmik! ☺️☺️

On Fridays generally we don’t eat meat that’s include chicken that includes beef that includes pork or any other meat, not only red meat😅
W Polsce wcale nie ma dużego spożycia alkoholu. Najwięcej pije się w Estonii.
Rozumiem, że generalnie tak nie jest, ale na weselach, na których byłam, ludzie dużo pili :)

I just read that Popeye's fast food joint is coming to Poland and in 2023 they will have one in Warsaw, Szczecin and Wroclaw.
Popeyes is something like KFC for those that never ate there. And their Cajun fries are definitely off the hook 🥳

Not only red meat - on Friday in Poland don`t eat any meat apart from fish

We have short days during winter, and that's why it's a crazy time in summer, because the day gets very long :D

As for drinking alcohol, for about 2 years I haven't drunk a drop, because I realized I don't like hangovers. But about 15-20 years ago, a half liter of clean vodka for one head (and my head is not very strong) during one party was normal. More vodka, well probably happened, but than my brain turnes off 😂
hahahah you are right, I have seen some of my friends do the 0.5l. I also heard if you drink it with water the hangover is less strong but I don't really know. :)
@@joseexplores Clean water better than drinks with CO2, also while drinking alcohol. The hangover is softer and if mixed with a good food it can be almost no hangover. A lot of good food causes, you can drink more vodka, but the alcohol stays longer in your organism. Vodka for empty stomach is a bad idea. In general alcohol is a poison that degenerates proteins in organism and causes dehydration. A bit of alcohol was healthy in past times when it was difficult to get clean water or food without dangerous bacteria. Alcohol kills these dangerous microbes. But nowadays I use to drink strong alcohols only after eating some street food when I am not sure if it's prepared in hygienic conditions or I am in some exotic country with different bacterial flora. Then a bit of strong alcohol helps to avoid unpleasant surprises.
Moim osobistym rekordem (do którego nigdy później nie zbliżyłem się nawet w połowie), kiedy byłem młody (zaledwie 18 lat) i trenowałem imprezowanie co tydzień 😀 było wypicie około 2,5 litrów czystej wódki od późnego popołudnia do rana następnego dnia. Plus bodajże ze 4 piw. I nie padłem nieprzytomny, tańczyłem, chodziłem, rozmawiałem. Nie zwiedziłem szpitala. Ale miałem wtedy naprawdę niesamowicie mocną głowę, lepszą od rówieśników i końskie zdrowie. Niewiarygodne ale możliwe. Trzeźwienie zajęło mi że 2 dni. Końcówka letnich wakacji, jezioro i piękne dziewczyny - może dlatego 😅
@@janinmojam9883 ja w wieku 18 lat, po takiej ilości może i bym tańczył i śpiewał, ale nic bym nie pamiętał z tego 😂
Co do imienin obchodzi sie je również w Grecji. Generalnie obchodzi sie wtedy w najbliższym terminie po urodzinach. Narzekasz na krótki zimowy dzień, ale nie zapominaj ,że latem ciemno robi się o 22.30 a jasno o 3 nad ranem.

W wielu krajach Europy sklepy wielkopowierzchniowe są zamknięte w niedzielę.
Nie wiedziałem o tym. W Gwatemali i Meksyku na pewno są otwarte :)

No. Sumdays is meant for family.
In fact, on Fridays many people, including me, don't eat meat at all, not only red meat. We eat fishes, pancakes, potato pankaces, vegetarian dishes, etc.
When it comes to cleaning on Saturdays, I haven't heard about that, but I usually clean on Saturdays 'cause I'm too tired to clean when I come back from work😅
Most people I know don't eat meat on Fridays. And in Guatemala Fridays are sometimes a day to meet with the friends and eat some grilled steak haha maybe about cleaning on Saturdays is because it is more convenient on that day :)
Taki mały hint koledze dam. Fish już jest liczbą liczbą pojedynczą jak i mnogą, to samo z sheep. Nie mówimy fishes czy sheeps. Też popełniałem ten błąd. Dishes z kolei jest poprawnie :D

Od 2018 nie są. Tylko kilka małych sklepów, w których wszystko jest znacznie droższe. :)
Żle przetłumaczyłeś bo w Święta je się mięso , ale w Wigilia dzień przed Świętami jest dniem postnym i są potrawy bezmięsne , i teraz wiesz dlaczego zdejmuje się buty jak wchodzisz do domu i chodzi się w skarpetach lub kapciach bo sprząta się w sobotę , a jak byś chodził w butach to sprzątanie by się robiło co dzień lub co drugi dzień .

A lot of what you say depends on the region or family traditions and religious traditions. Guests never take their shoes off in my house.. This is the influence of Eastern culture and plebeian culture. Contemporary Poles are mostly descendants of peasants, hence these habits.
I’ve only heard about the tradition of not taking off the shoes in Poland but never experienced that myself.
In my family and all people I know guests take off their shoes. I’m from Krakow BTW
@@natalias50 Nie chcę się rozpisywać. W Krakowie i Poznaniu jest stare mieszczaństwo i w takich domach nikt ci nie będzie proponował zdejmowania butów. O tym też nie będzie mowy w domach szlacheckich nie licząc szlachty zagrodowej gdzie obyczaj zdejmowania butów może być obecny. Nie będę pisał o o tym myślę, bo nie raz byłem za to hejtowany. Tylko jedno stwierdzenie, dla mnie jest to obrzydliwe i tyle ale kto co lubi.
I imagine it is like that. What I said is based on my experience in Lublin, Podkarpackie and Krakow. Of course I haven't visited everyone but where I have been, it has been like that :)

The celebrating the name day depends of the region of Poland ,me and my family and our friends don't celebrate the name day ,only the birthday

I am living in Sydney Australia and shops are open 9.30 to 17 00 Monday to Friday only Thursday is long shopping when everything is open to 21 00 evening Saturday Sunday all is open 10 am to 16 00 pm only 😊 all the best
Hola! I have been to Katowice once and I found the city was more modern than what I expected. Oh wow. It means you could go shopping any day you wanted, just like in Guatemala. (A couple of weeks ago I wanted to go to the bank on a Saturday and I realized they are not open, also shocking for me, as in Guatemala they are even on Sundays at the shopping centre). Pozdrawiam :)

Wiesz Polacy przez 50 lat walczyli w komunizmie aby mieć wolną niedzielę. Zobacz sobie Niemcy mają zapisane w swojej konstytucji że niedziela jest dniem wolnym. Podobnie jest w innych państwach, oczywiście nie wszystkich.

1. Shops will be open on Sudays very soon because we got rid of the idiots who rules last 8 years.
2. Not true. House should be clean 24/7 so we tidy up on the daily basis. On Saturdays we do DIY, wash the cars, and make bolder things around the house.
3. True and not true. Some people don't, some do eat meat on Fidays. But no Polish person eat meat on Christmas Eve.
4. Name day is easy: nobody knows your DOB but everybody knows your name. Another day to get drunk;)
5. Who cares... In the summer we have 20 hours of sunshine instead :)
6. It depends... Just seing soft carpets on the floor you should change your muddy shoes for slippers. But if there are hardboard floor do not be so polished;)
7. TRUE. Whether you are family or a random guest, our tradition is to share food. I may not like you, but I'll give you a treat. It's crazy but it works ;)
8. I've been a University student for 13 years and never got degree. But it was long time ago when students was a WASP's in Poland ;) Now they a flies...
9. Just go to the point number 2. It doesn't matter who came to us and for what purpose. The apartment must always be cleaned the next day. Just watch "Skarb", one of the first Polish movie after the IIWW. You'll get this idea;)
10. Not true. You probably found yourself in a pathological environment. Not all Poles drink alcohol every day.

A lot of people I know don't. In fact I would say most people I know don't do it, but as I mentioned on the video, I'm sure it's not everyone :)
Friday for Christians is a day of abstinence from eating meat dishes, however, we call it a day of fasting out of habit.Christians do not eat meat on Friday to commemorate the death of Jesus Christ on the cross on Good Friday. Abstinence from meat expresses repentance and sorrow for the sins for which Christ innocently suffered.
It also allows you to pay attention not only to the needs of the body , but also the soul . This is not just a Polish custom.I have lived in Austria for more than 30 years and Friday is the same day of abstinence from meat dishes as in Poland . Even in Gasthaus and restaurants on this day you will find less meat dishes, and more meatless and fish dishes. I think it is a very European custom, but how a nation continues to observe this custom is another matter. Greetings from Vienna !
Great information! Guatemala is also a very christian-catholic country but in my experience fasting is common during lent. I'm sure it is a custom that is still preserved in many places around the world. Best regards, :)

Nie rozumiem co Cię tak dziwi.Pamietaj abyś dzień święty świecił.Chyba słyszałeś o tym przykazaniu.O poście w piątki też nie słyszałeś? Dla ludzi ,którzy są katolikami to jest normalne .Albo się wierzy albo nie.Polska jest w większości katolicka .Odpoczywaj sobie człowieku w niedziele,no i daj innym odpocząć.Po Bogu naprawdę nie trzeba poprawiać.Powodzenia i ucz się polskiego.Przyjemnie byłoby posłuchać Ciebie po polsku.
Ciekawy. Gwatemala to też bardzo katolicki kraj, a jednak takie tradycje nie istnieją, dlatego dziwi mnie, że je tutaj znalazłem.

@@joseexplores Świętowanie niedzieli to nie jest kwestia tradycji a raczej przykazania Bożego.Bog wie lepiej co dobre dla człowieka.Bez zakupów w niedzielę naprawdę można żyć,to tylko kwestia organizacji.Filmik po polsku chętnie obejrzę.Pozdrawiam.
It sucks that there's an obsession with cleaning in Poland. Cleanliness is considered to be a part of every person's culture. If there's a mess, it's embarassing to the Polish.

In short Bologna proces/system (Not only Europe or EU) : bachelor degree (or engeneer) 2-4 years, master degree 1-2 years. Max time is (240+120 ECTS)/60 = 6 years, Min time is (180+60)/60 = 4 years (don't know any university in Poland with such short path to Master Degree)

Yes, you are right, it is the whole system in the EU. In poland I don't know anyone who has got the master degree in 4 years. Most people I know have got it in 5 years. In Guatemala, sadly, is completely different.
