There's a line in that song that says "Live your life it's yours anyways, don't try too hard it's Ok to Lose"
- They are telling the Youth of their generation that Losing means you're adjusting and growing not a deadend, they are saying that just party and be happy because goals cannot be achieve by just a one snap as Namjoon say "You can still be happy during the process of achieving something".
Not Today is the one of the MVs that got me into the fandom. I started back in late 2016. Now, I'm going to be ARMY for 6 years already.

For BTS songs the lyrics are very important. I’d suggest you take a deeper dive into the lyrics for the BTS song reactions . Their songs are always meaningful, the lyrics are always deeper than it seems . So you have to check the separate lyric videos and explanation videos too
BTS back then has the hunger to prove themselves. As you said they were underdogs and a nugu group from a small company so you can see the aggresiveness and intensity to their approach in their music.

There are often several versions of the Official" music video.
The "Ioniq: I'm On It" is a promotional song for Hyundai. But you barely notice the car because the mv & song are so good; similar style as "Film Out"
"Come Back Home" was released on July 4, 2017 as remake of Seo Taiji’s song "Come Back Home" for Seo Taiji 25th Anniversary Remake Project.
“With Seoul” is a BTS song and film highlighting Seoul as a vacation spot. The original also shows them recording it. They have also done 3 other versions, including a “short” on 2020-09-11; a beautiful drone visual of Seoul (The Four Seasons of Seoul” on 2019-12-30, & an amazing drone visual mv on 2021-01-09.
My personal favorite "other version" video is "DANGER (Mo-Blue-Mix) , featuring THANH". Thanh is an Australian-Vietnamese singer. This song has a R&B vibe with some great lyrics added by Thanh.
There are loads of their other songs including some of my favorites: “Dionysus”, “Ma City”, “Truth Untold”, ”Outro: Tear”, “House of Cards”, “Lost”, “Dimple”, “Butterfly”, etc. and their solo, rapline, vocal line, short films, comeback trailers, etc. not included.

bts really started gaining spotlight in the international industry with dope and fire, obviously since 2013 they actually made appearances on international charts. people used to call bts a flop, but in my opinion after seeing everything bts went through, i realized they were more manipulated than flops. fire was like bts giving a warning: “we are not going to leave here, we are going to dominate the whole world”. but it is also an incentive for young people to express themselves and not let the past generation bring them down. everyone likes this song, even those who don't like or know bts like and know this song.
and also, i recommend you to watch The Rise Of Bangtan. is a documentary series that you don't just learn about bts, but about kpop, their journey in an industry manipulated by big3, how and why they stood out and achieved greater recognition outside korea than other korean artists. in addition to showing how they faced many barriers in the american industry.
Only an old guy would recognize this--they recreated the iconic cover fire handshake photo from Pink Floyd's "Wish You Were Here" album at the beginning of the video.
How can you say they’re not still ferocious? Their last full planned album in 2020, when they were already at the top, included ON and black swan! .. they’re STILL BEASTS. And they still give EVERYTHING and then SOME.

The Forever Young era caught my attention when I first invested time into anything K-pop. I was straight out of high school at the time and had way too much energy on my hands. Though I didn’t really become a huge fan after the video, I’d constantly return to BTS to see how they were doing. (Now, I’m fully invested in whatever the hell they’re doing in terms of their well earned success.) Still, Fire will always be the literal height of what “youthful energy” sounds like to me.
It’s not that BTS is not that hungry or aggressive anymore. It just that pandemic happened.
Their Map of the Soul album series were sidetrack because of the pandemic. They released Dynamite, Butter and Permission to Dance to have good vibes during this pandemic.
Like the others commented here, you should read the lyrics to have a deeper meaning of their songs. Their 3 English songs were not supposed to happen. And the BE album was created during the pandemic.

I mean, BTS were already pretty big when this song came out, but I get what you're trying to say. They were definitely more aggressive in some of their songs in a way that they always felt they had something to prove as the underdogs of K-pop and how much hate they constantly got. I think now they're more comfortable in their own in a way that they know they've sort of made it I guess? They're still always going to say they'll work hard and they will but now I feel like the pressure to make it big is off. I'm so happy and proud for them
