- Learn how to grow nectarines from seeds. Buy nectarines from a grocery store and use their pits to grow nectarine plants at home, as I have grown in Sydney, Australia. It takes 2 to 4 years for a nectarine tree to bear fruit from seed. To grow a nectarine tree from seed, you first crack open the pits and take out the seeds and then germinate the nectarine seeds. You may also grow nectarine from seeds by directly sowing the seeds in soil but the seeds may not germinate as they require proper stratification before sprouting. The method shown here ensures 100% success for growing nectarine tree from seeds.

I appreciate the quick and concise information without a lot of unnecessary yakity yak. 👍🏼
Thanks for your views.
Nectarines are my favorite fruit. I am expecting my first child this year. When I accidentally revealed the seeds in a pit of the fruit this morning, I decided to try to germinate the seed in her honor. Thank you for the clear and to the point video.
Congrats and good luck.
I hope your child is doing well and healthy! Did you manage to have any success with the plant?
What a lovely idea, I hope you managed to grow a plant.
I saw this tip on a video for germinating cherry seeds, sprinkle a little cinnamon powder on and around the seed when you moisten it. Cinnamon has anti-mould properties.
@@darnstewart Yes, cinnamon should help. Thanks for this tip.
thank you so much for this video and all your advice in the comments! just started the process and can’t wait to see my seed start to sprout
Good luck.
Nice music lol. Thanks for the video!!!

@@GardenTricks After you put the seeds on the paper towel what are you spraying them with? Thank you for the clear video.
@@nancytyler8900 Spray water to dampen the paper.
@@GardenTricks How ??did you did
to make a nectarine tree to
produce fruit at that size and most importantly in a pot 🤔 🤔🤔
@@rubenmv91 Yes, it was grown from a seed and produced fruits in less than 2 years. The plant is still in a pot. I made 3 such plants to presented to my friends.
I just picked wanted to thank you for the video! This was the best guide I could find to grow nectarines. It is very clear and informative. Using it and the article you made I was able to sprout 2 healthy nectarines!
You are welcome.
Thank you so much for your advice, will try it
Good luck.
Thanks, sir! I will def try that! I love nectarines!
Please do!
I’m am excited. I had success with your advice. I got four from six seeds germinate and I am ready to plant.
Good luck.
Thankyou. Informative and straight to the point 🌟

Shoot…I hope I could still use my Ed’s…I had it sitting for a week before I could get to them… I was just going to put it in soil… this info is helpful..thank you!
Good luck.
Helpful video! Thanks. 🤗

Thank u so much
You are welcome.
Thank you so much. I've had success with apricots this way. Next I am trying nectarines.
Thanks, congrats and good luck
Did it work?
Thanks you! :D
Welcome!
i will try this, it would be so nice to have a nectarine tree
Good luck, it will fruit in 2 years.
I have germinated this plant from this method, but after struggling two winters, the plant was not survived. Simultaneously, I directly sowed in the ground, and after the snow and winter, all of my 10 seeds were germinated, and since then, the seedlings have been growing very strongly, and growth is almost two feet tall. What is my experience, I noticed that the paper method is not always sustainable for most of the time.
Thanks for info. I thought, the paper method help in isolating bad seeds that will not sprout.
I wonder if your freezer temperature isn’t cold enough??
This is very clear, thank you! Can you also grow them in water for a while when it has sprouted (like avocados) before putting it in soil?
I don't think so.
If you add cinnamon to the wet paper towel on the seed the seed will germinate in a couple weeks
Thanks for this info. I have not tried it.
Thank you for the video. It worked. Now I have a small seedling tree. How do I properly care for the seeding tree.
Good to know that. Look here for its care

Just had an amazing nectarine and thought, how can i get some more of these? 🤔
try it. You will have good harvest in just 2 years.
Thank you for this information! How big are those containers that you have your nectarine plants/trees in?
About 50cm wide and similar height. The tree started to priduce fruits in a 30 cm pot, but of small size.
@@GardenTricks thank you so much! Can't wait to try this
@@missmaggie6214 Good luck.
How deep do you plant the seed after refrigerator ?? Everything ive looked up about that step i cant find. Was hoping to see it here as im planting it today
1 inch deep. Good luck.
Sprinkle some cinnamon on the seeds to prevent mold.
Thanks for additional info.
Using this method, will the resulting fruit be true to the original variety?
May be or may not be. I am having 3 plants grown like this, all producing super sweet large size fruits every year.
What is the stuff you have in your pots? It doesn't look like soil but rather wood shavings. Do I need to put something else in my pot besides the soil and the fertilizer you mentioned in your previous reply?
You need a well-draining soil. You can mix some sand in soil to make it free draining.
Can the seeds germinate while in the fridge, or should I keep them in the fridge for a while and then take them out to germinate?
Seeds may germinate in fridge in about 2 months, if not then put in soil.
what was in the bottle you sprayed on the plants
It was just water.
Hi there, I am growing 3 nectarine plants at the moment around 6 months old since germination, they are all a few inches high maybe triple the size and length of the one in your small plant pot towards the end. Please tell me how to take care of them to reach the large nectarine plant you show with the fruits, do I just keep watering, feeding with plant food/fertiliser, and repot when I think necessary? Autumn is fast approaching and I've noticed my nectarine plants haven't been growing as much, I just don't want them to die when winter hits. Please share any help you can, thank you 🙏
Add cow manure in the doil do that it grows well. Feed liquid fertilizer every 15 days in Spring to Summer. Transfer in a bigger pot when necessary. Put a thick layer of sugarcane mulch. Water only when top one inch soil gets dry. Keep in full sun. In winter, it will drop all the leaves. Keep the pot under cover if too low temperature.
@@GardenTricks Thank you so much for your advice! 🙏❤
Should I put the sugarcane mulch at the bottom of the pot, or mix with soil? And what do you suggest I cover the pots with in winter? Do I cover the entire plant? Thank you again, you're saving my plants!
@@Vinsomer Just put mulch on the soil do not mix in soil. Over time, it will decompose and merge in soil. You should cover only if you have snow in your area, otherwise just move the pot in garrage or covered area.
Is there a type of brand of soil you recommend?
@@antonioda3533 I use any general purpose potting mix and add cow manure to it.
What did you spray them with? Was that a regular paper towel?
Regular paper towel or you can use tissue papers. Spray with water.
Which way up do you plant them and do you start off in a small pit plant?
Plant the pit in a small pot filled with free draining soil. If you have already sprouted the seed in a paper towel, then plant the sprout downwards. If in,doubt. It is safe to plant pit horizontally.
Thankyou, both my pits have sprouted!
@@dorisstevens2770 Good to know that.
If the seed has already split open its pit and started growing out of its almond-like skin is that already germinating? Would it still be best to put in the fridge?
It happened with some of my seeds. Continue in the fridge to grow a strong sprout and then put in soil to grow it. The sprout will begin to emerge from the pointed end of the seed. The sprout may take from 1 to 3 months.
Hello there, it's me again! I know you mentioned in winter that the nectarine plants drop all their leaves, I take it that it's normal then? Will it be okay if it's just a stem with no leaves? My plants which are growing indoors are rapidly beginning to lose their leaves as we go into Autumn cold temperatures. Just wondering if I should be worried, I've closed the window they are next to and am just trying to keep them alive, the stem is green, upright, and strong, so I am hopeful 🍑
Don't panic. It is normal. In the next spring, the plant will grow new leaves and branches. Indoors, keep the plant away from heated air currents.
@@GardenTricks Thank you! I also noticed it was getting some spider mites, I ordered a spray to get rid of them hopefully. Do you have any method for pest control, or do you also recommend a bug killing spray? Thanks again ❤
@@Vinsomer I use a spray of neem oil to control spider mites and other insects. Mix 1 ml neem oil in 1 litre water and spray. Repeat after 1 week.
@@GardenTricks Hello again, I was wondering if I should worry about my nectarine plants as it's winter right now and some of them are looking a little brown and withered at the top. I'm afraid it will spread downwards! The stem still seems strong and upright, but the colour and appearance is concerning me. I water the plants with warm water only when soil seems dry, and only feed them once every 4-5 weeks now as they should be dormant and not need food/fertiliser much. I keep them on my closed window sill and give them 6 hours of LED light a day, in addition to natural sunlight. The room is relatively warm and there are no heat sources. I'm just wondering if I'm doing something wrong, or if I need to cut the brown tips off my plants or something. Your expertise would be appreciated 🙏
@@Vinsomer I will not worry. This is due to winter. The leaves will fall and new leaves will emerge ib Spring.
How do you get the pits so clean? Did you scrub them? I have nectarines I would like to grow but the pits have the nectarine all over them.
You have to wash it, it does not matter if it is not perfectly clean because you have to take out the seed.
Hi lm doing this for the first time, i just wanted to ask if i am supposed to water it out hile it is in the fridge?
No, unless the paper dries out which will not happen as it is enclosed in the polythene. Remember, you have to wet the paper enclosing the seeds before putting it in the polythene.
@@GardenTricks 🙏 thank you
@@ftbl.prodzz1 You are welcome
What is the spray you use? Does it matter warm or cold water?
I used water at room temperature. Warm water will also work.
What is he spraying on the paper towel before plastic wrapping?
Normal water spray to dampen the paper, so a high humidity is created in the bag needed for germination.
SUPER VIDEO
Thanks.
Do u need 2 plants to get fruit or will one alone manage to produce fruit
No, only one tree will produce fruits.
What are you spraying on the paper towel?
Water at room temperature.
Cinnamon on the paper towel helps to prevent fungus?
I have not tried, it may help.
I accidentally cut the seed in half while opening the pit, can I still use them? 😢
No, it will not germinate.
I followed your instructions and they have been wrapped in paper towel since Oct 1st and in my crisper in the fridge. 8 weeks later they are still looking the same as when i put them in there. No mould thankfully but no roots either. Shall i just put them into soil now and hope for the best or does it mean the seeds are no good for anything ?
Keep it for another 2 months. It depends on the quality of seed.
@@GardenTricks Thank you. By the time i saw your reply i had put them in a small pot with good quality soil. If they take they take. Question though, should i put the pot inside my house or outside under my veranda? I am in Summer here at the moment so would they need the sun and warmth or shade if they are going to take?. Thanks
@@mollychick Keep in verandah for a few weeks as the plant has been recently transplanted. If you have seaweed solution, thrn feed it once in 2 weeks. The plant needs full sun, but only morning Sun if it is too hot. Good luck.
@mollychick add cinnamon to the wet paper towel, this will speed up the germination
I actually just threw a bunch of pits in the soil after eating the nectarines. Never cracked them open or anything to get the seed inside. Nor did I put in the fridge. Not sure if my little pits will ever bear fruit but right now the plant growing from those pits looks exactly like the one at the end of your video. Do you think my little pits will actually ever produce some nectarines?
Yes, they should produce fruits in just 2 years. The seed inside pits germinated because the fruits were stored at a lower temperature before coming to store. Good luck.
@@GardenTricks oh thank you! I hope so!! They actually weren't from a store, though... they were from my neighbor's tree.
@@mikamamma Okay. Thanks for info
@@GardenTricks do I have to do anything in particular while the plant is growing to support it's growth in any way?
@@mikamamma Add cow manure in soil a.d feed a liquid fertilizer every 15 days during growth period. The plant will drop leaves in winter but new growth from spring.
why do we need to refrigerate seeds?
Some seeds need to break their dormancy before they can be germinated.
how many weeks put them in fridge ??
@@opreapetru404 About 1.5 months, then check every week for germination.
@@GardenTricks thank you
@@opreapetru404 Welcome.
do the seeds need to be soaked in water or can i just soak the paper towel and call it done?
Soak the seeds for one day in water.
Why are my seeds white
May be fungul problem. Wash the seeds and put them again in a new paper towel.
I also make videos but can't get views like yours...my videos are not the worst(that's what I think)....hahaha.. My video on peach has all the relevant steps in a precise way...still got nly 246 viewssssss....

Peaches, plum and nectarine buds all look similar.
I just took mine from the water, I'll be in two week hope it doesn't die😆
