This is great!!! Love seeing women/ girls get outdoors and do things that are physically challenging! It builds coordination, strength, self worth, confidence, and teamwork. Women/ girls that participate in sports/ physical activities tend to do better in school, feel better about themselves, seek higher education, less chance of abusive relationships, more confident about themselves and realize what they are capable of accomplishing!
This is SO COOL. I need to come and find you guys. I live in the UK, Devon and started skating now, with my pintail longboard for the first time at 25! I LOVE IT SO MUCH and the confidence and self belief it has opened within me is crazy. I feel like anything is possible on that board. It’s medication and flow and more than I every thought it could be 😍🙌💃❤️
My sister and I plan to practice inline skating at a skatepark and we do feel a bit uneasy going there. It's always filled of boys, some of them with cam... Not all of them have a mature mindset and they'd respond not in a good mannered way. I also don't appreciate the stares and being talked about or being filmed. Mind your own business, skate.
ignore them and show them that just becuase your girls doesnt mean you cant follow your dreams and passions. Keep doing what you love and dont let anyone talk you down! Im rooting for you and your sister!
For me it was the same. I’ve been doing ballet for almost 12 years and then I got into surfing and after skateboarding. it just gave me so much confidence and of course joy! Than you so much for empowering so many women!
This makes me want to move to Venice Beach just so that I can join this group! No, I don't know how to skateboard, but I have always wanted to learn. I just never felt comfortable even trying because it felt like a male dominate activity.
I grew up in SM and Venice was my stomping grounds 1970' and 80's skating and boogey boarding. I can totally relate to the intimidating atmosphere being male dominated. There is strength in numbers ladies and you are watching out for each other. Safety is paramount down there. Your passion to pass it down to the next generation is what it is all about. Blessings to you all:)
I'm not even sure why this popped up as a recommended video for me to watch (I haven't been watching any skateboarding videos or anything close. Glad it did pop up, though. Watching this made me happy!
Growing up on a skateboard, i think ive only met a couple dozen girls that rode skateboards and ive been to many skatepark in different cities. i just wish this would have happened in those days.
I already know people with justifien critcal opinions will be called haters. It's just how fubar the conversation on the whole subject is. I feel like we live in times where the most loud morons will get their way, despite what most of people or science/studies are saying. For the record I personally don't have anything against women skating or in any sports for that matter. I just don't see it as a issue or at least we have way bigger issues at the moment, even without the virus. I can come with only two professions I would prefer to be served by a man. The first is urologist, I just beleave men have naturally more experience in that field. I do beleave that most women feel same about gynecologists. The second one is fire fighters. This comes just down to physiology. If women can pass the same tests, then I don't care, but I rather not die on fire, just because the fire rescue person was not able to do their job, beeing of what ever gender. These kind of inequality issues should be solved with upbringing, edjucation and by giving every body equal chance. Not by lowering standards for some and forcing stupid genre quotas.
Maybe people are "mad" because it's a ridiculous strawman argument. Good skaters respect good skating. If you want to skate, just do it. There are no men out there ripping girls off of skateboards.
@@privateuser7 Good job not watching the video. It might not be true for you and your group, but the guys she was running into were overly aggressive and giving her unwanted attention when she just wanted to be left alone and skate. That is why she got this group going, so she would feel more comfortable skating in public areas where she has had a bad experience before. Literally the comment under this main one is from a girl skater who has shared he own experiences with guys being too pushy around her and making her feel uncomfortable when she just wants to go out and skate. So, just because its not _YOUR_ personal experience does not mean its not someone else's, and it does not make this a "straw man". Because nowhere in the video does she say "all men" or "all male skaters". She specifically says the ones she encountered where she likes to skate. Get.Outside.Your.Bubble.
This story is very moving, i wish more women get this chance to be encouraged to do what they love without any prejudice. Keep doing what you love, dont let anyone talk you out of following your passion and dreams!
Would love to see more women in the skateboarding community, but it's not too much into longboarding. We see it as transportation, wheels are good for filming, ect. Get some popsicles for these girls and start doing some kickflips!

You go girls but professional female skaters like Lacey Baker, Nora Vasconcellos and Laticia Bufoni to name a few do make you look kinda like a bunch of kooks! Anything that gets more women skating is a good thing.
This is NOT skateboarding :( This is just cruising.. I am a girl that can both longboard and skateboard. Guys usually don't make fun of girls for skating, they are actually impressed if a girl can reach or surpass their level. That's due to their low expectations but whatever. If they make fun of you it's because you're truly bad at it and that's the same for any gender
Lol shhhhh! They are being brave! Lmao Ive been a skater for over 16 years. I’ve never seen anyone trash talk girls for skating. I think what people get annoyed with is people like these idiots that just come in and take over, not knowing the kind of customs and courtesies of a skatepark and when the inevitable clash happens they feign victimhood. “Oh you don’t like girls skating in your park!?” It’s the same with parents who just drop their 6 yr old kids off to use the ramps like slides.. it’s the same exact thing.
look at literally MOST newspapers or news stories in american history, theres your "his" segment, i love seeing women getting equal chances than us men. I dislike it when feminists demand BETTER rights, but i am all for EQUAL rights and feminist movements, just no feminatzies please
Me and my friends used to steal the boys' skateboards just so we could get around the lake. We skateboarded to survive not because it was cool. but it is cool to upsure a boy how to use his board better than him
If you've been to Venice, it's crazy creepy again these days, and you're getting approached by all kinds of people trying to harass you or sell you stuff. Guess it's harder for chicks too since they bug them even more
Kinda pathetic i dont think no one really cares. iif you help people learn to skateboard thats cool but just teaching girls cuz of the sake patriarchy or something? I mean sure do what you like but this isnt ground breaking. Is just sad... lol

Everyone longs to be accepted in a group of friends. Must feel nice. 🙂
yes! i was a major skateboarder 1967-1989: taught my daughter to be a super skateboarder! Thank you for what you are doing!

29 years old and I still skate. Wish this was around when I was younger but so thankful for future generations. Girl power 🌸!!
I love her!! Go GURLS!! I just bought my first board after watching a Gurl Swirl video! Come to Miami Beach for a skate camp!

Venice, the birthplace of modern skateboarding. Peggy Oki was a member of the Zephyr crew who shaped skateboarding into what it is today
it's funny how most of the hater comments appear to be from men - I rest my case lol
Yes, we need this…my gf is always on the sidelines doesn’t want to try skating
DO A KICKFLIP!!!
No.

Andrew , well said.
In my professional life most men hate because I will train a female to be better than me in profession but knowledge doesn't have a gender does it?
I’d love to cruise with a lady that also loves to.
It should be inclusion, instead exclusion. Bringing people to skate and not separate women/girls. In the long run Society is even more separated.
Yeah. Why can’t there be a mixed group.
yaaaas go GRLSWRL!! (PS come to England! 🙏)
I just want to say is i love you all and keep safe!!
Wait so what did she make? Gatherings? I mean seriously what did she make

Fly Vegan No im actually serious this isn’t a joke I don’t understand
Initially it might have started with her just wanting a group to go skating... But now She could be teaching skating and making money out of it...
Just take my money and do whatever you wanna do with it...

Any chapter in seattle?
Excellant, Bravo!
Awesome initiative!! Can you name the contries GRLSWIRL excist in? :)

Get some popsicles for these girls and start doing some kickflips!
Why ? There are many different flavours of skating besides kickflips .
Like I kinda understand how this could be good but people don’t really care if woman do skateboarding or not especially down in Venice beach
Are they still doing tis ?
Where is HyojooKo?? The goddess on the longboard

Getting young people to wear helmets ? Let's work on that.
Wow what utter BS. If you want to skate, skate. Why does it have to be some grand virtue-signalling movement. Just skate. Garbage content.

Most of the Betties I grew up with could care less about any all female crews. They took turns on rails like everyone else.
She’s not threatening those girls, she’s doing her own thing.
@@Mx-veganworldby2050 I doubt my texts says she was threatening those girls

How does skateboarding effect girls

The same way it affects boys, wise up boy

Not none of them are wearing a face mask.
Noone cares also ;)
:)) So Cute hehehehe
So is the next step to join girls and boys so we can all just skate together and be friends?
I guess... Does it come with mace, license to carry, a free pea shooter and self defense classes.
Why do you need them?

I want off this planet

How about making teaching more inclusive for men?
What ?!!
Skateboarding was always inclusive to women they just werent that good at it...
They should be in the kitchen making daddy a sandwich
