Thanks OSW you guys are doing a great job. I love the reviews and the laughs the good old days of wrestling. These classical gems I love this nostalgic trip down memory lane. Wrestling won't be like this anymore sadly ☹
I’ve always liked the idea that Taker’s character is just death in different forms like an actual Undertaker, an evil cult leader, the toughest biker in a bar, etc. etc.
Whenever I rewatch Royal Rumble 94 (and as a massive Undertaker and Bret Hart fan, it’s often) the Owen “kicked the leg out of your leg” line makes me belly laugh every single time
Bret mentioned this finish in his book. He gave Lex a lot of credit for making sure that both of their feet touched at the exact same time to sell the confusion on who really won the match.
@@josecarranza7555 it was. It's crazy how well it turned out. The time that Cena and Batista went over the top at the same time in '06, I think, that wasn't scripted, hence why they got back in the ring and restarted until there was a winner. If you're not familiar with that one, check it out. They legit landed on the ground at the same time; and they didn't cut away from it because it was an accident.
It is my belief that those druids that were there at WrestleMania XX (and during the Ministry of Darkness storyline) are the ones that always revived Undertaker offscreen. The casket match against Yokozuna was the first time he died, and was revived as a lich. American Badass happened because the druids accidentally revived him alive, not as a lich. He's been a lich since WrestleMania XX. When he switched to just having one match a year, he's been dying of natural causes offscreen shortly after WrestleMania, or in the locker rooms after the match, and the druids just don't bother to revive him until the next March. The Saudi Prince has his own druids, so they revive Taker themselves.
I was actually at the 94 royal rumble, when they lifted the undertaker up they went up into a curtained off area where they removed his rigging stuff so nobody could see it. Love you guys!!!!
Same here brother...I was literally 11 years old and it ruined kayfabe for me. Also my dad grew up and went to good ole Saint Rays with former ref Timmy White so I got to meet Razor and the Smoking Guns and hold the IC Belt..to this day I still say Billy Gunn was the nicest dude I've ever met

I love a Rene Goulet career retrospective. Besides his long career in-ring, it seems like ol' Worzel was very busy with a lot of the behind the scenes heavy lifting of running the WWF for decades.
I love how Bret kayfabe mirrors shoot Hogan, refusing to fight the guy who claims he's better than the top guy. And like with Hogan, the guy he doesn't want to fight is his "brother".
Man, he really got burned out from that, didn't he? I know people keep bringing up Survivor Series 1997 as the hardest Bret got screwed over, but Wrestlemania 9 to KotR 1993 were just as bad.
@@brentdalebroux2821 thank you! People love to be condescending and call Bret "bitter"..... But how could he NOT be? 56:40 In storyline the original Western Mortician Undertaker character died when he suffocated to death inside the locked casket. The Western Mortician was a living undertaker with supernatural powers but in all the other versions of the character he was an undead revenant who couldn't be killed.
I was at this show. I was 10 years old. It was amazing. You can see me on the hard camera shot at many points during the event in my yellow Razor Ramon shirt.
I kind of love the fact that Taker has a couple of months off every few years. He's like "Yeah, I'm an absolute machine and have been wrestling for 25 years straight now but even _I_ need a fucking break every now and then, Jesus."
@@Capt._Cheese_Balls He was a 9/10 promo, 8/10 look, 9/10 psychology, and easily a 6/10 worker. Best working punch in wrestling (hence why Rock stole it).
I seem to recall an interview with Scott Hall where he alluded to wanting to be elevated to the World title scene, and was rebuffed. I think he felt somewhat stifled by being a perennial IC champion and opted for WCW, where he definitely had a hellacious run. Idk where he would have fit into the mid to late 90s WWF title picture.
@@JennaLeigh I think he could fit in anywhere and he was just starting his WWF career. He was a made man when he went to WCW. And he never once held the world title which is just sad. Especially considering if going to WCW was a better move and they put the belt on an actor and a writer instead of someone like him. It's just garbage, but that's the way Hall was. I'm sure he would've loved to be the top guy for a while, but according to Nash, he was always willing to put other guys over.
Also the segment about Fujiwara vs the Bear reminds me of one my favorite lines of any OSW episode, from Scooby Doo wrestlemania mystery where OOC says "would a bear tap? A bear wouldn't tap"
Never agreed with the ref stoppage. If you are stopping the match due to injury, a title match...….then Bret should have never been allowed to compete in the Rumble later in the night, due to injury. To me, it was a loophole in the booking. Should have just found another finish for the tag title match.

I watched this on PPV as it aired, and my little mark self was LOSING MY MIND when half the locker room showed up to take down 'Taker. I can still vividly remember a friend shouting, "Ah! It's DIESEL!!!" I was so infuriated in that way that only a small child or an adult fanboy can be. Then the part at the end blew. My. MIND.
I very very very very much enjoy & appreciate the old school vibes of your videos. the music & editing & old random footage, it's beautiful. thank u lads
I always laugh when I think about the beatdown on Taker. All these bigger, badass guys, and then there's Jeff Jarrett looking like he's trying to fit in with the popular crowd
I love you guys but I have to applaud you at your attention to detail. I went to this event eh the providence civic center and when you had the taker flying out of the civic center you actually showed our current venue which I think is amazingly on point. Thanks and keep it up.
For those who are unaware "Vinne Vegas" was Nash's gimmick in his original stint in WCW after "Master Blaster Steel" and the short lived "OZ" (his debut with this gimmick is worth searching for on RUclips, it is ridiculous) and right before he left for WWF. I am was only aware of the gimmick in name up until know but apparent it was wise-cracking "psuedo-mobster" gimmick (comedy heel?).
Paul Bearer told a great story about the giant urn with the light in it, it was super heavy and Vince told him after SummerSlam that he wanted to use it from then on just to piss him off. So any time Vince was around, Paul would sit there with a rag and some Brasso polishing the giant urn like :D, and. Vince got mad his joke didn't work.
In relation to the wrestlers not having intro music for the rumble, I always loved how the crowd would go silent with baited breath. It really built the anticipation for whoever was next. Really miss that.
You gotta love the mentality of Vince McMahon! He's the true legitimate owner of a million to billion dollar company and he's out there working in the announcer role. Just that announcer. But he's out there selling his company as the voice of the company. The owner of the company, decided to work the role of the announcer for decades, thinking nobody knew he was the Owner. It's almost like a true undercover boss. It's like the owner of a company working the entry level position.
By the way, if you never got to watch 'Taker return at WMXX, that "oh, yes" gave everyone massive chills live. It was incredible. And Mark Callaway got ripped to shreds for the return, so it was good all around.
it was pretty strongly hinted that taker would return as the dead man in 2004. all the vignettes pointed towards that plus the fact that he was "buried" and since he was buried the only way he could come back was if he was the deadman

I watched this on PPV as it aired, and my little mark self was LOSING MY MIND when half the locker room showed up to take down 'Taker. I can still vividly remember a friend shouting, "Ah! It's DIESEL!!!"
I was so infuriated in that way that only a small child or an adult fanboy can be. Then the part at the end blew. My. MIND.
That film was made in Toronto :) The CN Tower is immediately recognizable
Planned on watching for five minutes. Ended up watching for an hour. Bravo. Loved the Taker career breakdown
More OSW dropping? You boys just made my Friday
I very very very very much enjoy & appreciate the old school vibes of your videos. the music & editing & old random footage, it's beautiful. thank u lads
I’ve been waiting for this one, childhood on toast boys 👏👏👏
I always laugh when I think about the beatdown on Taker. All these bigger, badass guys, and then there's Jeff Jarrett looking like he's trying to fit in with the popular crowd
im just here to support you on youtube too
I love you guys but I have to applaud you at your attention to detail. I went to this event eh the providence civic center and when you had the taker flying out of the civic center you actually showed our current venue which I think is amazingly on point. Thanks and keep it up.
Multiple cans of Coke lads. Cheers for the episode.
When I was a kid I loved wrestling great memories these lads are hard working men no doubt
To this day, Taker's WM 20 entrance still gives me chills. (It was the first WWE show I ever got to go to)
New gen era, you guys make it better then it actually was. Great writing, great comedy, great chemistry. Keep em coming boys.
I love how at the 2005 Rumble Cena and Batista landed at the exact same time, completely unintentionally.
I hope every review featuring Vince McMahon on commentary has an EMF count! xD
You guys are so great, keeps us all in good spirits with a laugh :D
"Anything but Todd Pettingill"
Classic Vince avin a laugh
the Quebecers finishing maneuver was dope and devastating. you better not recover and try to kick out from that lol.
Moody worked him into a shoot! :D
In relation to the wrestlers not having intro music for the rumble, I always loved how the crowd would go silent with baited breath. It really built the anticipation for whoever was next. Really miss that.
I was at this one, awesome time!
Welcome back lads! Thank you
You gotta love the mentality of Vince McMahon!
This might be my favorite OSW
By the way, if you never got to watch 'Taker return at WMXX, that "oh, yes" gave everyone massive chills live. It was incredible. And Mark Callaway got ripped to shreds for the return, so it was good all around.
These intros get better each and every time
it was pretty strongly hinted that taker would return as the dead man in 2004. all the vignettes pointed towards that plus the fact that he was "buried" and since he was buried the only way he could come back was if he was the deadman
