- The I-375 redesign would convert the Detroit freeway into a six-lane boulevard, but a group of concerned residents say the project would hinder their quality of life and have a negative impact on businesses in the area.
Make streets walkable!
Put it underground
Dallas, Texas got it right, or at least getting it right. Deck parks over the freeway can be the best answer to reconnecting neighborhoods if getting rid of the freeway isn’t an option.
No different then crossing Jefferson..
:::SAVE I-375:::
We were two of the people calling for the removal of I-375, until we started driving for ride sharing and delivery services. We should reconsider the plan for I-375 and here is why:
:::SUPER EFFICIENT:::
The downtown horseshoe is actually extremely efficient to jump from one side of downtown to the other, or jump from east downtown to east or west Corktown, in a fraction of the time it would take you to drive straight through.
I-375 should be capped or saved for future use. If it is made into a park, it should retain the valley, like a second Dequindre Cut. The ability to quickly circumvent downtown, instead of bisecting it on the surface is an important asset for future infrastructure.
These expressways are our quick and efficient future underground autonomous vehicle routes or busways/subways. Maybe we should wait to see what happens in the next five to ten years When things like the Hudsons and Monroe Block are completed. I bet Detroit will wish it had these rights-of-way in the near future. Even if you want a boulevard, they could also be capped now for underground parking, temporarily.

stop I am all the way against you on this. I love the redisn idea. I live in this area and walk accross i375 to greek town every weekend with my cat. No one else makes this walk. It very rare for anyone to go this way.
It will be fine. Don't panic.
@@mastercats I'd be fine, but it might be a dumb move. There is a better redesign movement including mass transit.
It is a lost opportunity to just remove it without more study. There is a great case study for how this could be economically done, here in the USA, it was discussed via the Detroit Free Press or News.
It isn't going to make Detroit look better just because we sacked a road.
Instead of making improvements now (which will take a year +) of construction. Your saying wait 5-10 years?
I'm from California the road here in Detroit are the worst I've ever seen. If we want to keep Detroit's positive momentum we need to modernize our roads.
@@mastercats No, maybe the right of way should be saved for public transit, the same way they set aside half of the Dequindre Cut for a future light rail trolley line that will connect Eastern Market to the Riverfront. This isn't needed yet, but it was envisioned in the plan.
This needs to be discussed with the community more. I-375 should be considered for being converted into part of a public transit line, and you would still get your park.
AND, removing a freeway might get us a news blip, but removing a freeway for public transit will make us a case study for much longer.
Preserving the right of way and some parts of the infrastructure for future mass transit is a good idea. That being said, closing the trench will be so good for the neighborhood and the city
HOW ABOUT LISTEN TO THE PEOPLE WHO LIVE THERE!!! REMEMBER WHO YOU VOTE FOR.
Just leave I-375 as a freeway
There's no reason for I-375 to exist, but the plans they have are just as bad. They should make it 2 lanes in each way, with a park/walking boulevard in the middle.
This man made alot of brilliant observations 💯 buzzwords will never work on us
