Looks fun! Thanks covering this. Hopefully you do a follow up review? I could see myself using the new role card set up for the original Saboteur.

Thanks for the overview. Just got this from a white elephant party. I really enjoy the original saboteur + expansion so I'm sure I'll enjoy this as well

You’re welcome! i think it’s a more interesting game than the original, but it has problems at lower player counts.

Thanks for the video! one quesion: what do you do with the discard deck? is that just gone or do you use it when the normal deck is empty/gone? And do you pick a dwarf based on the color of the backside?

Thanks for the review! I have a question regarding swap card rule. If I swap cards with player who had lost a card due to rat’s attack, does that mean that I will have 1 card less till the end of the game even though I have not been attacked ?

Do you shuffle the discard pile back into the draw pile and keep going? Or does your draw pile just get used once and then game over?

The game ends when one of a few conditions are met - one of them being that the draw deck runs out. So you're only going through that deck once, with no reshuffles.

Is it possible to play w 3 players? It seems that it’s unfair

We tried it at 3p, and it didn’t work very well. Very early, on player looked at another player’s card and saw that he was the saboteur. That took all the tension out of the game, and it was 2 players vs 1, which was no fun for the saboteur. So we called the game early.

Is this better than Saboteur + Saboteur 2?

To be honest, i own both of them, but it's been soooo long since i played Saboteur (and i don't know if i ever cracked open Saboteur 2?) It's hard for me to get a big group together for a game like this. What i WILL say is that i've played The Dark Cave twice now: once at 2p and once at 3p, and it's definitely a game you want to play as close to the max player count as you can be - in this case, 8p.
In our 3p game, i was a saboteur. i used spyglasses on two separate turns to peek at a goal card (it was the exit) and at another player's card (he was also a saboteur). So at that point, there was no reason to keep that information to myself: i just told my partner we were both saboteurs, and i told him where the exit was, and the rest of the game would have been the two of us just beating up on the other guy until we won, which didn't seem very fun, so we stopped playing at that point. It would be harder for something like that to happen at a higher player count.

I should say in Saboteur 2 the other saboteur might beat you to the treasure then play a “swap hats” card on you hoping to switch your team. You get more gold for being on a smaller team. Also there’s a “steal treasure” card they might use against you at the end of the round. Also if you have a “trap door” card in front of you then you don’t get gold being on the winning team. Being on the same team might only help for one round. You typically play for the most gold over multiple rounds…I played the original too much. I highly recommend Saboteur 2.

@@NightsAroundaTable I think there is no saboteur with 3p. Just a free for all match.

Looks a bit too convoluted and I don't like the cardboard standees. I prefer the simplicity of the original Saboteur and I play something different if I want something meatier.
