Truth about "Play" by JLo : • JLo & Christina Milian...
"I'm Real" had the "Firecracker" sample that Mariah was going to originally use on "Loverboy". Before the sample was included in JLo's track, Mariah's ex husband and ex boss Tommy Motolla heard about Mariah's plans because he was spying on her still, even though Mariah was not at Sony anymore, but now Virgin Records.
The movie Glitter, that Mariah wrote "Loverboy" for, was released by Sony Entertainment and so, Tommy being a Sony CEO at the time, he managed to get the inside scoop on the project. He wanted to foil Mariah's career since they split in 1997, and wanted to use JLo to help accomplish this after signing JLo in 1998. Somehow with Tommy's input, JLo covered "Do You Know Where You're Going To" by Diana Ross in 1999 after Mariah had just released her cover in 1998. Tommy paid off Irv Gotti and Ja Rule to work with JLo on the "I'm Real" and "Ain't It Funny" Remixes because he knew Mariah wanted to break them into the mainstream with having them featured on her "If We" song which was to be released on the Glitter soundtrack. So he instead had the remix collaborations with JLo rushed to be put out before Mariah could release her song with them. JLo wasn't to know about this, Tommy was her boss and he was the one who had the inside knowledge on Mariah's then upcoming project, not JLo. Tommy also made sure to lower the cd price for Destiny's Child's "Bootylicious" song, as they were signed to him through Sony Colombia, the same label Mariah used to be on. Just so the song could compete and beat out Loverboy for the number 1 spot and try and make her look like a flop, even though that song did very well. The last thing I believe, in which Tommy used JLo to get back at Mariah, was having JLo release a song titled "Alive" off of her remix album complilation in 2002. Mariah was due to release an EP that same year called "Alive" but it ended up being a full length album now known as "Charmbracelet".
JLo has said publically that she has never had a problem with Mariah, but that Mariah's feud with her is "record label issues that she didn't know about" and she was TELLING THE TRUTH. She sometimes gets tracks sent to her, but that doesn't mean she does no work. She has her own creative input and the stigma about her being like Rihanna, who just literally goes in the booth and sings songs that were handed to her completed; isn't fair.
All this information can be verified by legit sources if you do your research. JLo, Irv Gotti, Mariah, Damizza (producer and ex bf who worked with Mariah) and Da Brat amongst others have all spoken on it.
