I’m here from Finding Alternatives where I enjoyed seeing your beautiful home. I’m so glad I found you! The views from your boat of this inlet were beyond words! Your narration is amazing as is your editing. I’m looking forward to your next video. New subscriber. 😊
Spectacular scenery in the Canadian fjord of Bute Inlet. I live in Seattle and have gone camping on Vancouver Island as well as the San Juans, Olympic Peninsula, etc. The Pacific NW has beautifully awesome topography with its majestic peaks, glaciers, forests, and wildlife. I just discovered your blog and watched two episodes aboard your airstream, which quite impressed me. The Peruvian rug in your kitchen area is exactly the same as my cushion. Your home is beautifully designed and decorated. Jenny ⛵🌲🐺🐾🦉🪶🦦🐋
Hi Jenny! The PNW really has it all doesn’t it! Amazing place. Stoked you found us and glad you enjoyed the vids! Good eye on the rug, belonged to my grandparents, they lived in Peru for a decade! Thanks so much!
About a month after getting my C30 and outfitting it with a brand new 35lb CQR my anchor rode fouled badly in a flat mud bottomed bay. It turned out that the bay had in the past, been used to store log booms prior to hauling them to the mill. As a result, there were thousands of logs laying in the mud on the bottom. The night was very light wind and I dutifully had out 6:1 scope in 20' of water. In the morning I pulled in about 20' of the 120' I had out and that was all. Looking at my anchor track I could see that my boat had gently wandered all over the anchor zone. It became obvious that I had effectively tied the rode around many logs. Not willing to drop nearly a thousand dollars of gear over the side I spend all day lifting logs off the bottom. I took the rode to the cockpit and used both 40ST primary winches to haul in the rode as tight as I could get it with me on the first one and my wife on the second. That gave me a purchase of somewhere around 60:1 with the losses. This force would haul the boat down until it was heeling over 10º. We would both get on the low side and then jump across to the high side which would greatly increase the tension in the rode as the boat tried to lean the other way. If we got lucky, the loop of line would slip off the end of the log and we could haul in another 10'-15' to the next log loop. If not, we would tension it as tight as we could get it and jump again. We spent probably 10-hours working in the hot July sun to get the anchor back. The worst part of the whole ordeal was the stank of that mud coming up with the logs. As we pulled up the logs, putrid gas would come bubbling up to the surface and just hang around the boat. The line was also covered with the stinky mud, and it got all over the cockpit. Lesson learned. In a flat mud bay, expect a lot of logs that will catch loops of rode if you are drifting around. Now, If it is very calm, I hard power set my anchor with a 4:1 scope with 1800-rpms. I then shorted the scope down to 2.5:1 which greatly limits how much line is dragging the bottom for logs. I set a tight anchor alarm that will sound if i move out of a 3:1 circle. If the wind comes up, I let out more scope to get me out to something appropriate for the wind because then I will not be drifting around in circles lassoing logs.
Mate! Very well done, stoked that you retrieved your ground tackle!! It sounds like we've had a very similar experience when anchoring in used logging bays, it's pretty easy to get wrapped up on submerged debris. Thank you for sharing, we also anchor with a reduced scope in light winds for this reason now :) Cheers!
Cheers mate. Our outhaul is currently seized and set fairly loosely, we are looking repair it though! All part of the joys of sailing a good old boat, thanks for watching!
Fantastic adventure, beautiful place to connect. You just gotta love finding new places even if it is to over night anchor or go to places very remote. See you next week.
Thanks for all work. I am familiar with the time needed to edit. You have NAILED the vibe of sailing perfectly. As a teenager I sailed through these waters with the RCSCC (Sea Cadets) brings back of memories. Now, about your knot tying skills . . . LOL
I've always wanted to see what Bute Inslet was like but no one goes there. Thank you so much. Now I will look to see where else remote you go on the coast. Maybe even Knight Inslet.
@@AllisonandJamesSailing Did and still do live on the coast. I recall one spot where a rock wall comes straight out of the water and up for several hundreds of feet and there is apparently no bottom at a 1000 feet. I recall swimming in Castle lake, at the end of Teakerne arm, in March.
@@AllisonandJamesSailing well we had been searching for the right boat for awhile and your videos actually helped us a ton on deciding on the Catalina 30.
The fjords on this coast are really something! They don't get the same international attention as the sounds in places like New Zealand but they're equally as spectacular!
hi james its chris sashas buddy remember u sewed my leg up on the patio lol and gave me a guitar when u heard my house got robbed anyway ya man im so so unbelievable happy to see ur doing this much love brother. ya im kinda buzzin sahasha and i are winter camping ya ANYWAYS SO MUCH LOVE IM GONNA SUB ON MY UTUBE ACCOUNT WHEN I GET HOME AGAIN MISS U BUD MUCH LOVE BE SAFE HAVE FUN
Chris!! Mate!! Wish I could be there, hanging out with you and Sasha! Miss you guys and am so grateful that you’re part of my life! Much from from the west coast!
Hi there, I am also here from finding alternatives. Now what are the chances that i like tiny houses AND Boats! 😁 May I ask what specific boat that is?
We took it off to repair it (spent long hours sewing it all by hand 😅) and then we had trouble getting it back on there! We eventually stretched it enough, just in time for the rainy season
Yes we would love to manufacture one down the track! Would prevent me from looking as red as I did at the end of this vid haha hoping to build it in the budget soon -A
Do you have to move? Can’t you just let the boat rest in one place while you have your lunch? I would be reluctant to shatter the stillness with a motor noise.
Ahh yes unfortunately the sound of the engine ruins every setting out here. But there's a constant 2knot current flowing out of these big inlets so if we were to cut the engine we would have been going backwards.
Great music!
Thank you!! Finding the right music is a tall task sometimes
My heart just filled up when I watched the video for the second time ♥️
This is unreal you guys!
I can see why you’re anxious to get back to your little boat. Stunning! What skill to capture and package natures beauty ♥️♥️
We’re pretty spoiled with the landscape where we are! Thanks for watching momma -A
I dont have the words, absolutely beautiful, thank you
Definitely left us speechless as well. Thanks so much for joining on the adventure Patrick!

Thank you Suzanne! The camera doesn’t do it any justice period.
Wishing you a wonderful one as well!
Beautiful video.
Thank you Mark! Glad you enjoyed it
Thanks for sharing that mooring technique! Awesome video!
Glad you enjoyed that, thank you for watching!
Let the outhaul out in light wind so the main can capture that light wind.

What a spectacular cove! James, you have landed spectacularly well! Australia has lots of nice places, but nothing like this.
