That trick for eliminating snipe is so obvious but so genius! I've never thought of it and I haven't seen it anywhere else Great project, amazing work !
Thanks Collin! I usually don't use that trick because I can afford to have a few extra inches of material to cut off. But with this wood was to expensive for that. Thanks for your comment!
That ring box is the most amazing thing ever!!Hopefully get to do something like that in wood at school for my girlfriend. Definitely saving this video to do this one day. Good work man
HHAHA this guy's commantary is on point! "Here is me pretending to hold a peice of lumber", "you could use paint or a crayon" and the entire time he sounds high af. VERY entertaining.
Nice work! Our first anniversary is coming up in Oct and this just gave me the idea of a thoughtful handmade gift. Just need to design one to make it my own!
Great little box! Not sure if you've tried this before but with the fostner bit and your drill press you can do many overlapping holes and get rid of a lot of those little triangles as you call them. They make some very small barrel hinges that you might try on the next one. It might allow you to mount two hinges to stop it from racking. Try searching pen box hinges. I enjoy the pace of your videos and the great stills at the end.
Thanks for the great comment Tom. Pretty helpful tip with the forester bit. You know, I've tried those tiny barrel hinges and had such a hard time installing them let alone finding a drill bit that actually matched the diameter. I think I tried every increment of 64th of an inch as well as millimeters and still couldn't get a nice snug fit. Anyway, maybe I'll give them another shot one day. Thanks again for the comment.
Just found this, have you looked at "letter gauge drill bit sizes"? A lot of kits will require a letter sized bit which actually exist between the metric and 1/64 increments. Gauge:A Inches:0.234 Metric (mm):5.944
"Or a crayon" hah! Great video. The end product turned out well. You could also try some Rub N Buff if you ever wanted to get some color in the CNCed area.
you should make some zippo lighter cases , walnut that would sell good . i mean make the actual sleeve they insert the lighter portion . not a box to protect it , cool build
Well the sped up audio all sounds like chipmunks. But I do usually keep one song on repeat each day I work but I'm not sure which I listened to during this build.
do you have the infeed and outfeed tables for the 735 planer they would not have helped with the small pieces but normally when people complain about snipe on that planer they we doing longer pieces and not using infeed of outfeed tables
Good call. Ya I've been meaning to buy those attachments but haven't gotten around to it. In the back of my head I'm hoping a big floor standing planer pops up on craigslist for me to snag.
well the 735 is a great machine if you are stuck on 120 volts like I am but if you have 240 then yea watching the used market and buying something bigger is probally the smart thing to do You could always make wood one for the dewalt but why when the DW7351's are 43.64 shipped ply wood would cost about that to build something The good thing is they pop on and off easy so if you need the space savings they are great not being fixed like my drum sander extensions that bug the hell out of me my 16/32 sander that thing takes up way too much room
Hi Bubu. I bought it locally but you can search for "boss barrel hinge" to find something of similar or better quality. I used the 10mm version but there are other sizes.
Just discover your Vids, Great work Man. But it seems to be difficult to get the ring out of the Box. Holding between two layers of Felt . You have always to "shoot" him out, or shake the Ring out of the Box
The Box is way deeper than a ring. The groove is so smal that the Ring will not fall around and is hold between the layers of Felt. But when you push the Ring totally into the Box, you cant touch him, nomore ? so you have to shake the Box, or tap it (Like Cigarette Boxes) to make "shoot" the Ring out of the Box. Maybe I m in Error, but that was what I was thinking about first.
Sorry I didn't answer your question earlier. The holes are only an inch or so deep, maybe less. The ring would bottom out before the stone is fully "submerged."
Is there any way I can convince you to make one for me? I'm a skilled Carpenter myself and I love working with wood, I just don't have access to the tools it takes to make something like that.
It's the Shapeoko XXL with the Dewalt router. I've realized the XXL is overkill and takes up too much space in my shop. Would probably get the XL if I did it over again.
Video looks great, but the audio is really hard to listen to. Very tinny audio with no low end what so ever. I would recommend using a higher quality external mic if you plan on making videos for a while.
By far the coolest build I've seen for one these boxes. Simple but elegant, with alot of cool touches .
Saved the video....maybe one day
A crayon is definitely my go to precision woodworking marking tool.
Probably the only thing in my shop I can sharpen well.
DA Designs plus it can be a snack too. :-)
That trick for eliminating snipe is so obvious but so genius! I've never thought of it and I haven't seen it anywhere else
Great project, amazing work !
I seriously never considered that to eliminate snipe in a planer! I can't wait to try it.
Thanks Collin! I usually don't use that trick because I can afford to have a few extra inches of material to cut off. But with this wood was to expensive for that. Thanks for your comment!
beautiful,,,,,,,,,,,,,,simple elegant ,,,,,,,,,,,thanks for the idea...........nice job...........
Holy, that block of wood is such a beautiful colour!
Cocobolo is some crazy nice wood!
Hope she loves the box!!
Amazing work man!! Never thought a simple ring holder could look so good.
Very nicely done. The continuous grain looks great.
Thanks John! I was concerned the table saw kerf would malign the grain continuity but I think the chamfers did a good job of fixing that.
"You can use Microsoft paint, or, a crayon." 😂😂😂😂
Jesus Christ, each one was more degrading then the last lol
Lol. Can't forget that
Lovely piece of work and piece of art.
Thank you very much Yoann!
That ring box is the most amazing thing ever!!Hopefully get to do something like that in wood at school for my girlfriend. Definitely saving this video to do this one day. Good work man
Thanks Justin! Hopefully you get it build one day!
Lovely 😍 👌 thank you so much!!!
I have no idea why but this is the most spectacular piece I've ever seen. Absolutely in love 😍😍😍😍😍😍
Thanks a lot!
Excellent project. Will be using that idea next year. Thanks
Thanks John! Good luck!
Great simple design!
Thank you Felipe!
Picked some of this wood out last week holy crap it is hard to carve!!!!
Looks a bit like a zippo lighter
Cool trick with the planer! Also the final product is really cool!
Thanks!
Excellent job.
Very sharp design!
great project, makes me want to build one. Thanks
HHAHA this guy's commantary is on point! "Here is me pretending to hold a peice of lumber", "you could use paint or a crayon" and the entire time he sounds high af. VERY entertaining.
ever thought of doing a fine silver inlay? with the dark wood i think it would look great
Nice ring box!
Stellar work as always John!
Thanks a lot Art.
Love the final look of that and the satisfying click of the magnet
Thanks Dylan!
Hey there ! I discovered your channel this WE. Everything you create is just awesome. Keep up posting videos of your work.
Thanks a lot grantlee.
Awesome job and a beautiful ring box.
Thank you Thom!
Love it. Definitely gonna try this.
Thank you Sigi!
Nice work! Our first anniversary is coming up in Oct and this just gave me the idea of a thoughtful handmade gift. Just need to design one to make it my own!
Thanks Mike! Good call...hopefully you come up with something cool! That reminds me...my anniversary is in September. I better get to work!
Sehr Edel gut gemacht
Wow, that looks very nice, great work. I might do something like that some day.
Keep up the good work!
Thanks Benjamin! Give it a shot...they're fun little projects.
Really nice
Beautifully done!
Excellent job my friend Looks awesome.
Thanks Opa!

I made a jewelry box out of cocobolo for my wife and turns out I am very allergic to this wood, glade I got my eyesight back!
Cocobolo and some other exotics get me kind of stuffy...I definitely use my mask more with those woods.
I just wanted a wooden zippo cover after seeing this!.. pls do that!..
"Or a crayon" hah! Great video. The end product turned out well. You could also try some Rub N Buff if you ever wanted to get some color in the CNCed area.
Lol thanks Matthew! I'll have to give the rub n buff a try next time.
you listen to the chipmunks while you wood work....=P love the video...great work!
Lol thanks Garner!
Lol your sence of humor is perfect
Lol thank you Travis!!
Beautiful! I really like your work. Keep it up 👍
Thanks a lot!
Very cool! I like the design.
Thanks Bruce!
Very nice ring box. When I first saw the pic, I thought it was a case for a Zippo lighter. Damn! did I just give you an idea? lol
Thanks Cliff! The zippo was one of the inspirations for the design.
Great project thanks for sharing
Thanks Warren!
nice work
Sei un master!!!!!!!!
Prwtty kool man nice work
ohh, its a ring box, nice one... how bout make a same kind of box for SD cards would be nice..
Not a bad idea!
pls man, make one would be so nice...
Looks a lot like a wooden Zippo lighter. Like a really expensive wooden Zippo lighter. Nice wood
Wedding ring bow ide
Thought it was a lighter. Cool project
Good music choice, jack Johnson is where it's at!
Thanks Luc! I have his new album on loop in the shop.
parillaworks looks like you and I have something in common!
Love the vids !
Thanks Max!
Nice !!!!
Terrific
"But you can use ms paint or a crayon" cracked me up. Nice little box :)
Lol thanks Waul.
Cool video, thanks for sharing! Any pointers on where to get tiny little latch magnets like that?
Thanks Grant. I think I got them on amazon a while back. They're 1/8" x 1/8" neodymium magnets. Came in a 100 pack.
Great job, looks like a zippo
Yup!! Thanks!
Looks 👍
This is a great job man. I have one question. Is there a reason why you didnt use the cnc for the holes as well?!
Haha a crayon I laughed pretty hard at that 😂
Awesome
oooo me likely likely Coco Bolo!
a beautiful zippo lighter 😉👍🏽
1:48 that is the exact date my father passed away.
you should make some zippo lighter cases , walnut that would sell good . i mean make the actual sleeve they insert the lighter portion . not a box to protect it , cool build
Not a bad idea!
parillaworks i second this idea
Muy bonito saludos desde Barcelona Catalonia
Cool box! Where I can take such loops for opening?
Thank you! Maybe there was an error in translation but I think you might be asking about the hinges. They're 10mm barrel hinges.
parillaworks, thank you!
Cooooool
What size magnets did you use? Neodymium? Magnets can be tricky if they are to powerful or not powerful enough
1/8” x 1/8” neodymium. They don’t have a ton of strength but the hinge is fairly tight anyway.
@@parillaworks thanks
Seven and a half years ... don't want to rush into anything too quickly now...
I need some help, I can get the hinge to open the lid right. How much space are you leaving at the end of the box for the hinge to actually work?
I haven't made any of these boxes in a while but I from my drawing it says the center of the hinge is 0.27" from the end of the box.
What song are you keeping on repeat in the background? Lol.
Well the sped up audio all sounds like chipmunks. But I do usually keep one song on repeat each day I work but I'm not sure which I listened to during this build.
Lol the statement about pretending to choose a piece of wood was epic
I misread the title. I thought it said Chocobo XD
What size bit did you use for the barrel hinges?
I believe they were 10mm barrel hinges so I used a 10mm drill bit. The hinges can be expanded to fill the hole for a firm fit.
His idea for mitigating the wandering of the band saw blade was genius! Btw, what is the technical term for this? I can't seem to remember...
Thanks! I would consider it a zero clearance jig or insert. It makes cutting smaller pieces easier and safer.
very amazing, how proud if I could be as great as you. my work is far from yours. Greetings from a hobby
do you have the infeed and outfeed tables for the 735 planer they would not have helped with the small pieces but normally when people complain about snipe on that planer they we doing longer pieces and not using infeed of outfeed tables

Hello! Write me please, from where did you buy this hinge?
Thank you!!
Hi Bubu. I bought it locally but you can search for "boss barrel hinge" to find something of similar or better quality. I used the 10mm version but there are other sizes.
Better call Saul
that desk was probably so damn expensive
Kittycatcarlos 7 you called
What were final dimensions for the box?
It was in the neighborhood of 2" x 4" x 0.875". I think it was a little under 2" x 4" or so.
Just discover your Vids, Great work Man.
But it seems to be difficult to get the ring out of the Box. Holding between two layers of Felt .
You have always to "shoot" him out, or shake the Ring out of the Box
ComicClub01 what are you talking about? Why would you shoot the ring? Haha
The solution is simply to not push the ring totally into the box.
Sorry I didn't answer your question earlier. The holes are only an inch or so deep, maybe less. The ring would bottom out before the stone is fully "submerged."
very nice. cocobolo is african wood?
Thanks! I believe its from Central America.
Is there any way I can convince you to make one for me? I'm a skilled Carpenter myself and I love working with wood, I just don't have access to the tools it takes to make something like that.
Sure! Shoot me a message or email and we can discuss.
parillaworks okay, what's your email?
Subbed
considering something similar for my to use....where did you get those magnets?
I got them on amazon some time ago. I think it was a 100 pack of 1/8" x 1/8" magnets. I use a 7/64" bit and press fit them.
parillaworks thanks for the quick reply. Can't seem to find them on the Canadian version of Amazon. I'll keep trying.
how did you get the hinges??
I think you can get them on Amazon. Look for Soss Barrel Hinges, 10mm.
gravestone of the free life...
What CNC do you use?
It's the Shapeoko XXL with the Dewalt router. I've realized the XXL is overkill and takes up too much space in my shop. Would probably get the XL if I did it over again.
I just wanna know what kind of wood is that 😭😭
Cocobolo.
What is the name of the tool used at 04:42?
At first just a bench chisel then a round rasp sometimes called a rats tail I think. And the clamp is a wood screw clamp.
Perfeito
How much if i want you make one for me..i'm from malaysia.
Email me at parillaworks@gmail.com if you're interested in purchasing one.
👍👍
as for me, the box is more expensive than ring 😅
Video looks great, but the audio is really hard to listen to. Very tinny audio with no low end what so ever. I would recommend using a higher quality external mic if you plan on making videos for a while.
Thanks for your comment Ryan. Do you have any suggestions for a better mic that would give better results?
прекрасно изпълнение
Does anyone know the "song" on 0:55?
Pina Colada Song by Jack Johnson. :)
'Cause if you liked it, then you should have put a ring on it
