Prosperity, peace, helping people. The top side still has advanced technology and is centuries ahead of Zaun in any other aspect. Its a butterfly next to a dragon. So there is no threat, no down side and therefor no haggling required. This deal is basically a win-win for Jayce if you look at his actual goals. Remove shimmer, return the gemstone, make Zaun self reliant and better the circumstances of what is basically Piltover's neighbor, which in turn could benefit Piltover itself. Just think about it. Would you rather live next to a violent, stinking homeless shelter full of drugs and dangerous maniacs or next to a handy man that could provide you with cheap services and goods? Both sides of that deal go in that direction. A win-win for Jayce. In a word - progress.
I’ve know for at least two months, well after a 3rd time binge watching the season, surprised that RUclipsrs whom reacted to this series seems to miss it
Silco wasn't just giving up his dream of a free Zaun - his was basically putting his life on the line. He was already on thin ice. The chem barons wanted him out, and Sevika thinks the only thing holding up the cause is Jinx. Sevika had already demonstrated years earlier that she has no patience for weakness. So when word would get out that Silco gave up an independent Zaun because he selfishly wanted to protect Jinx, he must've known it would be over for him.
@@ZanyMei yeah, that explains his overall sadness since the negotiation with Jayce. There was no happy ending either way for him. That little toast feels a lot like a goodbye to everything.
@@laurocoman dang. I thought that was just him coming to terms with Vander. Which it it was but it was also a goodbye to his life same as Vander’s. The writing in the show is so good. So many hidden meanings.
Dude, I never even considered that! If he gave up Zaun he could be with Jinx, and potentially steer her toward fully accepting her identity as ‘Jinx’, but he would be walking around with a larger target on his back as a traitor and arguably the weaker of the two. He would be constant target for assassination by both Piltover and Sevika, and if he were to die, he would be leaving Jinx alone in the world since he’s been doing his utmost to sever that emotional connection to Vi all this time. He’d leave Jinx worse off in death; if he was killed by someone of Zaun like Sevika or a chembaron, she could very well go nuts and burn the whole city to the ground since it was Zaun that took him away from her. Part 2 and 3 demonstrated that while Jinx doesn’t like Piltover or Enforcers, she doesn’t care very much for Silco’s plans of an independent Zaun, either. It’s not something she’s particularly interested in. She’s very much about ‘doing whatever, whenever since the world doesn’t care about her existence, so why should she play by society’s rules?’ If he sold out Jinx, Zaun would get what it always dreamed of, but in doing so he would be giving up on the one enduring principle he held, which was loyalty to those he holds close. While he’s manipulative, ruthless, pragmatic, business-and-profit-minded, he wouldn’t have been able to swallow down his conscience of creating an independent city on the back of a betrayal. It went against the sort of Zaun he wanted to create: A den of thieves and unscrupulous businessmen, but a haven that would close ranks to protect each other from outsiders. Jinx being the one who killed Silco was ironic but also poetic in its own way. Because she was the one to kill him, Zaun is safe from her vengeful wrath.
I love the tragedy in this scene: “Is their anything as undoing as a daughter?” When Jinx hears it, she assumes that Silco thinks the she constantly screws up his plans and schemes, and just sees her as a failure. When in reality, Silco is saying that he would give anything for Jinx, because he cares for her more than anything.
She thinks he's saying she's weak. Instead he's saying he's weak. Because he's about to give up everything he ever wanted for her. But he's going to do it, because nothing matters more than her.
I so badly wish he'd finished it with something like "I could never give her up" just something, anything that would've told Jinx that he'd never actually betray her or give her up. I know he didn't know she was there but I still desperately wish he'd expressed some aspect of how fully felt, just something that would've made it clear that he too could never give up his child. It might've messed with the moment in some way but I just desperately wish Jinx had known from the start that her dad would never leave her.
"The boy didn't even haggle" I love this line and it's implications. It shows Jayce didn't ask for anything but peace and Silco knows it. The three things he did ask for, the end of shimmer, the gemstone, and Jinx, weren't for the sake of mitigating any loss or trying to retain some advantage, power, or control over Silco and his people. It was just the price for peace. And peace for everyone, not just Piltover.
That is most certainly not at all implied Jayce was very arrogant in their exchange, he has become corrupted by that point He got "scared straight" somewhat after accidentally murdering a child (which Vi simply shrugged off!) but still....
@@alexanderplatypus3664 Fuck no, Corrupted? It's ridiculous to call jayce "arrogant" after his fight with zaun's mech thugs. That's literally one of the scenes where he gets humbled and it affects the rest of his choices.
He eventually understood the reason why Vander gave up on their dreams and made it his priority to keep the people he held most dear safe because that was enough for him.
Everyone says this but idk I think Silco was still committed to Zaun. He was struggling internally with how to proceed. It's ultimately Vi's fault for telling Jayce all about Jinx to be honest, that is what set up this demand for her! Silco was searching for a way forward, he didn't simply give up and become the same as Vander
@@alexanderplatypus3664 He still fell short on his convictions, like Vader, unable to take the needed sacrifice needed to get Zaun independence. Silco is trapped now. His power was waining, but then he gets everything he has worked and fought for his entire life offered tae him, and the price is the only thing he can not pay. His death to Jinx was very likely the best outcome he could hope for. She was sincerely horrified she had done it, and in his last moments he felt her mourning him, meaning she loved him. In the grand scheme, how many get tae die beside their loved ones?
@@brookejon3695 Apparently, in the games, Jinx likes talking to the big shark-shaped gun Fishbones, and it is generally the voice of reason for her, almost like a patient parental figure in her head. In Arcane, it's pretty clear that she designed the gun Fishbones with Silco in mind (his love of aquatic animals, the scar on one eye, etc.). I wouldn't be surprised if, in season 2, she hears Silco's voice from Fishbones.
I think the one of the main reasons why Silco forgave Jinx in the end for killing him is because he thought Jinx tried to protect Vi when he aimed the gun at her. Something Silco wished that he did the same with Vander, his sibling, which makes the part with him pouring his drink into the fountain more poignant.
Jinx's senses appear to increase while hearing voices, as seen in the fight with the fireflies. She hears the incoming attack far before anyone else. In this scene, she only points the gun after Silco grabs the other gun. I believe she was genuinely trying to protect Vi, just didn't have time to consider the consequences
Thats the same thing I thought at that moment. He broke the cycle of them, Jinx will be the "Saviour". And he successfully created her. He was proud in his last moment.
@@that1fangrl Seems more that she was defending herself. Up until that point she was still thinking Silco was going to sell her out to Piltover after overhearing Silco at the statue. Nothing really points to her defending VI, who had yet to prove herself to Jinx at that point, and had also betrayed her, in Jinx's eyes.
@@that1fangrl Yeah like in episode 3, but though she successfully saved Vi this time, it doesn't satisfy her. I love how though she did what she always wanted to do (help her sister) it doesn't satisfy her because she lost another loved one in the process.

Right. "Villain" is basically someone with ideas and plans who wants to make changes. "Hero" is someone who wants to keep things how they are. That's really the fundamental difference
I love that the creators of the show had given us a visual of how Vander and Silco had the same dreams of uniting Zaun to be one but Silco going a whole different route of doing things then having him understand why Vander went his route
You can easily argue Vander abandoned that dream though I mean it's kind of written in the show. Vander put his gloves away, and is a barkeep who basically does nada to advance Zaun It's why Silco (and Sevika) overthrew him. They actually want Zaun to happen at some point
The fact that every aspect of this show is heightened with every new episode is unbelievable. This scene was powerful when it released, but it just kept getting more and more relevant and emotionally destroying. Beautiful writing.
Let's not forget that this entire time, Zaun was under Silco's rule. Which means that he had the statue built. He may have hated Vander for his betrayal, but part of him still loved him like his brother.
"And what do I lose, but problems?" He's trying to rationalize giving up Jinx and yet he still can't...He always knew Jinx made more problems then she solved, he always knew giving her up would be the smartest decisions and yet he kept saying otherwise when faced with the facts shown by Marcus,Sevika, the barons.....he just couldn't do it. Feelings won over logic, family won.... Family always wins in Arcane, for better or worse.

silco never really tried to manipulate Jinx. He really thinks that Jinx burying all of her past is the best thing for her to do because thats what he did for himself. That's all he ever knew. He saw himself in Jinx, and he truly loved her
That's assuming that they do find out who Warwick really is. Given that his identity is a mystery in the main game, it might be that the only people who know are Singed and the audience. That might make it all the more saddening, to be honest; suddenly, this werewolf monster begins rampaging across Zaun, unable to contain its bloodlust, and no one; not even the wolf's own family, can recognize who it once was.
still hits hard seeing this again silco realizing he fked up killing his best friend for no reason, ending up in literally the same position only wanting to protect a daughter. if current silco saw vander before he died, things wouldve been different, they wouldve wanted nothing but to make zaun a better place for these two vi and powder.
0:21 So much character development right here, so much said by yet unsaid. Silco a man raised in squaller, beating down by a out of touch petty council. Who was so consumed by is lost for vengeance and power for his city and from self, suddenly got everything he wanted without a fight from someone he never expected to meet someone from the other side of the bridge who legitimate wants to help both cities prosper and wants to avoid conflict and even gave him what he wanted on agreeable terms. He is a man who suddenly realized all those years of the crimes and the Cincy committed we’re all for nothing
I like that the "it all makes sense now" isn't on what Silco has to do, but on what Vander did all those years ago. He finally understands why his once couragrous and reckless brother became so docile. it wasn't cowardice, it was because he had a family to look after.
I love how at 0:24 you can actually see Jinx’s hair sticking out behind the statue and her move her head just a little bit to show she was actually there all along and not just appearing out of thin air like most shows do, it’s the small details like that that make this show so good!

Would you rather live next to a violent, stinking homeless shelter full of drugs and dangerous maniacs or next to a handy man that could provide you with cheap services and goods? Both sides of that deal go in that direction. A win-win for Jayce. In a word - progress.

I’ve know for at least two months, well after a 3rd time binge watching the season, surprised that RUclipsrs whom reacted to this series seems to miss it
@@shawnabraham7740 LMAO
I just noticed that on my most recent rewatch of the show. It's crazy how much I'm getting out of each watchthrough, even after 20 times.
You can also see scratched "EKKO" on the statue when Silco pours the drink
Silco wasn't just giving up his dream of a free Zaun - his was basically putting his life on the line. He was already on thin ice. The chem barons wanted him out, and Sevika thinks the only thing holding up the cause is Jinx. Sevika had already demonstrated years earlier that she has no patience for weakness. So when word would get out that Silco gave up an independent Zaun because he selfishly wanted to protect Jinx, he must've known it would be over for him.
You’re probably right. Silco was a dead man walking either way.
@@ZanyMei yeah, that explains his overall sadness since the negotiation with Jayce. There was no happy ending either way for him. That little toast feels a lot like a goodbye to everything.
Have you heard the rumor? Silco the coward fled town with his child. They were never seen again.
She’s very much about ‘doing whatever, whenever since the world doesn’t care about her existence, so why should she play by society’s rules?’
If he sold out Jinx, Zaun would get what it always dreamed of, but in doing so he would be giving up on the one enduring principle he held, which was loyalty to those he holds close.
I love the tragedy in this scene: “Is their anything as undoing as a daughter?”
When Jinx hears it, she assumes that Silco thinks the she constantly screws up his plans and schemes, and just sees her as a failure.
"The boy didn't even haggle"
I love this line and it's implications.
That is most certainly not at all implied
Jayce was very arrogant in their exchange, he has become corrupted by that point
He got "scared straight" somewhat after accidentally murdering a child (which Vi simply shrugged off!) but still....
@@alexanderplatypus3664 Fuck no, Corrupted? It's ridiculous to call jayce "arrogant" after his fight with zaun's mech thugs. That's literally one of the scenes where he gets humbled and it affects the rest of his choices.
No more words needed, just Silco admitting that he judged Vander wrongly, cause he was going to do the same in that position. 10/10
True
He eventually understood the reason why Vander gave up on their dreams and made it his priority to keep the people he held most dear safe because that was enough for him.
and more specifically, vi in episode 2.
Everyone says this but idk
I think Silco was still committed to Zaun.
In any case, I'd argue Silco wasn't any better than Vander, because for Vander it wasn't even a guarantee - he would wage a war for naught potentially. Whereas Silco had what he wanted right in front of his face, with most the favourable deal he could get at the expense of getting rid of his problems 'And what do I lose but problems?' and couldn't take it over the fear of losing his daughter, like Vander.

The defeat -and- the hint of sarcasm in Silco's voice when he says "Oh, it all makes sense now, brother." How he knows Vander was doing what was right, that he now knows he'd do the same and still can't let go of that hard, sharp razor's edge of siblingly hatred. I love this character so much.
I like how he pours a drink for Vander and offers a little toast.
I didn't know how this scene could hit any harder, until season 2.
I can't wait to see Silco in s2 as a new voice in Jinx's head.
@@matthewmuir8884 Holy shit I completely took the design of Fishbones for granted. Thanks for the info
This is when Silco realized that he, like Vander, has something to lose.
I think if Vi had grabbed a gun and pointed it at Silco, Jinx would have shot her instead.

You can easily argue Vander abandoned that dream though
I mean it's kind of written in the show. Vander put his gloves away, and is a barkeep who basically does nada to advance Zaun
It's why Silco (and Sevika) overthrew him. They actually want Zaun to happen at some point

Its going to be all the more sad when Warwick begins his rampage in Zaun and Jinx and Vi find out who Warwick actually is.
I think the "Warwick used to be Vander" thing is what will push Vi over the edge and she'll become more like her videogame self ("The Bad Cop")
Silco is a cunning guy with a will of iron and a dream, but at the end of the day he is just a guy playing the game of power, just a guy

if current silco saw vander before he died, things wouldve been different, they wouldve wanted nothing but to make zaun a better place for these two vi and powder.
0:21 So much character development right here, so much said by yet unsaid. Silco a man raised in squaller, beating down by a out of touch petty council.
