Hey all, just an important point that was not mentioned, it appears these are only available in the US upon their release. Not a fan when brands do this given the global reach of the market nowadays, but just wanted to add a comment here. Thanks for watching!
I agree with you Teddy. When any product is available only in the U.S., upon it's I.P.O it's as if we are guinea pigs. Some sort of canary in a coal mine sales experiment. I personally wait to jump in on a watch purchase until it's made the rounds. Time to work out all the bugs. Great video as always.
@@michaelhargis7036 It is just simply a model that only seems to annoy customers in other markets. Many brands are segmented heavily by the market so that is definitely why it is happening. I feel tastes are becoming more homogenous across markets as time goes on. Anyways, thanks for watching, Michael!
Love that light blue option, but live outside the US so no go for me. Would still struggle to pay 900 for a product that will have an extremely high probability of having quality control issues, namely misaligned chapter rings.
I agree with you guys, plus Seiko is very overpriced these days. If you want unique style that will be available world wide then check out tridentwatchco.com. Seen them popping up.
It wouldn't be the sumo anymore, would it? Like the Marinemaster or Pelagos, it's one of those pieces that is married to a larger size. My 6.75 inch wrist was able to support the Sumo very nicely, and I'm a guy who normally only wears 39-36mm.
@@trevbarlow9719 Yes of course, I'm not disputing that this is what the watch is meant to be and therefore I wouldn't change it. You are right. Also, good to know it fits your wrist size - my wrist is also 6.75. Thanks for the info... I might have to purchase one of these after all. 🤑
@@X_BILSON go try one on if you can. Maybe it's cuz I was expecting it to wear too high, but it fit my wrist so nicely, better than my SKX even. It gave me confidence that the Marinemaster would be a good fit for me.
Have the SPB175 gray watch . I have 8in wrist so it fits perfectly. These watches are even more beautiful in person. The blue one is nice but I already have a few blue dials. I like the green too but I have the SPB103J1 already. After I posted this originally I decided I wanted the SPB179 Blue dial as well so it too now adorns my wrist.
A lot of times I like green but I have to tell you out of those three colors the blue is unbelievable. I love the powder blue dial and then the darker Blue Bezel. Great video by the way you guys are all awesome. Ray NJ
Given the lack of value on most Seikos’ these days, its the only brand in my collection that I don’t mind buying from department stores such as Macy’s. They’re always having 25% off sales and then giving another 10% on top of that, on occasion. A 35% discount is appealing for a Seiko.
The size is nice how it is, I tried it and it looks much smaller then you would think! Just a better bracelet and a ceramic bezel by this price point would be perfect and an instant buy for me!
I have a Sumo Gen-1 , Blue. I've had it for almost 10yrs. It has alot of wrist presence. The case design is unique like no other watch i have seen. To me it looks like a space ship from the side profile. That is what really attracted me to it. It gets alot of compliments when i wear it. Since it is a JDM you will probably not see many in the wild. Not unless that person brought or ordered it from Japan. I like that too. Makes it feel exclusive.
I got the green dial a few months ago to wear around the house and weekends. Ending up loving it more than I thought. Wears a lot smaller than you think and is very comfortable. You can definitely negotiate at the AD so don’t let the retail price get in your way.
I've got a sumo, 3d gen, green dial and what I can say is that this is a type of watch you should try. Sumo just hugs your wrist and you get a wear experience as with usual 42 divers. Love this watch, definitely recommend
Hi, Good Day, You are using this watch from last a year, but i am going to get during this week . What do you recommend, it is really a nice and beautiful watch ? I mean its quality oriented piece in terms of finishing and all these. In my country it is available for 700 US$.
@@IRFAN-po5sz hard to say, I know only one general rules - try it on your wrist before you buy. Ergonomic is a really important part of your feelings about the watch
I think your reference to "hollow end links" is referring to the first link being female, receiving the center link, rather than male, with a protruding center link. From the video, it appears that the watch does indeed have solid end links as the are milled from a solid piece, rather than stamped and rolled (hollow).
yea, I agree with you Teddy, that lug to lug is a bit much. I have 6 3/4 inch wrists, and I've found that the most I can pull off is about 50mm. Its a shame because these are really great looking divers. Great video Teddy, Cheers!
Thanks for watching, Chris! I suppose the good news is that Seiko has been releasing some wonderfully sized divers as of late with the SPB143 as an example. Have a good one buddy!
I've had four 6R watches and recently "downgraded" to a 4R36 - NO PRACTICAL DIFFERENCE. I haven't found any ACTUAL difference besides the increased power reserve. They both have lots of variation when resting in different positions, have the same beat rate, hack and hand-wind and both gained anywhere between 10-20 seconds in a day when they were actively used for swimming, hiking etc. The accuracy of my 6Rs varied wildly between +1 sec, +15 sec, -10 sec and +22 sec (on average). My current 4R is +7 sec (on average). There may be a difference on paper and in substituted parts, but in real life use, I see no difference.
The stamped steel clasp is such a turn down on these watches...Seiko has been using the same cheap looking and feeling component forever across its whole sports range. It is time to upgrade it!!!
I have the green sumo as daily.. I'm comfortable with the size on a day to day basis and It wears perfectly when I'm in my wet suit. As a tool watch the size do makes sense..
not sure if you mentioned this in the video (i forgot) but I just noticed the bezels have a more "normal" font than the existing sumo which seems to have bolded numbers. This is nicer imo, bolded numbers look kinda kiddy

I like these special additions, just added a king turtle, but when you said $900 I audibly oofed. I’d push someone to grab a used blue ceramic longines hydro, sunburst dial is amazing and 300m water resistance. I love my prospex seikos but man these prices are walking the line imo
You are totally correct on this, IMHO. These were cool watches at $400 but I don't see anything here at $900 worth opening my wallet for. At that cost I'd keep saving for a second hand Oris Aquis or one of the watches you mentioned.

The sumo does NOT have hollow endlinks, they're solid endlinks.
I think he wanted to say « female » end links, as he also says the end links keep the lug-to-lug wearable.
I could be confused but it felt like you were saying it had hollow endlinks.
He did.
I’ve had my Sumo for several years. The end links are not hollow.
He did. And they don’t. 🤷🏻♀️😅
The bracelet has solid end links, it's just that it had an articulating first mid link.
Hollow end links? These are solid, and you show it as you're saying it.
