Particularly helpful for dealing with the upper strings. Thank you
Your videos are so helpful! I wish I could have made it to Reno this and met you. Thanks for all the help!
Glad the videos are helpful! Reno was great.
Thank you for sharing your process, when I use a strip mute I find using tweezers speeds up installing the mute for me. The papp’s mute is the second thing I get out of my case, but I dislike it being my primary mute when tuning the treble because I always get crossed up when I have to move the mute. I imagine for you that you need to move through each instrument as efficiently as possible so speed is the thing. I don’t think I would enjoy that as much, I love sitting down with a new (to me) instrument and taking a few hours, cleaning the interior, fixing squeaks and sticking parts, correcting the pitch (I do it so much 😂) But thank you and a shout out to Woody from EKU who first introduced me to piano technology and service.
super awesome!! by the way, be careful touching copper wound strings, because i guess over time our finger oils can cause rusting 😮 thank you for sharing this efficient tuning technique!! 💜 it’s also awesome to see another female piano tuner. not very many of those out there
Subscribed from East Greenland!
You are a treasure!! This helped soooo much! You have a new Subscriber. Thankyou so much. 🎶
I do hope there will be more!
Thank you! Yes, I need to do more!
This is AMAZING. Will be trying this technique over the weekend. Kudos and cheers! You have a new subscriber. Thank you.
Glad you liked it!
Hey thank you for sharing your wisdom so generously. You are wonderful.
Thanks Bob! I will post a few more videos very soon.
Thank you very much!
very helpful advices, greetings from Spain.
I just ordered 3 sets of those papps and had no idea how to use them. Thx!!! Now I know!🤪
I’m glad this video helped!
Fantastic video! Thank you
Glad you liked it!
That's a useful video. You are a genius.
Glad you liked it! Thanks!
Awesome video! Thank you
Thanks!
Where did the weather stripping you use for the mute come from? I love the length, that is much more useful than 2 strips.
I got it at Westlake Ace Hardware, but probably Lowes and Home Depot would have it. Brand is MD, called felt weatherseal, 5/8 wide, 3/16 thick, and 17 feet long. For tuning I use 66 inches.
Am from Nigeria. How do i get one
I have an similar techinc. But you’re most perfect! Amazing!
Thanks!
Great Video. What is the App you are using?
That is Reyburn CyberTuner. I’d give it 5 stars.
Im not sure if this has already been asked, but what tuning app is that you are using in this video?
It is RCT, Rayburn Cyber Tuner.
Great video, better impossible thanks. What an efficient way to tune. By the way, what phone application do you use to tune?
Thanks! The phone app is CyberTuner. It is an amazing app. I love it.
Very efficient. Why the importance of lifting the dampers for placing the strip through?
Great question. When the mute strip is inserted, it will displace (squeeze the strings) the strings which then puts extra string pressure against the wedge and tri-chord dampers. With the extra pressure the damper felt can rip or elongate when the note is played. So it’s just a good habit to raise any damper before inserting something between strings.
No aplica para afinaciones Aurales
very helpful. thank you!
Great!
Is there a reason why you didn’t use the felt material for the upper strings ?
Great question. I should redo this video, because at this time I do use felt for the upper strings that do not have dampers. The felt I use is not the typical muting felt because I find it too thick. Instead, I use medium thickness action felt. It comes one inch wide and I cut it in half with a rotary cutter. For most pianos that I tune, I use the papp mute where there are dampers because there is no way to injure the damper felt with the papp mute. If the papp mute doesn't fit between the hammers and the dampers, I make very tidy and small loops with the action cloth strip mute and without touching the damper felt (pull damper as far from the strings as possible) I push the felt down to be even with the top of the damper. When pulling the mute out, I hold down the 2 keys to raise the dampers from the strings and very carefully pull the mute out.
@@lucyurlacher9794 thank you for your timely and knowledgeable response! Take care from South Carolina!
I like your tuning wrench, where can I buy it?
I love this tuning wrench! It’s from Reyburn tools.
Hello from Greenland,
For the notes in the middle with three strings and only mute with the long stripe, if i understand correctely, the unisson is tuned with three strings for the right string correct, as you don’t use extra mute to mute again the left string?
After all this process do you do another fin tuning, checking separately the unissons.
It will take one week with helicopter anf flights to make a prof. Tuner to come here in our village 😢, so i try to understand how to make my first piano tuning. This video helps a lot as it is very clear, step by step.
Is it possible to ask you some online guiding through skype?
I will make another video very soon and explain things in greater detail.
We could do something on Skype , but not in October!
What ETD do you use again?
I use the Reyburn CyberTuner.
Thanks. Nice lever! Is it better than Faulk's lever?
I have not used the Faulk hammer so I really can’t compare. But I do know that I love this one.
Very nice.thanks for sharing.stay well.
Isn’t it confusing to move the tuning hammer back and forth between the pins? I go in order, or otherwise I always end up lost, tuning a different string from the one I’m playing. I then waste time retuning that, or even breaking a string. How do you efficiently keep track of which pin you’re on?
Making sure the hammer is on the correct string is something we have to be constantly alert to. If there is not a change in pitch with tuning hammer movement , stop immediately to make sure the hammer is on the correct pin. Have an image in your mind of the hammer movement pattern. Make eye contact with the pin you will move the hammer too. Make a verbal mantra of hammer movement, as I did in this video. There is a learning curve, but it is worth the time it saves. Good luck, and don’t have any broken strings.
What's that tuning hammer?
It’s from Reyburn Tools. I love it. It is both extremely functional and extremely beautiful.
What tool are you using to fit the felt into the strings?
That tool is a “glue spreader.” I probably got it from Woodcraft.
What application is that
RCT - Reyburn CyberTuner
Muito bom
Very nice. Thanks!
Thank you! I’ll have another video to post soon.
Where buy your tuning hammer?that's interesting! thank you
The tuning hammer is from Reyburn Tools. I love this hammer. It is an amazing tool, and it is beautiful. I highly recommend it.
Why the mask?
Bad immune system. Darn!
I’ve wondered that too.
What program tune ?
I am using CyberTuner.
Thankyou
That mask doesn't help anything.
Sorry but i dont understand why u tune with a "machine" and not with ears!!
I still do some aural tuning and have mentored many in aural skills. I use the “machine”, as you say for the same reasons I use a car and not a horse. I use computers and cell phones more than paper and pen. They don’t replace the brain, but they add to my efficiency.
@@lucyurlacher9794 Why not!!
Our occupation is so wonderful because each of us can choose the route we take to the desired end result. It’s great you love what you do.
@@lucyurlacher9794 I am not criticizing you by asking this but being a tuner myself I find that the tuning is much better by ear. Otherwise your videos are great.
@@Joe-ee6no What is your definition of "better"?
