  • Today Paul Hamblet and I visit Dr David Dearlove's laboratory in Oxford University! Yes a real life Dr and a real life University laboratory !!!! There Dr David puts us through a ramp test, with the power increasing every 3 mins in order to measure our blood glucose and lactate and also to take readings from the gas we exhale. This is used to accurately calculate our Anaerobic Threshold, Lactate Threshold and VO2 Max, and is the most accurate way to set power training zones. I am also using this analysis to help me set the power I'll use on the climbs in La Marmotte.
Dr David provides a huge amount of insight and breaks down the difference between these thresholds and FTP. The results are surprising for me personally, but very interesting.
