A step by step guide for going #FoundationFree. For the longest time, I had a rather unhealthy relationship with foundations. It first started with an #obsession that turned into an #addiction and soon I found myself never leaving the house without a layer of foundation, even to the gym and supermarket. Yup, it was that bad! Foundation gave me confidence for sure but after a while I depended on it as a weapon to never reveal my flaws. I projected my insecurities to others and I was so scared the world will judge me for my bad skin. It's been almost a year trying to fix this relationship with foundation and it's still work in progress. But I've been trying to embrace it and rock foundation-free face and I've noticed many positive changes, not only to my skin but also from a #selflove perspective! I hope this video empowers some of you to honor yourselves🌴❤️
actually i dont really care about my acne being seen ..when i have really bad acne, we can see the acne even when im using full coverage foundation...you can see the texture (of acne) and in my opinion that looks really bad....when i have lots of acne, everytime i cover it, it looks so cakey, so painful lol..thats why i just let it be..im glad that going foundation free doesnt mean concealer free..i really use concealer a lot for my undereye..sometimes it looks so bad, made me looks like zombie..and i dont know how to get rid of it...i mean, i just stay up late for 1 night and it appears for the rest of my life :(
I dont wear any foundation or bb cream or whatever not bc im confident with my skin condition. Its because i live in humid weather. Using foundation is useless. In 2mins, it will just melt anyway. Sucks! :(
just starting foundation free and concealer free today..feeling awkward with all the comments how dead my skin look ,but hey! I don't care~ self acceptance and self love is important 😉
although i personally think that i have the worst skin out of all of my friends who mostly have flawless skin, i still never wear any foundation or concealer. i just go out with sunscreen and my acne skin. tho i sill got a few acnes popping here and there, i've noticed my skin has been a lot more healthy. and thanks to you, liah, i've been taking your advise seriously and i haven't been washing my face with cleanser in the morning for a week and my skin has never been this bouncy in my whole life. it's less oilier too surprisingly. and i think from this state, it's going to improve.
@@umairaki7084 I've heard that washing at night is best. When you sleep your skincare products have sunk into the skin & repairing it. So in the morning your skin is in even better condition, & shouldn't be strip of it's recovering in the morning.
No idea if this is gonna work for you but what worked for me was the oil cleansing method (with Johnson's baby oil but people use other oils too) and applying a turmeric mask a few times a week, I don't get any break outs anymore. I also came to the same conclusion as you, harsh cleansers were ruining my skin, mine used to peel a lot and get irritated like I had rosacea :/
Im so glad you uploaded this video. I have had a similar change of heart regarding my skin. The more “good” products and diverse products I tried, the more unhealthy my skin became with more breakouts and pigmentation. So im now doing a skincare diet and also minimizing the amount/times I wear makeup. it would take me 20min EVERY morning to put on makeup that NO ONE actually cares about. I realized im only harming my skin, wasting time and energy. So i decided my skin is so much more important and that 20min in the morning can be spent for extra sleep 😜. Now im only applying some light weight concealer under my eyes and around the lips/jaw and my skin is feeling so much more comfortable and the healing process after breakouts is faster as well :) im really early in this journey so gonna keep watching your vids for encouragement and maybe i should read that book. I have heard many recommendations and its on Audible so ill try it out. (Btw,If you are short on time for reading books, i highly recommend Audible or other audio book apps📚. I really enjoy it😁) Thanks for the vid, have a fab day! 🌴🌴🌴
Hello Liah. I have been going foundation-free for this whole october. today is my straight-up 14th day of going foundation-free and my skin has been shifting to healthier one. I feel so naked without wearing foundation so I have been holding onto that bad habit for a long time. At first, I was just lazy to wear it because I am a college student who has morning classes so I was like I should stop taking time to get out of my room in order to save more time. That was my first idea. Of course, it is weird at first to cut my everyday habit but now with this decision, I am happy. my hyper-pigmentation was now reduced less than before. Everyone out there who wants to go foundation-free, you CAN DO IT!! Thanks to Liah for making this content. With all these makeup blogs out there about how to wear makeup flawlessly, we girls need this kind of video to remind ourselves not to lose in the process as well - Loves, Yupar
Lots of love xx 🌴
When I was a teen, I had severe acne on my cheeks and forehead (ok basically ma whole face) but when I think back on that time, I couldn’t remember myself being ashamed or sad about it. What I do remember is me looking at the mirror and thinking “that is some bad skin and that acne is so ugly. But it’s ok. Who cares? I don’t have to have nice skin and look pretty. What I need is to ace that school exam tomorrow”. So essentially, I didn’t give a f**k about myself not being pretty. That seems like a bad thing to think about yourself but, when you actually think about it, what is so damn wrong about it??? Outer beauty is not everything, not to mention it is subjected to social beauty standards and personal preferences. I never liked my acne but that’s just me. The important thing is that I liked myself and I still like myself, no matter what my skin looks like.
you're awesome. i'm far from the most confident person, but i really think people should consider that you don't have to be pretty? like, people see not that pretty people every day, you wouldn't really stand out as the lone average looking person in the room or whatever.
xiahkixiri yeah I feel like we women especially are kinda obligated to think "I am the most beautiful princess in the world" and when we can't do that, we must be unconfident and insecure. But when you actually think about it...that is some huge narcissistic shit to think about yourself...Unless you're Blake Lively or something (i love her she's ma goddess). It probably goes too far to think you're ugly because, one, you're probably not ugly and, two, it's only natural for people to rate their own faces a bit higher than what the beauty standards might suggest lol But we don't have to let the fact that our skin's not perfect or certain facial features aren't that pretty bother us too much. There're so many other things we can be proud of ourselves instead of the biological stuff like face and height.
That's true. I used to wear foundation to step out of the house. Not because of acne but because of my canes scars. Later using acids my skin got so much better that I didn't see the point of using anymore. Skincare changes everything and is the best option.
That's pretty true. Accutane, Aloe Vera face cream, brightening cream and masks, moisturising masks, pore cleanser, drying cream for spot treating acne. They all do wonders for my skin but add up to be pretty costly for my budget especially since 95% of the stuff are things I need to apply to my skin on a daily basis to maintain it. Although my skin is so much clearer than it was a couple years ago when all I did was wash my face. The only things I'm still concerned with on my face are a couple acne scars, dark under eyes (idk if they're treatable though), and some freckles/moles/whatever they're called.
Yes but I hope you understand that less is actually better. The more treatments you get, actually, the worse your skin can get. Sometimes nothing is better.
iristhegoddess there are a lot of skincare products that will help with scarring once your skin has healed. Don't worry and (this probably sounds cheesy but) always remember your outer beauty is not important what's important is being beautiful on the inside! The right people love you for who you are not what you look like.
ohhhhh i love this video! personally it doesn't apply to me because i don't use makeup but i love this video to tell people who do! love your videos so much liah! and never stop doing making it!! ilyyyy #notificationsquad #palmpalmfam 🌴🌴❤❤❤
I want to thank you for speaking up about this topic. I grew up with bad skin and have been struggling ever since my teen years. My skin is still not very good now that I'm in my 30's, but thankfully it isn't as bad anymore (largely thanks to your videos on oily skin >< ). Us people who struggle with bad skin are such a minority (or at least where I am), so it's just really nice to hear this motivation from someone like you who understands the struggle and how big a deal it is to go foundation free. I made the decision to go foundation free a couple of years ago (i went out with sunscreen, tone up cream and looose powder instead), i just went cold turkey. It was such a big and brave leap for me because I kinda assoc my self worth with my looks .___. But you know what, nobody even noticed! And it felt like such a victory because I went from being foundation-dependent to just using it at my leisure. It is as you said, we stopped letting makeup control us :) Thank you for your videos, Lia Yoo. You really saved my skin, and I know a lot of people will say the same.
Kudos to you!! Especially when your Korean society is so judgemental. I'm quite lucky that I never had acne growing up and can go out with just sunblock and concealer for my dark circles. But damn your bare face is so much better than mine
+Rachel Lee yeah I can totally understand the Koreans being quite harsh on expecting everyone to look flawless. But hey! Setting a new standard here :p
Liah Yoo I recently read about the movement started by girls in Korea to protest against the harsh societal pressure of indirectly demanding girls to wear makeup. I’m so glad that even before the movement you had the heart to make us feel liberated!
I'm glad that now I'm 22 I never even care to wear heavy foundation or even covering up my acne scar. I have an acne prone and oily skin, really dark eye circles, acne scars, pigmentation, and so on. I once had this really nightmare when I had acne all over my face and I know I need to stop using everything. I even stop using my BB cream. After my skin back to the normal state, that was when I decided to wear my BB cream again, and only days where I had to go to my campus or going out with friends, not even care when I went to the supermarket. Now, I've graduated and I know I need to jump into the professional world where people need to careful while presenting her/himself, I've started to think to learn to do makeup (full coverage, full eye makeup), but I'm lucky that you drop this video! Moderation is everything, now I believe it myself that I don't need to do high/full coverage makeup even when I'm ready to work in the professional world.
7:36 there's no studies about makeup damaging your skin because makeup companies are of course not going to fund studies like that... and they'd be interested in discouraging or suppressing that kind of research
It doesn't mean that other institutions and researchers who have means and money would not fund such studies or do these kinds of studies themselves and there are definitely parties who are interested in selling you other stuff instead of foundations that argues against the use of foundation. There are always different sides for the same issue.
Liah, this is a really nice video. We all know how stereotypes are controlling our society. You have a really beautiful skin. I was bullied really bad because of some millia on my forehead and around the eyes. I really understand how somebody feels having severe acne. At the beginning was painful, but I learned to love myself and understand makeup wasn't the solution. I changed the way I saw myself in the mirror and tried to remember everyday I was more than a pretty or ugly face. After some treatments and changing my skincare to mainly korean products, my face looks much better, younger and healthier. I barely wear foundation, I actually don't use it unless an important event. I do use the same Maybelline concealer you use for under eyes and few spots, and my tinted moisturizer that gives me SPF protection and some healthy glow, no coverage, and I love this daily no makeup style. So, thank you for sharing your story, you are not the only one and it is amazing other girls hear our stories to feel better! Xoxo
iamgem Even the people around you everyday, like at school or work. I recently had an unexplained breakout, but not everyone took it well since I always had clear skin. Needless to say, it was A NIGHTMARE! I was constantly told about how I have acne. I MEAN I KNOW I HAVE A MIRROR.
I loved this video because of how relatable it is. Thank you for this❤️ My college years I wore foundation every single day. I could not leave my house without it. Mostly because I have a lot of freckles and wanted to cover them and also to cover blemishes here and there. But now I’ve been foundation free for almost a year and I’m loving it. Took a lot of courage to own my freckles but I did it. Good luck to everyone starting there foundation free journey❤️
I used to be wearing a corrector, concealer and then foundation on top of acne. My face always looked cakey and removing the makeup was further painful. I stopped doing this a month ago. I feel much better and skin feels great. :) Thanks Liah for doing this.. :) :)
This is so relatable! I had always gotten compliments on my good skin til my late teens, and then my skin just went chaotic due to stress of starting uni/diet etc and I was completely dependent on wearing a heavy bb cream every single day just to feel okay. Especially within the Asian culture, I got so many comments and "advice" on how to get better skin and that definitely didn't help at all! It was very much a mental conditioning that I could only face other people, even my parents, when I had makeup on and the more I wore makeup everyday, the stronger the reinforcement I made for myself. I think it was only after being on medication for my acne that I started feeling comfortable with just concealing my spots and redness (and also I was lazy spending so long putting it on everyday). I also realise it's such a psychological thing, because now even if the concealer doesn't cover all of my hyperpigmentations, I still feel so much more comfortable just knowing I have some on. I try to be concealer free whenever I can just so I can gradually break the reinforced habit. It is definitely challenging, but slowly, I'm hoping one day I'll be comfortable with my skin again! Thank you for bringing up this topic Liah!
I truly know how you feel. I used to wear lots of make up to cover up acne, acne scar and skin imperfection... but around last year, i started to paying more attention to my skin care routine. double cleansing, hydrating my skin properly, wearing sunblock and avoiding harsh products. it's still far from perfect but i have more confident in letting my face bare especially on weekends. way to go Liah!
Thank you for sharing! It helped me to re-evaluate my relationship with foundation (and makeup in general!). As an aside, a ketogenic diet (but specifically cutting out sugar and simple carbs) has been the biggest game changer for my skin! I never break out anymore unless I use a product I'm allergic/sensitive to.
thank you for uploading this video and educating us on how important it is on recognizing our own self and slowly build up our self esteem and confidence. On a normal day, I would put on my BB cushion, blush and eyeliner. But sometimes I go bare-face on the weekend especially if I’m only going out to get groceries or having a quick lunch with my hubby. I don’t care going out without make up at all, until a few of my friends (at different times) were commenting and asking me why I did not put my make up on when I was going out having a quick lunch with them. They are very close friends of mine so I thought that would be ok with them but I was so wrong. They felt like I wasn’t respecting them when I met with them without any make up on and that they thought I was lazy. I have to clarify one thing is that, other than no make up, I was very tidy looking, took my shower, blow dry my hair and dress normally when I met with them. I didn’t put my make up on cos I don’t want to overwashing my face. I hate having make up on when I am home so I will take it off and cleanse my face as soon as I get home after the quick lunch and I like to wash my face again before I go to bed ensuring my face is clean when I hit the hay. Anyhow, now I make sure I put on my make up when I see these people. I’d never thought about this would have come across as disrespectful at all, but I guess because they are close friends of mine so they are comfortable telling me how they feel about it.
I felt so connected to this, I was so struggling with the idea of "perfection" and obsessed with masking myself with tons of foundation and concealer, and while trying so many way to tackle my acne and hyper-pigmentation issues. The process of leaving others' judgements behind your back is really hard, I did the same thing similar to your way of gradually taking sometime in the week go makeup-free, and that eventually make me right now could completely foundation free!!!!! I can't say more about how it make my inner-self changed tremendously, I started loving myself more and acknowledge the importance of inner&natural beauty!
Hello Liah! I've been trying out your ways & also some of the products you used for the past months. I cut down my skincare routine as well as stop washing my face in the morning & only wearing foundation like 1-2x a week. The results is SO GOOD. I use the Banila Co Purity to wash off my makeup & sunscreen, Glossier Milky Jelly & sometimes the Cosrx Low PH cleanser when it's that time of the month. I stopped using toner & essence & sheet masking & even serums. As for moisturizers, I rotate between the Cosrx Snail Cream & Belif Aqua Bomb, plus 2 drops of rosehip seed oil. I also use the EltaMD UV Clear SPF 46 but I feel like sometimes that gives me tiny whiteheads. I still have acne occasionally but only at the same spot, I don't know why though. So yeah, I trust you & your passion towards skincare, I love the way you explain & break down each ingredients in each products. THAT REALLY HELPED A LOT. I think we all know you really do your research! Very informative. As that being said, I've been wanting to try out the Heimish All Clean Balm, bcs it's cheaper & you get a bit more than the Banila Co. I read all of the reviews & I haven't found one negative reviews on it. So that makes me wanting to try it out more, the only thing that stopped me from doing that is bcs of the ingredients, which I checked up on COSDNA. Also, there's coconut in it. I tend to steer clear of anything with coconut oil (I haven't tried at all actually) bcs I read somewhere that it can break you out & clog pores. What do you think of it? xx
I don't know, Liah, there are a lot of people in work or networking settings who will judge you on your skin, even if they don't realize they're doing it. :'< As you mentioned, it's recommended to wear foundation at important meetings, etc. I think it's important to be learn self-love and to cut judgmental people out of our lives, but we must also balance it with our very entrenched, judgmental work culture. For some of us, finding a good foundation can be the different between getting a job or not. It's like people with facial hair and shaving -- keeping it neat is important in many settings. I don't like it, and I think it's slowly changing, but people really do notice, even if only subconsciously. v_v On a happier note, tinted suncreen and BB creams with SPF are great options for going foundation free. You can also sheer out your existing foundation with a compatible sunscreen and avoid having to buy a new product!!
Hi Liah! Just want to say thanks for doing this video. I’ve been watching your videos for a super long time, cos you’re someone I really can relate to. I’ve been insecure about my skin for about 8 years now. Sounds crazy, but when I was in secondary school (12-16) I would first start off with tiny amounts of concealer. If I got a pimple, I would not want to go school. Yes, it was that bad! Fast forward a few years, I went to university and my skin became worse. I had a lot of cystic acne which resulted in ice-pick scars. I also had a lot of problems with hyper-pigmentation. My friends would tell me my flaws are not noticeable, but to me they were so ugly. My insecurity ballooned up, and I became reliant, addicted to foundation. Today, I have decided to try going foundation free for a week. Had enough of being tied down by my insecurity! Thank you for being such an encouragement Liah!
your videos were giving me a great enlighten Liah, thank you so much.. I actually have the same experience with acne, even my friend said that I was cursed because of the large acnes (and he said that in front of everyone while laughing). I have tried every recommended-dermatologist, seeing routines from a lot of youtubers even laser treatments and doing facial [it hurts soo much] but it didn't work at all, therefore I tought that only foundation and high coverage BB cream which can help me, but then I learned that my skin is dehydrated (from your video), therefore I started to be carefree about what people said, going bare-faced, started to hydrate my skin and stop harassing my skin with facial treatments. As the result I got no large inflamated-acnes again. And now I'm still trying to fade my acne scars and search for a good sunscreen [since your recommendations are hard to get in Indonesia :''')]. Anyway thank you again Liah, you're my life-saver.. xD
I didnt started till i was 21! I'm a skincare addict than a makeup addict, my basic makeup was just eyebrows and lipstick but now i've gradually moved to foundation, concealer and eyeshadow. I can never leave my house without lipstick due to my pale and ugly lip colour but i can give up the rest!
wow i came to watch this video expecting it would be a video about how to apply makeup without foundation. like all the beauty RUclipsrs does such as looking for an alternative for foundation or doing ten steps skincare just to go foundation free(not bad if you really wanted to do that). tbh i never thought it would be about the obsession of having perfect “mask” of a skin and the addiction of wearing foundation to cover oneself to the point of being scared to show who u really are underneath even when no ones paying attention or scrutinies us. and here it is, liah yoo with guide on how to have a healthy relationship with your foundation without having to cake on foundation to go out the house and talking about spending those extra minutes for something more valuable and productive. kudos to u liah.
This is a great video. Recently I've been trying to wear less makeup wearing just mineral powder. My skin is the worst it's been completely blown out and really cystic. Unlucky for me majority of people I meet or is around me will feel the need to judge me come up to me and say something. Even when I'm out to just buy a meal or something. For me because of all the negativity that I find difficult to remove myself from because many are family and work mates it's very hard to pass the hurdle of accepting no one cares
Yeah, unfortunately a lot of the people we are forced to deal with *do* care. It'd be nice to remove all the negativity from our lives, but unfortunately that is not practical or feasible for most people. I hope you find some peace soon, deary.
Julia Tran I know it's hard, but I'm sure you can do it step by step. Just take it easy and always remember you're beautiful no matter what they say. I know this might come empty since we don't know each other, but I can tell from your comment that you're a genuine person. So don't let those people put you down just because of your appearance, bring yourself up because you are you and that what makes you special.
I hope you find comfort in knowing that you're not alone. I myself am frustrated at times emotional bcus of my negative environment but I will not stop and I hope you won't stop seeking whats best for you. I'm rooting for you! ☺️
I agree! The whole "nobody cares" thing is kinda bullshit, because they really freaking do, especially my family. That's why I put on foundation, so they'll shut up. Luckily my skin is healing so after a while longer I can actually be comfortable foundation free without feeling gross and people telling me I don't take care of myself.
I feel like skin condition is better too when I go foundation free look. I've been going this for a year. Then I realize how my skin is more comfortable when I saw your video Liah. Based on many people experiences, go foundation free absolutely can improve your skin condition as long as you always concern about it. But for me, after I decided to get rid of my foundation routine, I tend to learn more about skin health, nourishment, habits, and even sometimes I learn about how the compounds works on our skin too. There are so many good things after I decided it😊👍
i regret starting to use foundation so much. i started buying foundation that i didnt even need when i was younger and wanted to use what the beauty vloggers were using. it gave me acne i never even had, if i could go back a few years, i would have never done that! :( now as my skin is healing, ive been spot concealing with concealer and it feels way better. would you recommend the glossier concealer for sensitive skin? i want to try it but i dont want to risk breaking out x
Me too. I started wearing foundation not because I needed it or I felt that it made me look better, I started for the stupidest reason: the other girls in school were using makeup. And that began my more than 10 yrs battle with acne. Combined with my poor knowledge of skincare it then turned into worse sensitive skin. I’m still having trouble because every time I put on foundation I feel 10 times prettier, but it limits me so much. I can’t get hair in my face bc it will stick, I constantly worry about whether doing something will ruin my makeup, I can’t sweat, I’m always scared of something touching my face, I’m scared of intimate moments where people feel disgusted about how much paint I have on my face. I really hate this.
yes! I used to always wear foundation to work, but now I go foundation free - it was hard at first because I had redness and acne all over, but going foundation free not only made it more hassle free, it also allowed my skin to breathe (especially since work can be anywhere from a 4 hour shift to a 10 hour shift- so having makeup on for so long really does clog your pores)!
Congrats Liah on going foundation free some days!!! Thanks for the video. It helps remind us all that we eventually don't need makeup to cover ourselves up. We are all beautiful inside and out. We just have to be believe and remember that. I've always worn foundation going out ever since I was a pre-teen and have noticed over the years how damaged my skin was and how uneven my skin tone was as well. It was only when I was introduced to the Korean skin care routine did my skin revitalized. I don't use any Korean skin care products but use the 10 step as a guideline to better skin. I've been doing this religiously since May and now have no problems going foundation free while running errands or on weekends. Now for my foundation routine when I go to work etc... It's only sheer coverage because I feel like my skin can shine through still and be confident in it. I want my skin to eventually shine through and be completely foundation free!!! Maybe next year but I will certainly keep at it!!! 😁😁😁
Liah Yoo 리아유 I also wanted to say and I should have said it in my first comment to you is that you are trying beautiful. You don't need all that makeup. Your skin care routine will take care of your skin. It looks flawless to me. Thank you for always keeping us informed about healthy skin and how to maintain it. 😀💕💕💕
You are one of my biggest role models. I've been wanting to go foundation free since Michelle Phan mentioned it but I didn't think my skin I looked as perfect as hers without foundation. This video just helped A LOT. Thank you.
Hi Liah, I really enjoyed watching this video, and agreed with many of the things you said. However, in some contexts, I just don't think it's true that people don't care. I live and work in Korea, and the few times I have gone to work without make-up on, people were so shocked, and kept asking whether I was sick and telling me that I look SO MUCH better with make-up on. Even my students, who are children and teenagers, notice and comment on my appearance when I choose to wear less/no make-up. I think that it is a particularly difficult context for going foundation-free. T.T
queencara25 same here to me. I live in Vietnam. Even when I wear nude lipstick, so many of my co-worker ask me whether I am sick or there is something bad/sad happened to me. :D However, let try day by day. Maybe starting with no foundation but yes a little bit of concealer ^_^
It's very much a social thing and going foundation free can actually help your makeup look more natural! Like mentioned above, using proper skincare and natural finish concealers strategically can still brighten your skin and conceal any needed areas!
I don't care its from almost a year ago. When I first started breaking out, my mom decided that the best thing would be to introduce me to foundation. I slathered foundation, concealer and powder on my face every morning(I was 14 back then now 15). It took me like 20 minutes. When my acne was at its worst this spring, my friend at school said I should stop wearing foundation because it looks even worse. I decided to listen to her and everybody said I look better...It also helped my self-confidence a little( I've been struggling with it for as long as I can remember). I wouldn't say it cleared my skin tremendously so far, but I finally started a good skincare routine(with your advice ❤) and I'm gonna try differin soon and it got better. I guess I just suck at make up so much. At least I can put on mascara normally.
I have been following Liah's channel for only a month now and I will say this, LIAH YOO HAS HELPED ME GO FOUNDATION FREE. I've religiously followed her advice on using less products on the face and focusing more on Hydrating and Moisturizing your skin. I have PCOS and my skin breaks out soooo bad for the last 3 years. I watched Liah's video and I just use 4 products. My skin is so much better than ever. Now, whenever I go out, I just do my routine, slap on sunscreen, I even have a bucket hat for extra protection hahaha, and I just use concealer. Thank you Liah!
I started being foundation free when I saw how it was making me more breakouts and I didn't felt too comfortable with that kind of "mask". I wanted to go out without that mask so I decided to finally order some sunscreen. I was waiting for it to ship and the day it came it was like the day for me finally letting go of the foundation and be a lot more comfortable with myself (well, maybe sometimes I just hide my spots with hair but only when someone is looking at me really hard) Now I am using concealer on my spots only when I go to some kind of event. So yeah, that's my story and I'm happy for you Liah to feel comfortable with your skin and thank you for sharing those tips and experiences 🌴🌴🌴
Yesss..im so agree with u. I have been experiencing this foundation free thing for almost a year and it definitively helps my acne-prone skin to look even better. I followed your skincare steps (use facial wash only at night, toner(sometimes), moisturize and use sunscreen) and im so amazed by the difference i see after just few days. Its truly amazing guys! You helped me a lot in making my skin looks a lot better. I tried almost every skincare products out there but nothing's worked until i found ur channel. Thanks a lot liah 😚😚😚
I full-heartedly agree! I started going makeup free more and more often about 4-5 months ago until I started not wearing makeup almost ever! It is so liberating and, as you stated, it really gives you a new perspective on how you look and how you FEEL you look. All of a sudden, I began to LOVE not wearing foundation haha. I now wear some occasionally if I feel like being more put-together and brighter, but I otherwise either wear nothing but sunscreen or I add in a little bit of concealer/foundation to spot-correct any redness I may have. 😉 Thank you for sharing this video and encouraging everyone to embrace their natural beauty! 😘
I really want to go (almost) makeup free but i have dark circles and my eyebrows are super thin so i feel the need to fill them in so i feel like i can't
I never wore foundation, only concealer sometimes even though I always had some acne, so I'm happy that I didn't fall into that addiction. But I know there's SO many people who should listen to this video!
Love this video! Your skin is flawless! 😍 I’ve struggled with acne since I was a teenager. As an adult I’m so self conscious. My pores are big and I have little indents from old pimples i popped because I was young and didn’t know better. Blackheads, Whitehead’s and oily skin. I’ve felt so overwhelmed for so long spending money on products that never worked. Been watching your videos for about a week now and I’ve learned so much! Thank you Liah!
This has nothing to do with the video but I just thought I'd suggest a video topic that could help a lot of people out. I was wondering if you could make a video on malassezia, it's a skin disease that looks a lot like acne, so much so that many doctors misdiagnose patients with it. There isn't a lot of information about it online and you have a big following so more people could find out about it. Thank you in advance, take care!
Robert Hall hello! I'm going through the EXACT same thing and this blog by someone going by the initials "f. c." has really helped me to get the malassezia under control! This person has a seriously comprehensive and thorough article including what chemical compounds feed the malassezia and even has a list of products that won't trigger it! Many of his other articles also resonate with Liah's skincare beliefs like how urea and occlusives like petrolatum ARE SAFE and beneficial. Here's the link to the article targetted at malassezia: simpleskincarescience.com/pityrosporum-folliculitis-treatment-malassezia-cure/ I really highly recommend and hope it helps you!!!
Malassezia (pityrosporum) folliculitis is commonly misdiagnosed as acne vulgaris. Malassezia a.k.a fungal acne.. and iam sure liah did video about how to treat fungal acne. Sorry for my bad english 😊
You are so inspiring ♡ thank you for this. I love all of your content. So glad to be a part of the palm palm fam! 🌴 Love you Liah and very proud of you!
Dear Liah, Thank you for encouraging being foundation free! I'm so self conscious, and hearing someone encourage me to embrace my skin rather than hide it means SO MUCH. & In regards to positive affirmations - I'd just like to encourage any of you to give them a go. A little over a year lots of positive affirmations were coming up across my social media. Throughout each day I would read them, and after a few months really made a difference. Soon I found these positive thoughts would come to my brain automatically, and start balancing out the negative beliefs I had about myself. It's still an ongoing battle, but I really reccomend anyone giving reading positive affirmations a go! Write down some for yourself to read each day and stick them beside your monitor. Follow some positive blogs & such. See if it helps! - alex
I stopped using the foundation a year ago. I had so many breakouts, my super oily skin was so irritated, red and with so many acne spots and even the dermatologists just didn't know what to do to save my skin. One night, I got home and washed my face. I realized that I had a bad relationship with foundation. Foundation should help me become more confident and not be the only thing that made me feel beautiful. So I threw away all my expensive makeup products. The first week after this was terrible, because I had to leave with only sunscreen and I tried to use my long hair to hide my face (YES, I DID THIS!). Then I began to realize that my friends, family, and people in general didn't care about my skin. They talked to me and not to my skin. It was what I was inside (my emotions, opinions and feelings) that they wanted. That was liberating! So I started try to understand my body to fix what was wrong. I discovered that I was allergic to milk and that it caused acne and redness. I cut the milk, sugar and the snacks. In three days I got what couldn't be achieved with 5 years of treatment: the redness disappeared. I learned that I needed to moisturize the skin and I was surprised to see how the skin responded quickly if I treated it with the right products. Today, I still have some blemishes, but I'm very happy! I think wearing makeup should be just an option and not the only thing that makes you feel beautiful.
Thanks Liah! Go foundation-free for 2 weeks and my skin becomes so clear! I think my skin is happy that I finally let her to show her true beauty and it now even shines! And yes, no one really even care
i don't mind going foundation free but white cast from my mineral sunscreen uggghhh how do i combat that?!?! i will not wear chemical or even half chemical (chemical sunscreen is coming no where near me) half mineral sunscreen and i only wear spf 40 and higher and mineral sunscreens higher than spf 40 leave a very visible white cast or make my skin ashy only reason i wear foundation during the day otherwise i would LOVE to go foundation free.
jana m that unfortunately looks very obviously orange on me when I apply bronzer all over tried it once and will never do that!! I now keep my bronzer just to me outer perimeter! But it's the center of my face that looks ashy with sunscreen so that sucks
I rarely comment on social media things but this videos of you make me wanna share my experience about my foundation free routine im 22 and i rarely wear foundation and also cushion only thing that i do in the morning is just putting sunscreen on my face and other people always asking why i have no pimples and also the acne scar so the thing for me is whenever you felt uncomfortable and insecure you have to cheer up yourself you are beautiful no matter what the more you put the thing to conceal your imperfection spot the longer it will take time to recover!
you are the greatest inspiration for me ever! i've changed so much in my life because of you and this help me a lot. still fighting with acne, but i'll manage it with your support! thanx for everyting, Liah!
I never wear foundation but I use bb creams or tinted sunscreens from time to time when my skin is acting up. Sometimes I just cover spots and that's it. I'm used to go "barefaced". The problem is when I get nasty pustules in that time of the month. How to cover that up? 😭 Another problem is that since my skin is not used to foundations, if I wear them no matter which one, I break out :(.
Hezlin Aryani yeah, i double cleanse. I have sensitive skin so I only use hypoallergenic products, when it comes to BB or tinted sunscreen and it doesnt break me out.
No i use cleansing balms and foam washes, I love skin care stuff so have a big collection of that too, it gets used more than the makeup since i feel uncomfortable wearing it to work.
Honestly it isnt about having clear skin, its about having enough confidence to go out without any makeup on my face. I’ve been struggling with cystic acne for years and even until now its an ongoing battle. I tried using all anti-acne products that i could get my hands on and covered my face w foundation and concealer. After spending a month living by the beach and traveling, i didnt have time to put on any makeup and my skincare only consisted of toner, a gel cream and sunblock and i swear, it made a HUGE difference on my skin. I stopped breaking out and only have minor bumps from clogged pores. I only wear sunblock and at most, a tinted moisturizer to conceal dark spots but thats it. Promise that although it will take a while for your skin to get used to not wearing makeup, it will really thank you after a while.
Thank you liah this video reminds me and make me wanna go back to my usual and old self. Never really worn foundation until I worked for the company I'm currently at. As I am in a corporatw world I need to present myself neatly and I can't do this without foundation so I'm currently using foundation everu M-F now but only apply a sheer amount & I don't go to full coverage foundations. After watching this I realized I'm losing myself where I usually go to work with just sunscreen and lip tint. I'm really thankful to you, I don't really care what others has to say on me ever since because they always say something anyway but I almost lost that after wearing foundations for the last 5months. Pls keep on inspiring us. 🌴🌴🌴 Love from 🇵🇭
I love you Liah! The steps I take in my skincare and makeup routine are partly because of the things I learned and picked up from your channel. Recently just started my channel and I hope to be able to educate people about taking care of skin too, since it has been quite a long journey for me as well. ❤️
Congrats to u my dear. Im so proud of u. Ur skin looks so much better than u think. And ur right nobody really cares. Ur so vivacious, u dont need makeup. Ur beautiful, luving, n kind. Thats so much more important. Luv ur videos.
Honestly this is the perfect video for my friend who can't go anywhere without makeup. I'm definitely going to check out that book and get one for this friend 💚 Also, I've never wanted to wear foundation bc I wanted my skin to be good enough that I didn't need foundation, still working on it though 😂😂
I think I'm currently concealer-addicted. I've always used a lighter coverage foundation and spot concealed. But now I refuse to go anywhere without concealer.
Hi Liah, I just wanted to say that as a relatively new follower, I find your videos both informational and aspirational! You give off a very healthy, vibrant and positive glow and that is what I want to radiate towards others as well (both through actions and with healthier skin). Please keep up the good work!
When I was 15 I used foundation for the first time ( it was only for one week though) , I had acne at the time and i never knew that my confidence could change just because I was using foundation or not, I stopped after one week because thoughts like " I'm so ugly without makeup " were becoming more frequent and then I realized it's better to waste my money on something to help my skin than something to just cover up the problem , that's when I started to take care of my skin seriously and that's when my acne disappeared, my skin totally changed and I'm so happy I've been acne free for so long I don't even know, i changed my diet, tried different skincare , learned about igredients , i cleared up my skin alone ( the derma I was going before was a waste of money), thanks to Liah, Skincarescience and internet I feel much comfortable and happy with my skin 💗
+Liah Yoo that kind of skin is not perfect enough? Wow, you have such a high standard. If I had your skin, I wouldn't even have a second thought to be foundation free asap. If you have rosacea, melasma, acne scars (a real scar, not just a dot) and you go foundation free, now that's really something. #justsaying
you're the best 😍 thank you for empowering us to respect and love ourselves by taking care of our skin in healthy ways! your videos and hard work have helped me sooo much, Liah.
Liah, out of all of those *caterpillar* breakouts that you have, I will still ask you out to be my 1 and only :") 💓 I may have followed Michelle Phan from around 2008, but I would rather choose you over her. :"]
Stay healthy, Liah! Thank you so much for all the encouraging words and all the topic you always brought to me is definitely change mylife step by step (about the skin and the food and the make up) and all the fun too. Cheers from 🌴 fam!
Hi liah! I usually agree with you, but I think this time i have to say that this video can cause misunderstanding and be seen as foundation-shaming people. I dont see anything wrong with people wanting to wear foundation to cover imperfectness. Just like how we love experimenting with eye makeup and color makeup on our face, it is the same with foundation. As long as we do it moderately and still can be comfortable not wearing any foundation, it is still healthy. I have to admit that some people are too dependent on make up and it creates more insecurities, though. In that case, then yes, I agree with the message you’re trying to convey in this video. Hopefully people don’t take it the wrong way. :)
+Fransisca Devita I totally understand! That’s why I stated with sharing my experience with “unhealthy relationship” with foundation. I used to apply foundation because I felt like I NEED to rather than a choice. It wasn’t fun at all. But now that I fixed the relationship I reach for foundations occasionally with joy!
Me: *never uses foundation *
Me: *watches anyways *
+sooyoungfanclub Aw sweetheart!!
+Liah Yoo 리아유 can never miss any of your videos!!~
Hahaha same here...
Mee too
Same😂😂😂😹😹
A step by step guide for going #FoundationFree.
Liah Yoo 리아유 kuddos girl!!!!
the power of mind!!!:-)
Liah Yoo
actually i dont really care about my acne being seen ..when i have really bad acne, we can see the acne even when im using full coverage foundation...you can see the texture (of acne) and in my opinion that looks really bad....when i have lots of acne, everytime i cover it, it looks so cakey, so painful lol..thats why i just let it be..im glad that going foundation free doesnt mean concealer free..i really use concealer a lot for my undereye..sometimes it looks so bad, made me looks like zombie..and i dont know how to get rid of it...i mean, i just stay up late for 1 night and it appears for the rest of my life :(
Liah Yoo 리아유 is this video taken foundation free?
Thank U Liah 🌷
I dont wear any foundation or bb cream or whatever not bc im confident with my skin condition. Its because i live in humid weather. Using foundation is useless. In 2mins, it will just melt anyway. Sucks! :(
Oh dang, yeah. I'm very oily so my skin melts away the foundation no matter if it's humid or dry out. x'D
When you have oily skin and live in a humid environment 😹
Hey guys. Use powder. It helps the products to not slip and slide as fast
Minn Rojas does not help at all for me. Cause i sweat a lot. Its 35-38 degree celcius all the time :(
I live in Singapore and it is HOT AF rn, like above 30 degrees celcius Zz I don't wear makeup much though haha
just starting foundation free and concealer free today..feeling awkward with all the comments how dead my skin look ,but hey! I don't care~
self acceptance and self love is important 😉
although i personally think that i have the worst skin out of all of my friends who mostly have flawless skin, i still never wear any foundation or concealer. i just go out with sunscreen and my acne skin. tho i sill got a few acnes popping here and there, i've noticed my skin has been a lot more healthy. and thanks to you, liah, i've been taking your advise seriously and i haven't been washing my face with cleanser in the morning for a week and my skin has never been this bouncy in my whole life. it's less oilier too surprisingly. and i think from this state, it's going to improve.
Jung Krystal if you didnt wash ur face in morning then when would you?
@@umairaki7084 night?
I really enjoy it😁)
Thanks for the vid, have a fab day! 🌴🌴🌴
+Yejin Kim I love audible too! And thanks for sharing your story🌴💕
+Janyce Son
Wow. You're amazing. And I mean that. Stay this way and keep being awesome!
liah in the beginning you're basically describing me at the moment,
Tbh Michelle is hella rich now. She probably gets treatments done on top of her skin care routine. No hate I love her but it's probably true.
She did. :)
Yes but I hope you understand that less is actually better. The more treatments you get, actually, the worse your skin can get. Sometimes nothing is better.
You’re 💯 right
Yas girl! I don’t use foundation all the time rn. I usually wear it in interviews or parties.
+rubie martinez Yeah it def photographs better 🤗
Liah Yoo 리아유 I hardly wear it on my RUclips videos too! I think I should do a little bit though 😅
+Jina Lee 🙌🏼
I really wish I didn't start using foundation. It's what started my acne breakouts and now my face is ruined T,T
Aww babe, your skin can heal
Thanks
iristhegoddess there are a lot of skincare products that will help with scarring once your skin has healed. Don't worry and (this probably sounds cheesy but) always remember your outer beauty is not important what's important is being beautiful on the inside! The right people love you for who you are not what you look like.
iristhegoddess oh my god yes i regret it so much i just feel like i need it
+Starry Sky's652 lol cheesy but it's true thanks for the reminder
ohhhhh i love this video! personally it doesn't apply to me because i don't use makeup but i love this video to tell people who do! love your videos so much liah! and never stop doing making it!! ilyyyy #notificationsquad #palmpalmfam 🌴🌴❤❤❤
Xoxo
Liah you of all people should know how blunt Asian people are especially when it's family. They will flat out tell you how disgusting your acne is.
amen sistaa.. they have no filter
iamgem Even the people around you everyday, like at school or work. I recently had an unexplained breakout, but not everyone took it well since I always had clear skin. Needless to say, it was A NIGHTMARE! I was constantly told about how I have acne. I MEAN I KNOW I HAVE A MIRROR.
TheRedLeaf I'm a guy 😂 but thanks for the support 👍🏽
LOL brothaa
:( right ::(( it's the most demoralising thing ever that's why I don't think I can ever give up foundation
+Jin11193 I’m so proud of you already. I’m here for you! 😚

I don't like it, and I think it's slowly changing, but people really do notice, even if only subconsciously. v_v
On a happier note, tinted suncreen and BB creams with SPF are great options for going foundation free.
I enjoy your videos so much, how you deliver such confidence and inspiration to all of us out here. Thank you so much!
your videos were giving me a great enlighten Liah, thank you so much.. Anyway thank you again Liah, you're my life-saver.. xD
I don't wear any makeup to begin with. At 20 years old, I have no experience with makeup😅
want a cookie ?
same
I didnt started till i was 21!
I'm a skincare addict than a makeup addict, my basic makeup was just eyebrows and lipstick but now i've gradually moved to foundation, concealer and eyeshadow.
I can never leave my house without lipstick due to my pale and ugly lip colour but i can give up the rest!
me too 😢
村上セシル she never stated she wanted a cookie, she’s just stating her experience. What an irrelevant and unnecessary comment.
wow i came to watch this video expecting it would be a video about how to apply makeup without foundation. like all the beauty RUclipsrs does such as looking for an alternative for foundation or doing ten steps skincare just to go foundation free(not bad if you really wanted to do that). tbh i never thought it would be about the obsession of having perfect “mask” of a skin and the addiction of wearing foundation to cover oneself to the point of being scared to show who u really are underneath even when no ones paying attention or scrutinies us. and here it is, liah yoo with guide on how to have a healthy relationship with your foundation without having to cake on foundation to go out the house and talking about spending those extra minutes for something more valuable and productive. kudos to u liah.
Aw thanks for getting the intent of this video. I'm glad you found this video worth commenting! xx
Tbh id save your money and just buy a nyx concealer, a lot cheaper and still good
gerard sleigh thankyou! :)
+HEYTERRY yes exactly!!! I’m supporting your foundation free journey!
+Jenny Wong I love how you love your skin shining through! Much courage to you love!!

I really love your video❤❤ please do your "no foundation" routine!!
+Keira thank you❤️
I have been following Liah's channel for only a month now and I will say this, LIAH YOO HAS HELPED ME GO FOUNDATION FREE.
+Kelley
I stop using foundation because I have fungal acne. Since february 2019 😂
*sorry for bad english

I never wore foundation because of my country's weather but I can never go out without my eyebrows done 😭
TheKymberly13 That’s fine girl!! Do whatever makes comfortable to you
OMG... we r similar.. I can't go out without eyeliners....
Yes gurl, same here..
TheKymberly13 Hey where are you from? And yes!! When i have my browcara on i feel like i did every step of my makeup😂
Minn Rojas Hey I'm from Martinique (french West Indies ☺), hot and sunny weather ALL YEAAAR LONG 😭😂
Dear Liah,
Thank you for encouraging being foundation free!

+alex This is so empowering. Thanks for sharing hon❤️
This is so helpful. Honestly always wanted to start wearing no foundation yet, I don't feel confident just yet T_T
+sn12 Opt for micronized zinc based sunscreen! They’re more sheer than normal zinc!
Liah Yoo 리아유 micronized zinc based you say?!! Not familiar at all any recommendations please preferably essential oils and fragrance free???
Just try bronzing powder!
jana m that unfortunately looks very obviously orange on me when I apply bronzer all over tried it once and will never do that!! I now keep my bronzer just to me outer perimeter! But it's the center of my face that looks ashy with sunscreen so that sucks
sn12 did u already try biore sunscreen?
I rarely comment on social media things but this videos of you make me wanna share my experience about my foundation free routine im 22 and i rarely wear foundation and also cushion only thing that i do in the morning is just putting sunscreen on my face and other people always asking why i have no pimples and also the acne scar so the thing for me is whenever you felt uncomfortable and insecure you have to cheer up yourself you are beautiful no matter what the more you put the thing to conceal your imperfection spot the longer it will take time to recover!
sunscreen is life
When you are army and liah yoo's fans
: I should love my self 🤣
You are so beautiful and so confident! Very inspiring ❤️
Me: *watching at 3:53am*
Liah: eatwell and s l e e p w e l l
you are the greatest inspiration for me ever! i've changed so much in my life because of you and this help me a lot.
still fighting with acne, but i'll manage it with your support! thanx for everyting, Liah!
I never wear foundation but I use bb creams or tinted sunscreens from time to time when my skin is acting up. Sometimes I just cover spots and that's it.
I'm used to go "barefaced". The problem is when I get nasty pustules in that time of the month. How to cover that up? 😭
Another problem is that since my skin is not used to foundations, if I wear them no matter which one, I break out :(.
heyitsrosie did u double cleanse?
Hezlin Aryani yeah, i double cleanse. I have sensitive skin so I only use hypoallergenic products, when it comes to BB or tinted sunscreen and it doesnt break me out.
heyitsrosie hang on there girl! I think Liah suggested using some concealer which is great for sensitive skins... that might help you out...
heyitsrosie same here
heyitsrosie omg same
I probably only wear makeup once a week, even though I love makeup and have a ton of it.
Casca52 uhhh me too.. I start like make up and try to experiment with make up😅. Did u wash your fash with just water?
I love your voice, can you read me bedtime stories? :D
🌴🌴🌴 Love from 🇵🇭
THE SHADE WITH MICHELLE PHAN!!! gurl im with ya
I'm definitely going to check out that book and get one for this friend 💚
Also, I've never wanted to wear foundation bc I wanted my skin to be good enough that I didn't need foundation, still working on it though 😂😂
I don’t think it takes good skin to go foundation free! Do whatever’s comfortable to you :)
Liah Yoo 리아유 I'll be sure to show her your support!! And this video ofc ❤❤
This is sooo helpful! Going through the no-foundation transition right now and it’s not easy!
I think I'm currently concealer-addicted. I've always used a lighter coverage foundation and spot concealed. But now I refuse to go anywhere without concealer.
+zoeyc203 As long as it brings joy, no problem. Go for it!
I just dream of the day when I don't feel constantly embarrassed by my skin.
Hi Liah, I just wanted to say that as a relatively new follower, I find your videos both informational and aspirational! You give off a very healthy, vibrant and positive glow and that is what I want to radiate towards others as well (both through actions and with healthier skin).
Please keep up the good work!
+Sola Shin thank you so much Sola🌴💚
Hi I have not very good skin with some acne and redness and enlarged pores. However I have gone foundation free with just 1 step:
Be lazy.
Done 😎😂
Do you use a foundation in this video? Your skin is sooo good!
+123 hji no I haven’t and you can def see my skin ain’t perfect in the close up shot!
Liah Yoo 리아유 but that's soo smooth 😍 can you please do an update of ur morning/ makeup routine?? 😊😊
Liah, out of all of those *caterpillar* breakouts that you have, I will still ask you out to be my 1 and only :") 💓
I may have followed Michelle Phan from around 2008, but I would rather choose you over her. :"]
+Donnie : eimaXe Aww 🤗
🤗
Stay healthy, Liah! Thank you so much for all the encouraging words and all the topic you always brought to me is definitely change mylife step by step (about the skin and the food and the make up) and all the fun too. Cheers from 🌴 fam!
+Aidisafira S. Thanks love 🌴❤️
Liah Yoo 리아유 yeah, cant agree more. :)
