i can't decide whether bocce or overijssel is my favorite - the vivid dissonance in bocce, the energy of the barely-audible chant, the pop of the p in "candy shop". "i learned the land before you pigs did, do i look like i'm scared of death?" peak energy of that sudden burst of investment in what was previously a casual game, because Oh, it's fucking personal now, this is a matter of pride.
meanwhile overijssel is just. pure neon commitment to the bit. the malice and disgust imbued in just "satya lavender!". "she said that I was sick, as if she had to tell me that" is just a fucking killer line. and something about the gleeful delivery of "six hundred long kilometers from zwolle to the border" puts me right in the scene. makes me feel like some poor hitchhiker along those 600 kilometers stuck in the car with the dead woman in the back, listening to the singer talk about pawning teeth. i love it.

I was just thinking "Man it'd be funny to punch the lyrics to "By Greg Rutkowski" into one of the AI art things" then it smacked me in the face that that was the joke of the song and I started laughing so much. What a wonderful album, fun to listen too, fills me with joy and even a great sense of humour.
Your music manages to be high energy, in your face and intricately detailed without turning into pure noise or getting tiring, it's honestly incredible.

By Greg Rutkowski made me think about how references to modern products and proprietary technologies feel so weird and artificial, but how when old songs reference the analogous things from those eras it can feel like a natural reference to well-established art tendencies using those products. Like, when By Greg Rutkowski references Unreal Engine it feels different than when a song from the 70's reference Super 8 film, but 50 years from now, an old reference to Unreal Engine might feel as much a reference to art style as a 70's reference to Super 8 film.

I have to admit, after hearing Overijssel i wasn't sure this album was gonna be for me. While entertaining, the kind of crunchy geccsy hyperpop isn't the most fun to listen to, so i thought the rest of the music might be sorta like that. I was so delightfully wrong, the album breaks the ice with cutesy beeps and boops, and that charming sort of narration / singing voice Patricia does so well, holding back the drop just long enough to make it super hype. The intro is very short, but it sets up the pallet for the rest of the songs to come, and each one only increases the energy. I even found myself vibing hard and dancing to Overijssel when it came around, a testament to how well constructed the album is. On top of all this, These albums only get more and more furry as time passes, It's very easy to imagine this happy jaunty lion singing everything as he bathes. (I cant remember his name or find it at the moment :,3 ) As always, the collaborators elevate the album, BlushingYokai's art giving a perfect visual, and the usual suspects of Wulf Boi and CJ the X bring fantastic performances to "Your Throat Belies" and "I'll Be" respectively. I feel lucky to live in a time with such wonderful furry art like this.

  • @jellifygirl
    @jellifygirl 2 года назад +12

By Greg Rutkowski kinda, in some subtle way, feels like it highlights the art that seems almost inherent to prompt engineering (or whatever you wanna call it). Like yeah, it's fun to draw out the magic words the funny techbros say to make their computer do "The Most Goodest Picture Ever" but also there's something hilariously human about it, about the act of teaching a computer to "understand" our words and then desperately trying to understand them back, resulting in human-generated content being engineered for a computer, so that the computer will generate content engineered for us.
I just ...love it. And I love how this channel has tinged my brain with the nuance, understanding and confidence to freely interpret and generate ideas based on stuff, even if it's "just" a bunch of dorky jargon accompanied by wiggly tunes.

I listened for "pop the puppy endorphins" in Bocce, but Greg Rutkowski might've affected me the most... at first I thought it was a GlaDOS style computer commenting on humans' art, but then I realised it was a bunch of neural network art prompt spam. The repetition means something quite different then, as if the person is just hitting render again and again and again.

Detail, sharp focus, highly detail, perfect light, chiaro escuro, award winning piece by Greg Rotkowski!

Like is the kind of song that I like. Sure, it's got some good music, but the lyrics are what brings it from music to art to me. I don't know if that song is autobiographical, but even if it's not, it's that courage to expose ones true self, to risk criticism and embarrassment but do it anyway because it's authentic that really makes it art in my eyes.

listening to your throat belies for the first time is an experience i wish i could experience the euphoria of at will. it really is unlike anything ive heard from patricia!
overijssel definitely takes the cake for catchiest song, though; i find myself parrotting the lyrics to it just as a vocal stim. theres something about "pop, look alive, look at ease, look ahead, check, dont avert your eyes, dont appease" that just _feels_ good to say. good mouth shapes. all so good!
bocce is a _hard_ swing in terms of mood, but it works, and when i realized what by greg rutkowski was saying, it added a layer of humor that i think this whole album carries, to a degree, honestly. "bitch, i know how to play bocce, i can see your fucking breath!" is the type of line that makes you giggle when you think a little too long about it.
that isnt to say, however, that this album lacks emotional substance beyond its humor; like is a wonderful song that is as queer as it is autistic, and that i think works wonderfully as a closer.
didnt intend to leave a whole ass mini-review, but hey. might as well get the thoughts out while i got em!

I think this album was the stick that broke the camels back on me attempting to do music stuff! I barely know anything about music stuff! It would be really cool to make something like this even if it takes a lot of years to even get okay! Thanks! ^-^

I've had Bocce stuck in my head ever since I heard it at the end of your "On The Ethics of Boinking Animal People" video. I knew as soon as I heard it that I would immediately grabbing that song off your Bandcamp! 😁 It's just so stimmy and rhythmic, I often find myself repeating the spoken word bit out loud every so often. It just feels so good to yell "Do I look like I'm scared of death?? Bitch, I know how to play Bocce! I CAN SEE YOUR FUCKING BREATH."
Great song in a great album, 10/10

wish i could be this. feel so held down all the time, like i just cant start being myself and doing the things i want to do. always held down by family not accepting me or understanding, if i try to move out im held down by money and have to move back in with them. why cant i just be free to be myself. music like this makes me want that so fucking badly.
