I'm a 5'4 female and I started going to metal shows as soon as I turned 18 and I've never felt unsafe in a mosh pit. In my early 20's I got to see them perform this song and Joey was in the drum rig and it was one of the best experiences of my life.
my one regret in life was never getting to see slipknot with the original line up... ( from the release of self titled and onward)

It doesn't get much bigger commercially in metal than Slipknot outside of older legacy bands like Metallica. However their Prime was early to mid 2000s. While they still release new music they are moving into the realm of Legacy band being around for 25 years now. Mosh Pits have a code of conduct. Someone falls you pick them up, and you don't intentionally hurt someone or you'll get checked. Injuries are usually minor and accidental.
Fun fact: Joey was not strapped into his chair, he just told gravity to fuck off.

I remember the time at a Slipknot concert I actually fell down in the most pit, everyone instantly stopped and helped me up cause everyone cares, no one wants to see anyone hurt when they are enjoying a performance. Metal fans are some of the most kind people you'll ever meet!

Metal calms me down. Also, in the mosh pit rule #1 is if someone falls down, you pick them up. Period. You don’t hit/kick/punch someone while they are on the ground. Rock singers have stopped shows on occasion if someone is on the ground and can’t get up. That doesn’t happen very often bc we protect each other. Unlike whomever it was where people got trampled and people died. Travis Scott I think it was.
If you wanna see some CRAZY drum kits, check out Tommy Lees solos from Motley Crue. Those were insane. Upside down, went across the fans. Each show got crazier. I’ve seen them all.
Oh, you're killing me🤦♀️You're just starting your rock journey, though, so it's okay. Aerosmith, AC/DC, etc. They are a whole different category of music and were already legends when the 90s came. My absolute favorite decade for rock is definitely the 90's!! From Grunge to Alternative to NuMetal and beyond. So much happened in the 90s and i miss it so much😭There are so, so many! Alice In Chains, Soundgarden, Bush, Slipknot, Korn, Staind, Blink 182, My Chemical Romance, Foo Fighters, The Offspring, Papa Roach, Deftones, Rage Against The Machine, soooooooo many!! Then there's my personal #1 all time favorite who are a category all their own, Tool🖤For me Tool=perfection!
Personally would separate Slipknot/Metallica and Kiss/Aerosmith. The latter are more hard rock/arena rock, the former are definitely more metal bands *which in itself is an extreme subgenre of rock). Both Slipknot and Metallica definitely have "non-metal" songs but judging them by their respective discographies they're definitely metal bands (Metallica being thrash metal which originated in the early 80s and Slipknot being more nu metal/groove metal both of which are 90s metal subgenres). Give Iron Maiden a listen if you like more traditional rock. They're an older metal band so it's not as intense as Slipknot or some Metallica songs are.
At the time of Slipknot ya had stuff like Tool and Perfect Circle. Ya also had Stone Sour, Corey's side project. Pretty much all I was listening to at this time frame from this genre. Bout the time they "faded" ya had bands like FFDP just starting out. When Slipknot was coming on the scene they were taking over for bands like Pantera. My first intro to Slipknot was 2001. Heretic Anthem. And I loved it. Been a maggot ever since.

Also, it always hurts my heart a bit when Corey yells out Joey's name in this video. Jay was great, and I'm sure Eloy will also be fantastic...but Joey was just special in the group, and the world lost an incredible musician the day he passed. The same goes for Paul. I really DO believe in not believing 100% about what Corey says about his lyrics at all, i think Slipknot first songs lyricism was more deep than we can imagine, can't forget they were edgy AF and most of them had fcked up experiences

as far as a good show to start with, Slipknot is on tour right now. they were my first metal show back in 2001 when i was 14, and they're coming back around for the 25th anniversary of the self-titled album. i'm very excited to see the 9 person mutant metal militia from Iowa, especially with Eloy behind the kit now. i didn't get to see Jay's era, but i lucked out seeing Joey just after Iowa dropped

Top bands can be looked at in many categories. Album sales? Live shows? Longevity? Influence or Creativity? Not a question i'd like to answer, but my personal favorite and definetly ONE of the GOATS is Tool. I'd recommend "46 & 2" or "The Pot" to get your feet wet and are the ones most reactors start with also. "the grudge", "Vicarious" or "Ænima" are also enjoyable by most on first listen. Enjoy the rabbit hole.

You shouldn't worry about getting messed up at a show, even if you're in the mosh pit it's more of a human bouncy castle than a brawl and if one person falls (or drops their glasses) Shit stops till their safe then the madness starts over. Little Hip Hop trivia, but Onyx wrote the song Slam after seeing metal heads get their shit out without fighting which was/is a big problem in Hip Hop clubs. Im almost 47 5'2 125 lb female metalhead that you can only find in the mosh pit, the big main one if there are multiples! Its basically slam dancing so anyone picking a fight gets theirs. If you fall you will get picked up and theres nothing to worry about. Its a tremendous stress reliever and even if you get banged up a little you will incresibly refreshed by the end of the night. Its the only place to truly get the full experience of the music at the show!!! Its more than worth it still to this day, maybe i will run into you there one day!!!

Slipknot will forever be OG and one of my favorites. Seeing them on the front cover of a music magazine my freshman year of high school in 99', i started my journey and never looked back. IMO, the most prolific bands in rock/metal history.
