  • On December 6, 1995, Craig Rolfe, Tony Tucker and Pat Tate were murdered inside a Range Rover on a quiet country lane in Rettendon Essex.
    All three of them were "blasted" by a shotgun from close range, lying blood-covered and slumped in the vehicle until they were discovered by two local farmers the next morning.
    The victims were known to be part of the 'Essex Boys' drug gang, and numerous theories formed surrounding how they came to be shot eight times in a peaceful Essex village.

      @@rambo235 I agree - (I'm not from Europe), years ago a thug friend of mine, a bully I guess, was selling gutter drugs in the South Island. As is often the case some dude ended up in debt and was avoiding him. He (my mate) was telling people he was looking for him, had they seen him, he's gonna get it when..... and all that. Dude got scared, turned up waving a shot gun, practically crying, pointing it at him, just so happened a rather well respected guy and his wife were there and talked him into putting the gun down. Another thug I knew of, was threatening a dude on the phone for selling his girlfriend morphine or some crap like that, the dealer dude got scared, shot him (the thug) dead in the back (from behind) and burnt his body on a cord and a half of firewood!! Point being, when people are threatened and scared they get desperate and feel there's only one way out, (more likely) someone feeling threatened, someone in that position, rather than "James Bond" "Scarface" or "MI6"!!

    Whomes had connections to east London firm, TTR were running wild and being too 'loud' with their activities. Firm put heavy pressure on Steele and whomes to get them down the lane where the firm had a gunman waiting. Neither Steele or whomes pulled the trigger but were heavily involved in setting the 3 up hence they denied murder but phone records put them in the area. Police needed to put it on someone so they nicked DN and told him what to say in exchange for a new life and protection

      Phone mast were few in 95 mobiles were new. Those phone mast covered a wide radius. So they didn’t have to be in the area for their phone to connect to that mast. That was proven in court for defence. They also proved Whomes couldn’t have phoned Nichols from the scene as it’s in a valley and not always easy to get a signal. Maybe that’s why Tucker and Tate weren’t returning calls that night.

      If a London gang were funding the cocaine coming in by plane. And these three were going to rip it off. And take some to Bowman to cut it what if he realised it was peoples gear he was friendly with. And he’d given them a machine gun to use on the courier. Could he have tipped off his friends or could he have got so mad at them for involving him ?. Or could it have been a cartel of villains who got together and said let’s fake them out. If Steele and Whomes were the lure then who ever took them out would have had to make it worth their while if they got a capture. Or could it have been Nichols in the Range Rover and the two bent cops waiting to take them out. Could he have phoned Whomes to pick up a broken down car at the wheatsheaf pub telling Whomes to call him when he got there in order to put his phone in the vicinity ?. Was Steele and Whomes set up to take the fall. Remember the two officers and Nichols wasn’t under surveillance at the time the murder was committed. So it could have been them perhaps heavy villains knew of their scam and threatened to expose them if they didn’t do what they wanted. Telling Nichols to put himself there as the getaway driver but not admitting to knowing that the three were going to be taken out. That he thought it was a drugs deal only.

    Considering what they were up to Rolf was very loose lipped to his girlfriend. At first she named another Mick and then changed her mind to Mick the pilot yet Tate girlfriend was under the impression they were meeting the other Micky. So did Rolfs girlfriend change her mind voluntary or was she persuaded to ?. Coupled with Darren Nichols 28 statements until he perfected the perfect statement. Even saying he pulled out of the lane forcing a driver to stop. That driver gave a statement saying ford transit come out forcing him to brake in those conditions. Only one man in the van. So if Darren Nicholas says it was him pulling out after picking Steele and Whomes up the driver would have seen three men in the car. I’m sure he knows a transit van from a car. .Darren Nichols statements seem to include other witnesses statements from that night. Now was he prompted to say this or did he see these accounts in various papers. I don’t believe this was Steele and Whomes both men deny it was them to this day even after all these years .

    Listening to your content I get the impression it was less of a case of professional hit, and more of a case of a botched police investigation, partly due to corruption and cover ups

    • @jamesbrannigan5620
      @jamesbrannigan5620 Год назад +6

      Had to be a professional hit. All this time and still no evidence, and you'd need some seriously big balls to calmly take out those three like that. It has to be a professional to have no fear (they might have been drugged up bullies but only someone very serious would risk messing with them - falter and mess up in any way and you're in trouble unless you're used to that level of violence ). Everyone knows that they'd upset many people who wouldn't hesitate to order their killing. I do think that the police were corrupt as (hardly unusual but there were some very powerful old school criminals in the area and they always have police connections).. but more than anything they were under intense pressure to 'solve' the murders. Someone had to go away. I watched the new SKY documentary and if you keep your eye on Ivan Dibley the copper in charge it's written all over his face, answers and body language that he doesn't really believe in the convictions. He either knows the truth or is still trying to convince himself that he solved the case despite the endless questions surrounding it. I don't have any theories that anyone else hasn't come out with, but it is beyond obvious that too much about the convictions stinks. Fwiw I tend to believe that some real criminals (not wannabes like those three but powerful connected people) took them out because of their reckless behaviour causing heat for everyone, plus they'd robbed and bullied people connected to big firms. Nipper Ellis now says it was his deceased father... Possible but I can only guess like everyone else. What I can't believe is that someone like Whomes or even Steele was capable of such a cold blooded professional hit. As for Nicholls, no one with half a brain would involve him in a job like this. Especially Steele who was a clever and thorough guy. He might have used him for smuggling but I can't see anyone involving him in a murder that was always bound to attract massive attention.
      Fascinating case though!

    • @TheSavagederek
      @TheSavagederek 2 года назад +7

      She later admitted she wasn't sure if it was that night, or another, which threw some doubt into the alibi. Still, with no exact time of death ever given, how can they prove for or against any alibi. Which is another reason, people including myself, think it was partly a fit up. Or at the least lazy policing.

    • @jamesbrannigan5620
      @jamesbrannigan5620 Год назад +1

      It is.. But how many more people would they have hurt, tortured and killed before the police did anything? They were getting more and more out of control every day and had already caused untold misery. Sometimes the underworld solves its own problems and they were a problem to many people. As Nipper Ellis said in the recent SKY docu, what would have been the point of him going to the police? I don't like vigilantism, but anyone who's had even small brushes with people like this knows that going to the police is the very worst option available to you. They don't and can't protect anyone but those in witness protection who are valuable to them. They can't usually do a thing to protect the common person from violence and extortion, and if you're a known criminal they won't give a toss even if you're totally non violent.
      Not ideal for sure, but it's just how life is. Whoever took these three out did their current and future victims a big favour.

      The case stinks. Only a true professional could carry out a job like that. Steele could have been out years ago, why stay in prison? And why is part of Whomes parole deal that he cannot discuss the case at all? He has never admitted guilt either? Why.. there would be zero comeback for any of them, those three were hated and had no one backing them. No criminal families, not a soul.. Many older criminals have openly stated on camera that they were always going to be got rid of eventually for many reasons. They had no friends.
      The Essex force was riddled with corruption and they were under huge pressure to put someone away. We can all speculate but many experienced professionals, including ex policemen from SOCA squads have stated that the convictions are laughable. None of us should blindly accept obvious miscarriages of justice, that just aids the ongoing corruption in the system. Which could effect any one of us.. It's not only criminals that get fitted up.

    Just looking at the crime scene photos of where the range rover was found, how much room would of been left between the range rover and the hedge?
    If someone was to get out of the rear seat and open the gate would he of been able to get by without closing it?
    Also wasn't Pat Tate found with his feet in both rear footwells?

    • @cherylspandley8270
      @cherylspandley8270 2 года назад +2

      There wouldn't have been any space, getting out the back passenger door, on the passenger side, because there was a bit of a ditch, or the ground went down about 6, inches in parts of that side, how ever Pat tate had space for getting out of the vehicle on the drivers side, or having the door wide open. I think Pat was the one who opened the door, making it easier for the shooter, that was his mistake i believe. By reversing the RR backwards the gate opened into the lane, so you could drive into the field beyond. It looks like Craig Rolfe drew right upto the gate, then realised it was locked; and reversed back up, as there is two sets of tyre marks from the Range Rover. If the gate was opened and the RR went through into the field, someone would have to get out; and close the gate behind them. As for Pat Tate he was seen in the middle, as a back seat passenger in the RR earlier on that evening. Statements by witnesses bare this out.

      Good point raised about the space on the passenger side of RR considering the gunman allegedly fired shots here …… why would he do this when all targets are in clear view through the opened door?

    Jees you really want to make this story complicated don't you. Well so did many others & their attempts also failed. Why can't people just accept that the authorities probably have the story right. So many factors show the convicted pair to be guilty, even they accepted their lot with less of a ruckus.
