For anyone wondering, the hollowed tree stump does get used as a dead drop location in the dark brotherhood questline, but its contents aren't reset to contain the dead drop. Instead, the cash and note are just added to the container
A slower but very worthwhile method I like is to simply visit all the farms and pick up all the ingredients. All of them are free and respawn after 3 days. Make stamina potions out of them and sell those. This is also amazing for training Alchemy and Intelligence. As your Alchemy increases, the potions become quite valuable. It is worth it to also upgrade your alchemy equipment whenever you can, as that will make more valuable potions. The farms I use are Odiil farm, the vineyards next to Skingrad, the farm of the guy who went to chase the Sunken One, the farm of the guy who pays you to hunt bears and lastly Lord Drad's estate.
Since you have to go to Kvatch anyways, if you follow the road that goes eastward then north, Shetcombe farm has a lot of other ingredients to take advantage of.
Another good way to make gold throughout the entire game is to go to a cave called Rockmilk cave, it's in the south, down the road heading north on the west side of the water heading out of Leyawiin. In this cave there are like 3 or 4 rooms in it and there are like 10+ black bow bandits in there as well as 10+ or so marauders so it's good money from the very start but it only gets better as gear scales up with your level, when you go there and you're high enough level to loot glass and ebony and whatnot it's thousands of gold a run. It's also low risk because the bandits and marauders are fighting each other so you can just watch and then clean up the scraps.
True. Some would argue that stuff like high magnitude short duration custom spells are cheating since the developers didn't intend you to have access to e.g. 100 points weakness spells, let alone at low destruction levels. FTR I do use custom spells. My advice is to not care what others consider "cheating" and just do what you want, if something feels lame to you and makes the game boring then don't use it (e.g. I think farming the poison barrel for cash trivialises the early game so I don't use it, but I don't care if someone else does)

Honorable Mention to Paranoia in Skingrad and Galrthir's basket in his house for a little cash flow. I also like getting the room in Aleswell after doing the Zero Visiblity. Those drawers don't reset so it's a good storage and you get a bed (Though beds aren't an issue lol) Plus the tiny farm is a good way to start getting levels in everyones favorite skill alchemy. In my newest playthrough I just did the entire Arena questline. Pretty short and easy. I won on normal difficulty as a mage without even buying non-base spells. The one time it was really hard was that guy with the shield who's basically immune to magic.
I always grab the two goblin shaman staves, worth 6k each, from goblin Jim's cave and derelict mine when I go to skingrad for the mages guild. Goblin Jim is even right next to bleak flats. sell for 2k gold each, enough to afford the spellmaking candles from the mage tower dlc.
If you play normally you don't really have money problems except for early game. Alchemy and looting marauders is a sure way. Knowing where the best farms are is important for doing a ton of alchemy, like the unmarked tomato farm just north of Skingrad.
@@exantiuse497 I don't consider these secret 'lootboxes' to be a normal way of gaining cash. Alchemy is optional but it's free and easy in the beginning, just need to go farming, literally.
I just engage in a little bit of harmless agriculture. Alchemy is a great skill to level up in itself as well, especially if you want the intelligence points.
How I start new character: 1: Mage's Guild recommendation quest 2: On the way pick up Tower Stone to get fortify skill 3: After completing recommendation quest make fortify mercantile on self 75 (if not major then 85) and charm 65 on touch all for 1 sec (you don't need 25 at restoration for this) 4: Loot any dungeon on Imperial Island, there are 2 bandit caves, 1 monster cave / ruins dungeon, Market District sewers, Bloodworks Sewers and there is Goblin cave too. Easy money and skills training. Yea you need to go back and forth to get all items in hollow tree stump but there are 2 Endurance trainer one for heavy armor and armorer so if you use light armor or don't use any you can pay them to get +5 each lvl up.
Nice. I've mostly been getting by with selling potions I've created. And the occasional loot from bandits. I'll definitely be getting a better feather spell, and raiding these locations.
don't forget the really inspiring series of best sellers "the life of Eslaf Erol", in 4 volumes, subtitled "beggar", 'thief", "warrior" and finally "king" great exemple for who don't know where to start in a ES game, and, you don't need to look in the construction tool wich contenant is static, where is an infinite stach of whatever, to become a master alchemist by farming stamina potions, and all theses shenanigans. ps : you started the serie by complaining that people don't play it like a rpg... and now your advice is to farm an infinite stach of apples and vampire while throwing all of your valuables possessions in a tree inside the town, just next to the bed of a beggar... You just need 5 K and a few quests to have a home, 2-3 quest to have a place in bruma's temple, 2 kill to have a bed in the -brotherhood-, 1 quest in leyawiin to become a knight and have a home, etc...

A tip for stealing from the guilds. You can easily get the max amount of stolen valuables you need for the thieves guild by actually stealing from the guilds. Hold off on joining the mages guild so the hand appears red so the items actually count as stolen, and steal everything from each mages guild location. The potions and scrolls are worth a lot. Also there's a couple grand soul gems in the imperial arcaneum in a display case. This way you can make gold on the side while gaining enough stolen valuables to start every quest in the thieves guild.

@@tacoman736 Chorrol castle has the most stuff but it's not even half of how much you need to sell. You can get more from the skingrad mages guild alone, because there's a lot of scrolls and potions there. Leyawin mages guild has a lot of stuff too.

No, steal wathever, bread, cups, forks, plates, wine, clothes... as long as you can sell it for more than 0, it will do the job, and quite quick. 100 arrows will give you more money than 1 potion that has a value of 100
@@tacoman736 well that isn’t true. Spellmaking late game can be a few thousand per spell, enchanting is never super cheap, and late game training can be 4k+ for a single 5 trainings. Most people want to buy a house or 2 as well. I easily spend 150k minimum, often spending way more by late game
@ You’re right about Spellmaking, but even for houses, I think you could have enough for a regular playthrough + a few houses at least. Especially if you’re turning all their low value ingredients into potions. If we’re counting both mages and fighters, there’s really so much value in them

As soon as you unlock custom spells is not soon or early. You have to unlock the university unless there is another spellmaking alter accessible early. I use a mod that places one in each mg. Imagine not starting out with spellcrafting available. Imagine putting up with that leveling system built to destroy fun instead of using a leveling mod.
If it’s your first play through, they are fun quests. If it isn’t, it takes about an hour to get access to spellmaking, it unlocks charm, water breathing, and feather, and you make gold grabbing everything and selling it while you are there. It is very very quick and absolutely early game
rendil staffs actually is the best shop to sell at, right from the sewers that is. this guy has insane personality and the disposition formula on uesp is wrong as it incrases initial desposititon not decrases it but incrases it - you can barter him at 71-2 depending on your initial race while the dark elf guy can only go up to 68

The amounts required to steal for thieves guild is really low, 2-5 minutes in any city castle will get you more than you need for the questline

Main issue is the price cap!🥰 also Playing as a dark elf is pretty popular for a additional bonus but playing as a wood elf is less so
