Most tongan have some Lau heritage. The Lau and Tongan languages are mutually intelligible.

Mara is a descendent of Maafu Tui Lau, Tonga and Fiji had very close ties as do Samoa with Tonga , King Tupou 1st travelled to Samoa to get his Tattoos he was the Last Tongan King and chief to do so because of Christanity , The First Rulers of the South Pacific were Fiji , Then Samoa, Tonga was the Last. We were the Masters of The Ocean

Ratu Mara is not a descendant of Ma'afu. They are related but not descendant. The Tui Lau title was just recent.
