- My Buddy Jake stopped by to show me his new ride. A 1985 Ford Ranger Mini Truck with a Huge 460 Big Block stuffed under the hood (well almost under the hood). We call it "The Black Widow". Smoke 'Em if Ya got 'Em.....Jake did.

This is the coolest and most heart warming thing I've ever seen. Jake, you have a badass ride, and I have no idea how those folks crammed that 460 in there.
Crudely.
Sounds like a good kid. Teach him everything you know.
I'll do my best.
Tell the young man to get ride of the "dip". He will be sorry later in life. Love your videos.
I'm 43 now and wish someone would have beat me for using tobacco products.
Prayers to your dad, Lou....
Please be careful with that Ranger! It rocks!!!
I uh, could never have a fast vehicle.
My lead right foot would get me in serious trouble.
Jake is cool. Rick, please jeep him safe. If you will...
Yeah, keeping the Ranger a bit quieter, might jeep the cops at bay..
Cool truck... and Jake is cool too..
That is definitely a Danger Ranger! Anabel is scared and wants to get out because she doesn't want to go for a ride in it.
Jake sure got a Sweet Ride, Glad Yer Gonna Help Him Make It Safer.! ATB T God Bless
Thank you for sharing this with me ! Take care , stay safe and healthy with whatever you all maybe doing next ! Praying for a fast healing for Lou ! Please have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year ! Doing well here in Kansas .
Some serious fab work there, the "to do" list is a hoot!
I think it's probably safe. 460's in the mid 90's is only 245 hp. It's just a noise machine
If I'm not mistaking, it probably came out of an 70's Lincoln, had a buddy that had one with a 460ci.
That 460 was made back when they was 375 hp definitely not a 90s
@@todtabor4346 fact
All the torque though.
@@todtabor4346 I think 365 was the 68 to 70 spec. However the 71 or 72 police interceptor version came with flat top pistons and the heads flowed more like cobra jet veraion
Rick , Sir , not trying to tell how to do anything ! But PLEASE help that young man out ! I know a lot of us older folk have done some crazy stuff ! But when he opened that hood and I seen that I thought holy crap that is a rolling death trap for sure ! Heck even Annabella got the heck out it after he started it up ! SAYING FAILED FAILED FAILED ! I'm glad that he's into vehicles and all but he needs to think safety first ! He is a good kid let's just keep him safe and alive !
I think its cool and it's great to see young guys getting into cars and trucks. Not many do anymore. He does need to be schooled a little bit and I know you'll do that Rick
Please help this young man before he learns how his tail lights become his headlights! Believe me I've been there!
Ain't we all?
Oh, I believe my parents warned me about this truck......Ranger Danger.
I owned a 59 GMC half ton and the six went bad so I put a 56 Pontiac v8 in it with a 62 Pontiac crossover pipe with a 5 foot piece of flex exhaust hose anchored to the radio antenna, and with the truck licensed as a farm truck the police never looked twice. Loud why yes it could get loud. For awhile there was no shiftier just two rods up through two torched holes in the floor. Ya gota love it
Oboy we all been there once in are life..and he good kid who wants to learn about things..
Jake is a cool kid, he's got "Dirt Under His Fingernails"! His truck is Obscene, but Wonderful! "Bored to the Max"; so .060" Over, ok. Flame-Thrower, shlame thrower, blah, blah, ok; next. The carb is a Dual-Quad Holley (dual Float Bowl 4 Barrel); good :) He's going to have to Anchor that Griffin radiator! That truck will sound wonderful, with a set of Thrush glass-packs! His truck would be even better, if it had a manual transmission! Maybe you take an Hour (or so) and teach Jake to drive a Manual Transmission truck? Great video Rick!
and don't forget... "Completely Cammed" 😂😂
That's awesome hell have fun building that and hopefully he does some.major safety changes over time and have fun learning and doing this project
I hope so too
Good video again you know what I thank about putting big motor in small truck I like it tell him good burn out he sounds like a good person if He hangs around you he will learn a lot be safe my friend
You got that right
I wish your dad the best
Dude looks like Jesse James &!sorta sounds like him!!! Cool truck!!
Used the Lincoln welder to lock the diff. Hence "Lincoln locker". Love the 18 gauge front bumper!
Flame thrower ought to go well pointed right at those tires!
Well. it will make the rear tires sticky Jeff. Merry Christmas my Friend.
At least he didn't put an LS in it lol
Ha! Right?
@@ClassicTruckRescue im not a fan of the ls
That blue Ford truck, the problem with the paint is the primer. Those years, Ford was repainting them for free after new epoxy primer and fresh base coat/clear coat paint. Back then United Technology was supplying the automakers the primer and it was contaminated with silicone. Thus, the topcoat paint peeled.
Seems like a nice young man. I feel as though someone just took advantage and sold him this old ranger with a clapped out motor. And they definitely put the cart before the horse safety wise.
Sweet ole OBS Ford
Yup.
Jake is a good guy I like him already
Jamie and I like Jake too. He's a good guy.
That ranger looks nice. I had a 1978 Ford Mustang ll I put a 351w in it.
so did I .....w/4spd. but mine was a dog. van motor........no hp.
He needs to put on a bigger blinker fluid belt, extra 23 hp. haha. Love it, he is proud of that!!! Very nice
Like the vtx 1800 ! Best bike I ever had. Got ran over from behind and survived. Would like to have another one.
With the factory manifolds it fits like a glove. Some guy local to me had a 460 based bronco II. It's more than possible
Well he does have the heaviest engine around ! Good luck with the truck.
How many of us were very similar to Jake when we were around his age. Keep him close Rick, keep him close :-p
Back years ago when the dinosaurs still roamed (1977) while at an automotive trade school a friend and I built a truck similar to that. His daily driver was a very tired 74 Ford Courier pickup. He also had his dad's big Ford station wagon with a big block and automatic to drive home with. It loved gas. One day on his way home traffic had stopped on the interstate. While stopped a truck slammed into the back of him and pushed the tailgate up to the back seat. It still ran and drove so heartbroken he drove it home. The next night he had it at school showing it to all of us. After all the long faces had left he and I were studying the situation. I pop up and say too bad you count put that beautiful running motor in that 2 miles to the quart of oil truck. The next night he walks up and says let's do it.
We had to use the automatic because ther was no room for a clutch pedal. We used the front portion of a kids wheelbarrow for a firewall bump. I worked at an automotive machine shop and narrowed the wagon rear(with the help of my boss. I was still very much a rookie). I also machined adapters to use the 5 lug Ford wheels on the front. It was whittle, chop, weld and cuss but it turned out pretty good. It wasn't any street stormer but as light of a truck it was pretty spirited. The only thing that didn't work for a while was the Speedo. That was a real reliable ride and only was a problem in the winter on slick roads. For that he would spread out a tarp in the back and fill the bed about half way up with water and let it freeze. Warm weather came and it melted out.
One other was a Mazda pickup my boss and I built. The rotary had locked up and we really needed a parts hauler. We had taken a great running, rustbucket Fiat station wagon in as a partial trade. We thought we had the engine and trans sold, the deal fell through. We both sort of at the same time wondered if the DOHC Fiat motor would fit. It did with some persuasion. The Fiat was an automatic, the Mazda manual. The rear end was low geared and that Fiat trans shifted bam!bam!bam! Stoplight to stoplight nothing could beat it. After a block it ran out of steam as the tachometer redlines. But for running parts around town it was a blast! That was 1981 and that truck is still owned by my ex-boss as far as I know. It sure confused a lot of Porshe owners in the St Petersburg area in the early 80's.
Enough old fart stories for now.
As someone famous says.....
PEACE OUT!
Terry from South Carolina
Why is it that I actually read and believed every bit of that? Right on my Friend! -Rick
@@ClassicTruckRescue LOL! I have a bunch of stories! Some day soon I'll tell you about the Volkswagen Rabbit pickup I'm restoring. It's not stock.

I had ( 3 ) ‘81 Rabbit pickups over the years. Perfect little back and forth to work ride with a small bed. Too bad I have no mechanical skills or we would still have the last one. It was the wife’s truck and she love the “what in the heck is that” looks she got. I remember when we bought it a she couldn’t find reverse.....I knew it right away and got a huge laugh out of that. Club cab Ranger she has now has 5 times the cabin space and half the mileage with absolutely no stares.
Looks like a fun truck please take care of him
The dog is smarter than the owner is
Now we know who's leaving the burnouts on macksburg love the videos keep'em coming
More to come! Actually, I know who's doing the burnouts on Macksburg, but I ain't tellin' on him...
@@ClassicTruckRescue
I’m sure those long black marks are from the tree burning on the road. Yup, that’s gotta be it.
1 baaaaad ranger! Gives me BIG IDEAS bout my 88 ranger! Hmmmm
Danger ranger bet that is a handful to drive
I just love your deer pictures
We love the critters out here.
😂💙😂💙😂💙Jake definitely not from State Farm. I love it. I bought a 460 from Georgia & I don’t kno what 2 put in. I got a 2000 ranger, a 89 single cab deulley, & a 87 2dr crown Victoria
OMG can't stop laughing what's holding it together? LMAO!
hi good to see you dueing that for dad
I'm not surprised he has new tires on the back. I imagine he goes through a LOT of tires on the back.
I think it's cool and he needs to be safe.
I have a ford courier truck , mini truck 302 in it back when I was in school lol 1997 lol , I put 2 glass packs under my suburban, love them a lot,
That’s way too small of a breather for that big mighty motor. Awesome truck 👍
Sure is
were only young once , good on him :D!
Trueness...
The ranger sounded killer
If hes not careful it will be
I like Jake !! :) He's Cool.
Ol sidepipes would make it sound good
I love your truck dude!!! I’m about to do a 460 swap my self!
Go for it!
I dig the truck
i know nothing of how glasspacks would sound on the 460 but they make a ranger sounds like a civic
Yup.
Might even consider putting some chains on that motor to hold it from busting the motor mounts
I bet that was a challenge! I put a 396 Chevy motor in a 84 ranger years ago it was a booger
Wow a 460 I had one back in 1977 in a 3/4 ton and the cops were always trying to get me but never could catch that truck. Yep tires don't last long with the 460
Rick, he needs to have an entire roll cage on that truck.
Like that 65 Chevy in the back.
Sounds amazing what will be more insane is a Ford ranger with a 572 under the hood.
Damn, but you are a skilled ball buster, Rick. LOL!
Love that RANGER
Cool little truck! Be careful how hard you breath on that gas pedal when the roads are wet.
Merry Christmas all 👍🎅🎄
Same to you!
I always wanted to put a 400m in one of those 🤘🤘
Now that is a RANGER!, we have four but all 2.3 or bigger no 460s not yet anyway
The hood scoop and front spoiler/apron/whatever are HIDEOUS! But the rest is pretty cool. I have a BATTERED 99 Ranger, std cab, 2wd. I also have a '91 351W and C6 in a van. I'm thinkin' about it!
That's just insane!
You are right that Ranger can be very dangerous with that 460.A 67-72 F-100 can be scary with one. Even a Ranger with a small block can be hairy if not use to it.Teach him to respect it. You know with the Cougar.E does seem to be a Good kid !If e respects 've power and make sure the truck is safe with our help he'll be fine.
Plenty of people call their ride 'the danger ranger' this is one of the fee that lives up to the name
Fine a new home for that engine
When i was 17 i had a 86 ranger long bed with dual tanks and manual, it was the funnest truck i had, unfortunately i had too sell it. I miss that truck. Here where i live now its harder to find the first gen rangers
What color
Love it I had a mark 3 Lincoln with same engine should have kept it
Hell yeah
Roll cage a must for that widow maker
Reminds me of the coyote strapped to a rocket. Teach him how to drive sideways
Central California Watching
Yeah......probably a death trap, but awesome.
Hey Rick hey Jamie thank you for the video I enjoyed it and my uncle used to own a Ford ranger but not one like that but I sure tell you that engine needs to be inside of a general Lee but I sure hope that he is driving net monster around safely
Glad you enjoyed it
I probably would have straight piped all the way out the rear and put exhaust cannons and glasspack on it lol...
LOLLLL I have a 1977 former army truck Dodge W350 that I plow snow with that could be that rangers brother hahaha
dude lol that list hahahaha
I got a 1990 s10 509 big block chevy twin turbo . Big inch engines are great in little trucks.
If he ever wants that truck to handle any type of turns with a 460, he should mount engine behind drivers seat in the bed. He then can use engine compartment to mount huge gas tank!
Love it
Thanks Chris!
Welcome what part of Washington are you from yakima here
We are actually in the Oregon City area.
Oh very nice
I can only give 1 thumbs up at the top ! But would give a 100 thumbs up 👍 if I could !
Yes look after him.it will time we'll spent
I literally own this truck now.
We will keep you in our prayers Lol.
Hands down the nicest Ranger I heard running hands down! And God bless whoever stuffed that 460 in there lol
its got a god darn flame thrower
Solid chrome dish caps on the front would look cool.
I think so too!
He better put another Tank in the back for more gas. LOL ...plus He needs add a Rollcage for sure
Danger Ranger! Looks like the Rad is loose.
Rick your right that should be a strip truck and occasional drive to the car show/weekend burger drive in car.
He needs some slicks and we need to see a time slip.
God bless the Black widow but the Black widow could be deadlier if he follows instructions on how to build the Black widow to be better trust me that is a very sick and fast truck holla if you hear me
I love that thing.
CNGR aeronose starter. Now it justneeds EFI, or at least a bigger starter.
It’s probably bored 60 thousands of an inch over, usually that is about as far as you can go👍
.80 is max
Officially inspection and not for safety by miss Annabelle
Jake needs some help and training.Definite quid pro quo re building labour.
Rick that isn't the flying tour he's talking about the flamethrower he's talking about is the coil pack and the ignition system they call it a flamethrower coil pack
Gives me some ideas 💡 I recently purchased a old rv with a 460 bb with 54k miles. Unsure trans but I got it cheap and now it seems I need a ranger lol. Some better wheels and tires and a better hood and that truck will b sweet. Oh yea and some mufflers plzzzzz man
That’s quite a lot of engine for that little pickup!
