Hey Jesse, enjoyed the video. Completely agree about the freedom of getting out there, Solo sailing, and age creeping in. I love that you work from the boat in the summer during the week. I aspire to do something similar and would like to talk with you sometime about it all. Cheers and congratulations on your recent marriage! -Jon G

Thanks Jon. Happy to discuss my experiences any time! It's not easy working from the boat sometimes while others there's absolutely zero difference working below or working from a desk at the house. In fact, I find myself less distracted at times on the boat and working longer hours as a result. Regardless, I have one of those jobs where I could work 24/7 and still wouldn't get it all done so I don't feel bad when it's time to stretch my legs in the evenings and walk away from the computer. Doing this successfully really boils down to a few simple things: set yourself up in a secure location during the week with good mobile coverage, have multiple means to go online via computer and phone, and don't be captive to gathering the necessities of living so that you can minimize trips ashore. Some things are a bit harder like having enough water and planning out when you need to pump your holding tank. Always take the opportunity to get water and pump out! Same for fuel but I worry less about that with my 53 gallon diesel tank and the fact that I don't run my engine too much. Speaking of that, #1 thing I did that enables this lifestyle is power generation (solar) and battery storage (LiFePO4). I never really need to run my engine to charge my batteries. It took some doing to design and build a great electrical system but this boat has it now. Of course, you need to remain vigilant. As I sit now, there are rocks no more than 50m away but my Mantus anchor and G4 chain and firmly planted in the mud. Get the best ground tackle you can! Anyway, I could go on but let's talk sometime. This is quite doable if your job will permit it but you can't just cast lines and expect a good outcome. Having friends up here is a big help, and the ability to put the boat on a free mooring is a real Godsend at times. Life is too damn short and you never know when factors outside your control will prevent us from doing stuff like this. Once you make the decision and commitment to make your boat capable of living this way it then all boils down to time, money, and will.
