This song hits super close to home for me. Having to say goodbye and put down my little buddy a few years back was honestly one of the hardest things I've ever had to deal with. Leave it to Peter to pay homage to his childhood cat. 💚. As others have said, the lyrics are mostly vague metaphors throughout the song and don't directly mention his kitty.
Went thorugh the same in 2018 buddy. I had a vet come home to my house so she would not have to travel and fall ssleep in an unfamiliar place. It was five years ago this past thursday, May 25th. It took me a couple of years until I could talk about her without getting emotional. The only thing that will be worse than that day is when my old parents have to check in.
He said in an interview that he thought that no one would care about a grown man in his 30s crying about the death of his favorite cat, so he wrote this song and made it very implicit instead xD
"No one wants to hear a guy who's six-foot-eight with long black hair and fangs crying about his fuckin' cat, so I had to make it extremely metaphorical," the singer-bassist said of the song. "I have a huge problem with abandonment and loss, so I took it very seriously. I love animals. She used to sit on my chest while I was doing bench presses." I can't remember what the cat died of, but her name was Venus
Thanks to Pete Steele, whose sound i took like 6 long years (until "October Rust") to fall in love with, i was fortunate to happen upon "Lycia" the most enthralling & intoxicating (or to use his spot on words: "devastatingly beautiful") Band i had ever laid ears on - still holding my very soul hostage, twenty some years later. Peter Steele: (1995) "You should be familiar with Lycia. It’s dark, ambient Goth music. The last album is called A Day in the Stark Corner. I would like our next album to sound something like this. It is the most depressing thing I’ve ever heard in my life. If I put it on in the morning when I get up… I’m useless for the rest of the day. It makes me feel like killing myself. It’s like, why even bother getting dressed when I can just slit my wrists. Such simple hypnotic beats. Everything is drowned in reverb, yet the emotion comes through so loud and clear. It’s just devastatingly beautiful, as beautiful as it is devastating. That’s how I want to come through."
#1 Type O song! My late cat (2018 cancer) is hopefully purring in Pete´s lap with Nixon. Lauren´s cat obviosly felt the vibe to pay Peter´s grief for his cat. (I went through that from 2018 and two years to come)
Peter was SO excited about making a new Type O Negative album just before his death. I would have LOVED to have heard it if they had worked on it. If Peter was still alive today I have no doubt they’d still be going.
Ville Vallo is definitely a big Type O/Peter Steele fan. He did a live version of Black No. 1, iirc, for the Road Runner United (25th Anniversary of the record company) project. Not his best live performance, since he was seemingly pretty drunk. Can be found on YT, I reckon... Oh, and if you want more of the "I want to kill you and I'm going to celebrate..."-Peter Steele: there's no way around the 'Slow, Deep & Hard' album anymore! C'mon :)
Maybe Mocha can feel the love and grief. Peter wrote this about the death of his cat, a very beloved pet to him. He worked hard to keep that a bit ambivalent - it works on a lot of levels. I love this song... I also have to say that I think this song's music has one of the best examples of guitar and keyboards meshing into cohesion that anyone has ever done. Type O were always great with that, but this song is exquisite in that area and takes it to a whole other level. Happy Halloween!
A funeral dirge playing on a solemn, plodding walk to a graveside,on a cold and dreary day. A death in the family. Pretty heavy setting with organ innuendo and cat butt. Really enjoyed Type O month! 💚
Happy Halloween Lauren! 🎃 I'm catching up on your videos that I've missed. I'm sure it's already been said, but Peter wrote this one about his cat, Venus, when she died. Poor Peter, he loved his cats. Mocha's beautiful face right in the camera! I loved that! I hope you yave a happy Halloween. I think I'm going to need some more of Peter's asmr. 💚
Very appropriate for the channel, a song about the loss of a cat and a grandmother. This song is about how Peter Steele felt about the death of his beloved grandmother and her cat Weena, who he had since she died and he was a teenager, I think it's a tribute to both his grandmother and his cat. He had four cats after the death of both ladies, probably as a mechanism to accept the loss. * (Type O Negative is an obvious influence on the band HIM, Ville Valo has said it many times, and the band AFI).
Listening to this reminds me of how a couple of my exes tried to take their own life as they were going through a rough time (they’re both still alive and one of them is the mother of my daughter) and both times I did what I could to make sure that they didn’t die. My daughter’s mother and I coparent and our daughter is amazing. Also, my last ex and I still talk and see how each other are.
Instant like! This is my second favorite Type O Negative song, after World Coming Down, if I have to rank them. I’ve been jamming this one literally since 1993. This is one of those songs that I listen to if I’m feeling particularly depressed or down and it always helps me to feel better.🖤🖤🖤
💚💚As others have stated, Pete was inspired to write this by the death of his beloved cat :(. Pete always had several cats! Obviously, he also puts a romantic spin on it...much more masculine and relatable lol.
Hello Lauren, I LOVE how you LOVE Typ o negative, especially your favourite song Anesthesia. Pleeeease do a reaction of "Wite Slavery" of Type O . In my opinion one of their best and most underrated songs :-) Thanks, Fred
I have recommended Everyone I Love is Dead and Everything Dies, previously, but since you mention We Hate Everyone, I think you should do that next to mix things up.
I am an old generation X dude that has been listening to these guys from the get go. It’s the best time of year when I get to roll these CDs out! Your next bands are Dommin and the 69 eyes. My heart, your hands by Dommin. Wasting the Dawn by The 69 Eyes.
The first time I heard a song from Him I was in a cab. It was their cover of Chris Isaak`s Wicked Game and I thought, cool, another great cover from Type O Negative..... I suppose someone must asked Him`s singer if he was a fan of Typo O.....but I suppose he is a big fan of Pete Steele as a singer
Ville Valo is back with his solo project. Can't wait for Neon Noir! Very cool that you are a HIM fan. Thanks for all the Type O material. I can never get sick of these guys. The cat's tail was a nice touch to the video. Cats just do whatever they want 😸
This, to be honest, was never my favorite type o negative song, Blood and Fire was always more my jam .. but This Is a staple of there catalog. I think the lowest I've ever heard Peter Steele's voice go was in the intro to the song Nettie. I'm sure you'll get around to it at some point 🤘 Regardless thank you for giving this band the attention they deserve 🔥 🎃🔥
The fact your cat pitches up while Steele is singing about his cat dying is uncanny!
So this song is inspired by Peter Steele's favorite cat dying. It's a HEAVY metaphor!
Very fitting that the cat made an appearance!!

About his 18 year old cat venus. His cat Tito died in the morning, and later the same day Peter died.
So this was about a cat? I didn't know this at the time. But Mocha did. :D
He said in an interview that he thought that no one would care about a grown man in his 30s crying about the death of his favorite cat, so he wrote this song and made it very implicit instead xD
Yes!!! He loved his furbaby!

If Peter Steele had not died back in 2010 I have no doubt Type O Negative would still be making music today

It is funny that your Cat Shows up because Peter wrote this Song for he's Cat...
I'm absolutely positive that I'm always negative. 🙃
Thanks for an ad always awsome upload. ❤️
It’s about his childhood cat lmao so it was very fitting for your cat to be in this video.

That's Josh on the keys. Kenny is the guitarist/sometimes co-vocalist.
NO! The Dream is Dead is the Valentines Day song!!
Yeesss it’s perfect for Valentines

I'll just this now, for Xmas time you so should do Red Water, is one of the best Xmas songs.
Pete would have loved the fact that you had Mocha with you for this.
"Excuse me, waiter, I believe I ordered the Larger coffee."
You need to do Suspended in Dusk hun I guarantee you won't be disappointed!
Nah, Unsuccessfully Coping With the Natural Beauty of Infidelity by Type O negative is a Valentine's Day Song.
Hahahaha… I see what you did there. 🤣
Love the costume and I know you will eventually get to Burnt flowers fallen/In praise of Bacchus I love Bloody Kisses as well🩸💋
A deep part of me wants the part that goes "please don't" right before the guitar solo to transition right into "I know that my world is coming down"
THE best goddam grieving song ever.. strikes wayyy too close to home for me, but does it in style. dONT DIe
Peter really liked his cats 😿
Cat or no cat this song goes hard 🔥
Damn didn't remember this lyrics were depressing.
Hello Lauren, I LOVE how you LOVE Typ o negative, especially your favourite song Anesthesia.

9:14 that would be keyboardist Josh Silver
Steele me up, baby! Yeah!
............idk why I'm Austin Powers but okay 😅

Pretty kitty!
Told you!
The last HIM album I remember listening to was the one with the heartagram on the cover
Theatre of Tragedy - Cassandra
Yes to Theatre of Tragedy, but my suggestion is ...And When He Falleth (or any other song from Velvet Darkness They Fear)
The first time I heard a song from Him I was in a cab. It was their cover of Chris Isaak`s Wicked Game and I thought, cool, another great cover from Type O Negative..... I suppose someone must asked Him`s singer if he was a fan of Typo O.....but I suppose he is a big fan of Pete Steele as a singer

i love everything after, "pls don't go..." :) Maybe up the tempo with Prophet of Doom!
Hehehe awesome outfit😁👍👌😏
Song suggestion to react to -
Type O Negative
These Three Things
off of the album Dead Again
💚🖤💚🖤💚🖤
Maybe try Burnt Flowers Fallen next month, since it’s Autumn
Some Carnivore! Peter Steele on vocals. Pretty please 🙈

What’s up Lauren and Mocha? 🙋🏻♀️
Still would love the dream is dead reaction by type o negative and also I hate everyone or gravitational constant
Listen to Peters other band, Carnivore, starting with the song Angry Neurotic Catholics
It's a good song, but not my favorite either. Great video! It was fun to see Mocha and the return of the hoodie!
Katatonia - Nephilim
Ok, he may have been inspired to write this because of the death of his cat, but this song is definitely not about a cat, lol
That song sucked, but thumbs up for the cute cat
Nice reaction, but your custom… you looks like a Panda.
You say that like it's a bad thing. lol
@@MusicCatsandCoffee no, it’s cute….
Bloody Kisses is a bit too slow for me and drags on too much.
No, HIM came after TON.
