How did I not discover you earlier! Wealth of knowledge here. Im doing dense backyard gardening too and kinda worried about how it will be in a couple years
Welcome to the channel! I’m glad you have found it informative. I’ve been practicing high density planting for several years now and am very pleased thus far. I believe if you follow general high density planting techniques you will be pleased with the results. Thank you for visiting!
They were well fertilized (only use organic fertilizers). Unfortunately, both the Coffeecake and Chocolate persimmons died last winter. Only the Fuyu survived. I replanted with another Fuyu variety. It seems to do better in my area.
This is my 1st year having my Fuyu. It’s flowering so I’m excited! Hopefully it holds a majority of the flowers. Thanks for sharing, now I know what to look fwd to.
I’m glad you enjoyed the video. The Fuyu is one of my favorite fruit trees. The fruit is excellent in flavor. Thanks for visiting and best of luck with yours.
From my understanding the chocolate persimmon is non astringent without any cross pollination but the coffee cake has to soft due to it being astringent unless pollinated
You are correct. Initially, I thought the Chocolate was an astringent variety, but with further review I found that it is a non-astringent variety. And yes, the Coffee cake does require cross-pollination. All have good flavor, but I liked the Fuyu best. It also has the advantage that it can be eaten when firm like an apple or you can wait until soft and jelly like. Either way it is sweet with very good flavor. Thank you for watching!
@@Zone10aBackyardOrchard the fuyu is the best! I bought a chocolate yesterday and learned it cause the fuyu to be seeded and astringent. I’m like oh no back to the store you go 😂. Great video!
The Chocolate and Coffeecake persimmons were purchased from an online nursery (Raintreenursery.com). The Fuyu from a local nursery. Unfortunately both the Chocolate and Coffeecake did not survive the following season after the harvest in this video. I don’t think it was due to poor quality trees, but rather they may have not been suitable for my growing zone. If you haven’t already done so, pls see my recently uploaded video “August Backyard Orchard tour”. I talk a little about them and you can see what they look like now. Thanks for visiting!
