Yes, he seems like a really great guy and I love his videos, I always learn something from him! He has such a passion for the details and tiny things in the builds he does it is fun to watch. Haha Ampro was like, ‘I have this plastic crack, I wonder if Addam needs it?’ 😂 great addition to the collection mate, and in answer to where the oil goes? ‘The oil fairies! They come out at night, mostly’
Yeah, he saw the wall and thought this dude will buy it! He was right LOL!!! I was not shopping for anything like this but when a vintage truck like this with a documented story behind it presents itself to you it is not something I could pass up! I would have regretted it a lot if I had! The story makes it for me, the truck would be easy enough to find on fleabay eventually but one with a documented story on RUclips and unique parts on it... shut up and take my my money!! I think you are right about the oil fairies... slick little buggers!!
I will have a short run video soon. I have to source a few things before I can do any serious running with it though. It did pretty well on the shakedown run so I am pleased with the setup!
I know from many this is one of the most requested things from them to be re-released. I am not sure it would happen but they would sell like crazy if they did!!! Fingers crossed as I know there are a ton of folks wanting one of them.
It is a one of a kind for me and I love that is has a documented story behind it. That just makes it so much cooler for me! I am really happy to have both a cool vintage truck like this in the collection but also one with some story behind it and some cool parts and pieces on it as well!
The story is the coolest part to me. I could find another used one or possibly a new in box one out there but they won't have the cool story behind them like this one does!!
Really cool truck full stop, but to have the ampro test bed that’s even cooler. Look forward to se it running. The phots at the end of the video looked superb!
Thanks Andy, I think the story behind it is what makes it super cool. I could have found one on eBay and gotten a truck but to get a truck with a story and some documented history behind it is over the top cool! plus it is chocked full of cool stuff as well with his parts and the stealth transmission swap... It all makes for a really great truck and one I am super happy to have in the collection! I still need to source a few bits for it to make it complete but I am working on that now. I did run it briefly the other day for a quick shakedown and that video will be out soon. there are a few minor issues I need to resolve but all in all it ran great!
Awesome rig.!! You got me wanting to get into some old fixer uppers. I bet the whole event from purchase to completion is amazing. To bring an old RC back to its previous glory is must be a great sense of accomplishment.
It is fun to see them back out running around! This one was easy as all I had to do was add in a few tiny parts, the electronics and rebuild the shock and it was good. I still need to source a few more little bits and some tires for it but I am working on that now! You do have to be careful diving into to some of these old kits as parts can be very hard and/or very expensive to find! I know some parts like tires can be more than some modern kits go for! This one is not that bad but a good set of tires for it is not cheap at all so do your home work before getting into the old car game! I still mainly do the re-releases of kits just so I don't have to worry about brittle old plastic and sourcing vintage parts but there is a lot of fun an adventure searching and finding them though!
@@AddamsPlayground just wondering... will re-release parts like tires fit on the OG cars.?? I'm sure most people want to keep it OG, but just incase the part is 10X the normal price.??
@@AMAZINGRC yeas in almost all cases the re-re parts fit the old ones. but in cases like this truck there is no re-re of it yet and may not be so parts for these are pricey! I am certainly not trying to steer you away from them at all but just wanting you to be aware depending on the kit and the availability of both use and ne parts it can be a real money pit to get something refurbished and in good shape!
They are an awesome looking and running truck, but are prone breaking parts! Thankfully this one has a lot of the Ampro parts on it so it is much tougher than stock. My first real truck was the Super Blackfoot. I have one I will be getting cleaned up and rebuilt on here soon I hope!

@@AddamsPlayground You SHOULD be excited!! What a Grab! I had one back in 89, along with the Madcap... sold both. 😭 My biggest regret. #1 and #2 on my Dream List now. The Madcap isn't even special... I just really liked it. The King Cab... at our Track, we invented a Class of racing "nearly stock" King Cabs. Those were the ONLY Tamiya Shocks that WORKED. With Associated 40w Shock Oil, I could drop mine from shoulder height, and it would smush into the ground as if it was the plushest pillow! Barely a rebound, NO bounce! Hey bud, thanks! See, I was able to get a cool old Tamiya race truck in the end also so it all worked out! I may have missed out on the F150 but this one fell in my lap in it's place! take it easy and have a great weekend!
I have taken it out for a test run and I will post that one soon. It is going to need a few things for a serious run out there but I am working on that currently!!
Sorry for the slow response but I had to get out in the garage to measure. It is a Team Blue Groove body and roll bar. I think you can get just the roll bar section. At the cab it is 135mm at the bottom and 115 mm at the top in width and looking at it from the side the bottom (including the piece to stick it to the bed) is 85mm and the top is 25mm front to back.
@@AddamsPlayground Excellent. I have the new Pro-Line body + the original Tamiya King Cab sticker sheet and since there is no roll bar, I thought I'd compare your dimensions to what I am working with. Thanks for your help!
Thank you sir!! I am not sure if they will re-release it unless they find a away to beef up the transmission. It is not that they were terribly delicate but the trans came from a much smaller and lighter buggy and with the heavier chassis, bigger tires and being mainly used in racing the transmissions did not last from what I know about them. I feel like they would have to fix that before re-releasing it but they have shocked me with poor decisions before so who knows! LOL!!!

@@n22pdf Bruiser would be awesome but so very pricey! Monster racer would be col too but also a pricey option! I have a few more re-releases to get my hands on first. I have to stay in good standing s with the financial advisor or she will cut me off and no new toys! She is my RC purchasing limiter, without her throttling me I would be in tons of trouble!!!
I actually still have one of these. I bought it new when I was a kid. I remember it came as nothing but a giant box of parts. I remeber trimming all of the parts in the kit with a utility knife, and wondering what the heck was going on when I had to assemble the ball bearings into the diff. Last time I ran it was around 1996 and I think I broke a tie rod for the steering. It's been sitting in a box with all of my gear for it, for over 25 years now. Do you guys know where I could find the plastic tie rod ends and the metal ball portion that they attach to?
Finding the original parts might be difficult but you can make some. If you get a set of the 5MM open ball connectors and some 3mm stainless all thread and make some new steering rods. The part number for the rod ends you can use is 54868 or 54869 and can be found on eBay. The ball studs are part number 50592 and can be found on eBay. Tamiya lists the 3x42mm shaft with part number 44025 but it is out of stock and I found no listings on eBay. The all thread you can find through hardware stores or places like Amazon or maybe even you local hobby shop. It will be a little bit of fiddling to make them from the all thread but it'll be worth it once it is fixed!
@@AddamsPlayground Sweet! Thanks for the part numbers! I remember I put a Pocket Rocket (17 or 21 turn but can't remember) and an electronic speed control in it. Those were pretty cherry upgrades in 1990. It would roast the tires on pavement and leave burn out marks!
I am surprised the rear suspension arms didn't twist up on you!!! They seem like the will never break but are also made of licorice they are so flexible! The Ampro arms on this one are way tougher feeling! I hope you can get it back up and running and take it out for some fun!
Very cool!!! It is like owning a little piece of history in the RC world. Supposedly, the Monster Beetle tires fit on the King Cab... Not quite the originals but far less expensive than having MCI racing make custom ones! Maybe Marwanrc has some equivalents? They mainly do Kyosho though...I will keep my eyes open for them!
Thanks, it really is a neat truck and I am so happy he reached out to little ol me and and offered it for sale. I am sure I can find something to go on them and look reasonably stock(ish)! The stock ones are so unique it will be hard but I am sure with some google-foo and some ebay crawling I will come across something reasonable.
What a cool truck!, it’s funny because body on, it looks like a mini monster truck but with the body off it almost feels like it could be a long travel rally truck like the slash or senton. Neat design! How old is this particular truck?
The King Cab was released in 1989 and only had the one release so they are fairly rare to start with but add on the story to this one and it is really special (to me at least)! I love that it has documented history behind it, the story is what sets this apart from any other out there! Funny you say it looks like a mini monster truck as the sister truck to this was release in 1990 and was the the Hi-Lux Monster Racer! basically they swapped the Nissan body for a Toyota and put the Blitzer Beetle style tires on it but the chassis remained the same.
Yes, I believe that it correct and the bigger tires, heavier truck and generally being raced did not lend itself to a long lasting transmission! the stealth should hold up to pretty much anything I throw at it though! I am not going to beat on it and (spoiler alert) the 21t did really well in the first run of it! There are a few small things I need to get and finish up as well and get some new tires for it but I am super happy to have it and the story behind it makes it all that more special!!
It is a really cool truck and I want to get it back out for a drive but I need to find the slipper clutch pad and the only one I have found it ridonkulously expensive so I am shopping around to find another! I want to drive it more but I refuse to spend that much on single slipper pad disk! I will find one, just need the right listing to show up! Since it is for the RC10 stealth transmission everyone want to gouge you for them!

Thanks Nanni, the stars aligned just right with this one!! I am very happy to have a unique truck in my collection like this. The story behind it makes it much more special for me!
That's awesome! ampros great too I custom made a part and he copied it for me and made it so everyone can buy and use it.
Yes, he seems like a really great guy and I love his videos, I always learn something from him! He has such a passion for the details and tiny things in the builds he does it is fun to watch. Also the 3D modeling I am envious of an would love to learn but just have not had the patience to learn it well enough to be any good at it! I am super excited to have both a cool vintage truck like this in the collection but also one with some story behind it and some cool parts and pieces on it as well!
Awesome king cab looking forward to the run
I will have a short run video soon. I have to source a few things before I can do any serious running with it though. It did pretty well on the shakedown run so I am pleased with the setup!
My first rc. I want one again sooo bad
I know from many this is one of the most requested things from them to be re-released. I am not sure it would happen but they would sell like crazy if they did!!! Fingers crossed as I know there are a ton of folks wanting one of them.
Awesome backstory to the truck! Excellent pickup Addam!👍😊
It is a one of a kind for me and I love that is has a documented story behind it. That just makes it so much cooler for me! I could have found one on eBay but it would have just been a truck, this is a truck with history and meaning! I am super excited it did! I am really happy to have both a cool vintage truck like this in the collection but also one with some story behind it and some cool parts and pieces on it as well!
Very cool story and awsome RC !! The vintage RCs are awesome 👍
The story is the coolest part to me. I could find another used one or possibly a new in box one out there but they won't have the cool story behind them like this one does!!
@@AddamsPlayground totally agree it's the background that has value
That was my first real rc truck, broke the frame all the time but it started a fun hobby for me
They are an awesome looking and running truck, but are prone breaking parts! Thankfully this one has a lot of the Ampro parts on it so it is much tougher than stock. My first real truck was the Super Blackfoot. I have one I will be getting cleaned up and rebuilt on here soon I hope!
Awesome truck and vid Addam!
Thanks, I am really happy to have both a cool vintage truck like this in the collection but also one with some story behind it and some cool parts and pieces on it as well!
Nice addition to your fleet.
Thank you!! It was kind of an unexpected thing but one that I am glad did happen! I am really happy to have both a cool vintage truck like this in the collection but also one with some story behind it and some cool parts and pieces on it as well!
OMFG!!!! Alberto said I had dibbs on that, 5 years ago!!! Guess he forgot.... That one is MY HOLY GRAIL!! Great find. Too bad he didn't include one of his rare Novak Rooster ESC with it!
..... I even offered to trade my A-Stamp, 40 year old RC10 for it. He wouldn't.
You caught it at the right time!
Sorry i got your grail! I 1000% lucked into for sure! I was just shocked at first he made a comment on my FB post to begin with but then to end up with this truck from it was a complete shocker! It was funny we were driving around running errands I am texting back and forth with him and by the time we were done with our errands it was a done deal! I am super excited to have it in the collection!
It took another 15 years for anyone to make a more compliant suspension in RC.
BTW, Team Associated X-Rings. If you don't have them, get them!
@@CarminesRCTipsandTricks Thanks for the tip on the x-rings! I know my excitement may not show through on camera but I am tickled pink with it!! I have just sat there at the bench looking it over and fiddling with it a bunch even before working on it at all!!
@@AddamsPlayground I believe it!!
Cool truck had one as a kid 😊
Thank you! I drooled over ads of this and the Monster Racer back in the day! I only got to see one in action back then and it was flying past other trucks and buggies it was out there with and I was so impressed!! I am super excited to have both a cool vintage truck like this in the collection but also one with some story behind it and some cool parts and pieces on it as well!
cool rc and story, have a great weekend brother
Thanks brother! It was a lucky chain of events that happened and I am super happy to have it in the collection. I think having the story behind it makes it way cooler than any other one out there! A small bit of RC history in more ways than one!!
@@AddamsPlayground 😁👍
Thats a cool looking truck Addam!🙂👍 Always liked the look of the Kingcab.👌
Thanks, me too but I did not expect to be getting one any time soon! This all just kind of happened and I am super happy it did! It went from a simple FB post about the shelving in the garage to getting a tracking number fairly quickly!!! I am really happy to have both a cool vintage truck like this in the collection but also one with some story behind it and some cool parts and pieces on it as well!
Another great looking addition to the collection Addam 👌
1st thing to catch my eye was the signature yellow Tamiya shocks, such a cool looking rc mate 👍🦘🇦🇺
Thanks! This one was made.special by the background of it and the cool hop-ups it has! It is not your average King Cab and the story really makes it special to me. I am super happy to have it in the collection. I have a few small parts to source to make it 100% but I'm working on those!
@@AddamsPlayground
Yeh it's a special King Cab with its hop ups and custom made bits n pieces alright👌
So many mods with it's gear box etc, a great conversation piece to have on the shelf to talk about, lucky we have youtube etc, if I tried to explain it to my friends they'd think I've lost the plot and ready for the funny farm 🤣.
Thanks for sharing the video mate👌
@@outbackrcaustralia4895 sounds me explaining stuff to my wife, I get the nod and smile a lot. That's when I know she is done listening about RC stuff she has zero interest in!! 😂

Ohhh that's so funny 😂
Yep it's that look that gives them away every time haha
Very cool that you ended up with that truck! I thought that was the Ampro truck from the thumbnail.
I. Super happy to have it. Getting an old king cab is great but getting one like this with a cool story behind it and all the cool parts on it is so much cooler!! I am tickled to have it to say the least!!
Hey Addam, that is a really cool story about a wonderful RC. Loads of lovely bonuses on that chassis too 😎 Looking forward to seeing it running
I am super happy that I was able to get it and it is a wonderful truck to add to the collection! There are a lot of neat things about it and it all adds to the story which is the coolest part to me! it is not any old truck I could have purchased from eBay but one that has documented stories along with it! Very cool and it did run pretty well, some very minor issues but it did make it around the track for a while the other day so that will be posted soon!
Cool looking great video one more back to life again well done addam
Yeah this one was made even more special with the background and story involved with it's history and hop-ups. I have taken it out for a shakedown run and it pretty well. I do have to source a few parts before I can do a serious run with it. It did very well for it's first outing, that video should be out soon.
Very cool find awesome truck. 👏
Thanks! It all kind of just happened and it went from a simple FB post to a racking number all of a sudden LOL!! I am super happy to have both a vintage truck but also one with a story and some really neat bits and pieces to it in the collection!
What a great addition to the collection! The King Cab is a really cool looking racing truck and it’s great that yours came with some awesome history and upgrades. Looking forward to seeing the running video.👍😊
Thanks!! It really is a special truck and the story of it all make it way cooler than any other one I may have bought from eBay! I am really happy to have both a cool vintage truck like this in the collection but also one with some story behind it and some cool parts and pieces on it as well!
Hello from southeast alaska sweet build bro
Hey bud, thanks! See, I was able to get a cool old Tamiya race truck in the end also so it all worked out! I may have missed out on the F150 but this one fell in my lap in it's place! take it easy and have a great weekend!
Will you run it on the track? Will be interesting to see how well it performs.
I have taken it out for a test run and I will post that one soon. It is going to need a few things for a serious run out there but I am working on that currently!!
Nice truck. Are you able to advise the approximate width of the roll bar and where one can be found for purchase?
Very Fu@cking Cool Addam!!!!!!! Plus it's a truck we don't see too often (re-release kit coming maybe?). Great video!!!
LOL!!!
@@AddamsPlayground Everything you just said is so true, pay a premium for piss poor quality (re-release kits).
Wow love these 🤩👍🚴
ME too but I did not expect to get one anytime soon! This all kind of fell together by chance and I am super excited it did! I am really happy to have both a cool vintage truck like this in the collection but also one with some story behind it and some cool parts and pieces on it as well!
@@AddamsPlayground Yeah definitely a great addition and with the custom made parts even better :) Bruiser next ;) or Hi Lux monster racer :)
How did you manage to get him to send you that truck?
He contacted me to see if I was interested in it
What a cool truck!, it’s funny because body on, it looks like a mini monster truck but with the body off it almost feels like it could be a long travel rally truck like the slash or senton.
Those came with the Astute transmissions, if I'm correct. Those are fine for buggies, not with trucks like that!
I have a Nissan King Cab Rc too
It is a really cool truck and I want to get it back out for a drive but I need to find the slipper clutch pad and the only one I have found it ridonkulously expensive so I am shopping around to find another! I want to drive it more but I refuse to spend that much on single slipper pad disk! I will find one, just need the right listing to show up! Since it is for the RC10 stealth transmission everyone want to gouge you for them!
How much was that motor?
$20
I have a bunch of brushed motors from back in the day you can have 2 or 3
Thank you very much for the offer! Send me an email and we can chat about it, you can find it on the "About" tab on my main channel page. I don't have much from back in the day unfortunately! I was very hard on things and not a lot of money for replacements so things usually were pretty well worn out and tattered by the time they broke and got replaced (or bodged back together). Thank you again for the offer, I do really appreciate it!

Got a chance to buy one of these for $800 US… Really want it, but it’s a bit expensive.
Yeah $800 is a bit much! I mean if it was in absolute pristine condition with out a blemish on it maybe but in built condition and signs of use that is kind of steep. Sadly they demand super high prices as they have never been re-released and I doubt they will, at least not one the original chassis. It all comes down to budget and desire....
@@AddamsPlayground It’s new in box. From Japan.
@@Triggered-RC That is not bad then. Any of the NIB vintage kits are going to automatically increase the value of them over built versions.
