Radio!
Best day any day with
John.
Such a treat. Felt like a fly on the wall just listening to way back then. I miss him everyday.
Prine's comment about how few stations played his stuff back then, WHFS being a big exception, was spot on. I was stationed at Ft. Meade from '71 to '75 and HFS was all I ever listened to. Early during that time period is when I first heard Prine, on HFS, and was an instant fan. Even then, I was late to the show since they played mostly from his "greatest hits" album, Prime Prine. And I think from his Common Sense (?) album, also.
The bluegrass crowd had already picked up on Prine's genius, having covered his Souvenirs and Paradise, albeit "grassed" up, by the time I took note.
Thanks for sharing this, Thomas. Many great memories I have from WHFS, of which Prine is front and center. You folks were a great source of entertainment and enlightenment when I was there. But I've yet to find Great Magonagle Seaside Park. LOL
Why so many stations do not play John's music? I‘ m curious about that. I am in China, different culture, but John should definitely deserves more.
@@linli5292 -- I think it's because most radio stations are formatted and John's music didn't really fit very nicely into a particular format --it was unique. Luckily, the station where I first heard him, WHFS, at the time was a "no format format" station and proud of it. They played all genres of music and weren't hidebound by a rigid format. That's my guess, anyway.
a guy that just keeps rolling john prine!
