anyone else notice the song playing in the weird room was from everywhere at the end of time by the caretaker, possibly the most unsettling album of all time
@@jbthekeeper2509 That's what I was thinking too. The whole sorta... weird, non-linear fluidness of how time/space work in this game (the random teleporting and seemingly non-euclidean locations) seem to be similar to descriptions of entangled, jumbled-up memories dementia patients are believed to experience. Especially how GLaDOs speaks in such a strange/broken manner, everything is so dark, the g-man looking shadow is impossible to determine exactly WHO it is, making it seem like a placeholder.... reminds me of that bojack horseman episode about dementia. I really feel like it's possible that the main character is an aperture test subject who is reliving twisted versions of their memories due to dementia. Or maybe it's just a spooky mod using spooky music. But who knows?
The Caretaker songs I heard throughout the video was 'It's Just a Burning Memory', 'Burning Despair Does Ache' and 'Stage 5 Advanced Plaque Entanglements' I think there was stage 6 in the GLaDOS bossfight.

To be honest… yeah. One of my friends wanted a chair to fly at the player and that idea spiraled into the chair becoming a huge point in both the story and ARG
I believe that, but I like to think this is a nightmare she had during her extended relaxation between 1 and 2, it’s her brain trying to process all the psychological torture they went through, and changing some of the memories becuase when it comes to torture often times the worst of it is wayyy after the event, and it’s the brain remembering it. The PTSD can cause a lot of pain, way more than any white room or empty facility.
I think it's the noise that makes this mod scary the most. Sure, the corpses, the creepy people following you, the lighting can be scary... but the corrupted noises all around you can be terrifying.
The fact that Gladdy isn’t there, or that she is but she’s just.. dead. Is horrifying. Please note that the song playing at 7:57 is Everything At the End of Time, which is a part of an album that is six hours long. The album focuses on all the stages of dementia to the very end where the person dies. This could mean that the player we play as, or the person Adam, could have dementia. Or it could be an Easter Egg and I’ve been overthinking all of this.

It is even used in Portal Stories: Mel as the "chime" that plays when Mel falls asleep in that Short Term Relaxation Vault towards the start of the game.
it genuinely could be tho. like, gman can definitely do that shit. im sure he would be able to do all this stuff that you see in the mod. and you know what? i think he'd do it. he would definitely bring this kind of psychological torture on someone. i dont know why, but i am certain that gman could, and would do this kind of stuff.
It always amazes me how much lighting, music, atmosphere can change something so much....... im a wuss so i had to watch it on the lowest possible volume :< but man this looks great. Also i dont think ive ever missed glados’s voice that much before
Newer observations I made: 1) The Companion Cube isn't an actual companion cube, it's a Weighted Storage Cube with hearts drawn on it. 2) The first song in the dream sequences is A1 It's Just a Burning Memory, the second is either from stages 2 or 3, and the last is K1 Advanced Plaque Entanglements, all from the album Everywhere at the End of Time by The Caretaker 3) This could be from Doug's perspective, having flashbacks most likely caused by his PTSD (which would've developed during the events of Portal)
Yknow once you take away Glados’s voice this game suddenly gets a completely different tone, it goes from happy and thoughtful to scary and thoughtful i think it has to do with the loneliness and confusion “why am i alone? What are these ‘dream sequences’? Who are these mysterious people?” Plus sometimes you can hear Glados’s voice but heavily edited but just enough to where you can hear “kill you” being the first voice you have ever heard followed up by “neurotoxin” later on. Glados really does feel more like a threat now and someone actually scary
I kept thinking back of fan renditions of Glados' chasis that looks like a human torso hanging upside down. Seeing it flail and struggle is really unnerving. Especially if you take Caroline in mind.
I like how this isn’t necessarily a horror story as much as it is a story that’s unsettling because it’s different than what we’re used to- because this time, we’re not alone.
Portal 1 was already creepy IMO, I know portal 2 had the rattman speaking in the walls, but portal 1 was so empty its was uncomfortable. And this made it creepier
Alrighty, well... coming from someone who played this before the full version was out, I have to say I'm happy to watch someone *else* finish it. Good lord I could NOT.
Ok since nobody would timestamp these EATEOT songs I'll do it 7:55 A1 - It's just a burning memory 8:20 F4 - Burning Despair Does Ache 8:39 K1 - Advanced Plaque Entanglements 11:10 H1 - Post-awareness Confusions (Hell sirens segment)
Theory: the dead test subject in that one room is you, the creepy guy uses G-man animations, and in the game he tries to both cause and stop certain events. The ones with smoke are really neurotoxin, as all the things GLaDOS says involve neurotoxin. This implies you are having an out-of-body experience of sorts, you died and now your ghost roams the halls, and the last remaining living person, ratman, attempts to save you/your ghost, perhaps by laying you to rest? Or perhaps you are in a test subjects body that you stole, and the sequences as Adam are memories. This explains why you can’t die, you’re already dead so the ghost simply saves you by leaving the body and joining a new one. Still, the person saving you is ratman or G-man, and you are simply waiting to pass on, which happens when you get neurotoxin(how you would have originally died) as you see one of the corpse subjects in the end sequence.
this reminds me of the test footage for portal 2, where GLaDOS was crazy and could crawl around, I imagined this took place between portal 1 and 2, everything is just starting to break down and neurotoxin is leaking into the air slowly, driving anyone who is still alive insane, but not immediately killing them, parts of GLaDOS' mind are still active, but not completely, she's barely aware of anything, this concept is just terrifying
I think a big part of portals fear factor is the isolation and seeing other people in the game kinda kills it for me. Also that dialogue talking about the Morality core being corrupted really shattered my immersion because there's no way that scientists, even Aperture ones, would talk like that. But other than that, the mod's atmosphere was absolutely impeccable.
only like 6 minutes in so far but the way this jumps around non-linearly and exaggerrates the usettling vibe portal 1 had already makes this feel like you're playing through Chell's nightmares
In the flashbacks/dreams there is an album that plays (caretaker) and the album is all about memory loss the album starts with relaxed retro music and gets more and more corrupted as it goes
Interesting note! the song that plays in the observing room at around 8:25 belongs to the artist The Caretaker! and is part of a series of albums depicting Alzheimer's and Parkinson's'. The complete experience is around 6 hours of terrifying music, slowly devolving into base tones. I highly recommend it! the project is called, "Everywhere at the End of Time" this sample is played as the first song in the album.
This is great! I feel that the ending might have been even creepier though if the personnel changed to 3 not 0, to show that there's still something there...
I love this type of horror. Relying on theme and atmosphere and the feeling of uncertainty, rather than just having a big bad man scream at you every now and again.
I played this mod myself. Amazing! The maker obviously knew that the player would get used to the horror by the end, and took a slightly more hopeful/actiony note, while still being a bit scary
It would be cool if they made something like this for Portal 2 as well, but if I didn't hear GLaDOS roasting me about being fat every chamber I'd be way more scared.
I just wish wheatly was in portal 1 because seeing it always with me in game. if he for instance were in one of the test chambers terrifyed From the sounds, the player can grab him and will be like “OH LORD THIS TEST SUBJECT IS DEAD” “WE HAVE TO GET OUT OF HERE” Or something like that would’ve occurred If it were with the portal 1 red core oh hell no I guess lol

Never have i been more happy to see an ad so i had a break from this video holy crap this is unsettling as hell
plot twist:
the dude is the G-Man
"Quite a nasty piece you managed, i am impressed."
erectin' a statue of a G-Man
it genuinely could be tho.
like, gman can definitely do that shit. im sure he would be able to do all this stuff that you see in the mod.
and you know what? i think he'd do it. he would definitely bring this kind of psychological torture on someone.
i dont know why, but i am certain that gman could, and would do this kind of stuff.
"There is no platform, how am i meant to escape?"
i got bad news for you.
It always amazes me how much lighting, music, atmosphere can change something so much....... im a wuss so i had to watch it on the lowest possible volume :< but man this looks great. Also i dont think ive ever missed glados’s voice that much before
This madlad really hearted every comment, now that's dedication.
Thx it is getting harder ever since this video started getting more attention
The commentary words were so cute. “I’ll look down just in case” 😭🥺
Newer observations I made:
1) The Companion Cube isn't an actual companion cube, it's a Weighted Storage Cube with hearts drawn on it.
2) The first song in the dream sequences is A1 It's Just a Burning Memory, the second is either from stages 2 or 3, and the last is K1 Advanced Plaque Entanglements, all from the album Everywhere at the End of Time by The Caretaker
3) This could be from Doug's perspective, having flashbacks most likely caused by his PTSD (which would've developed during the events of Portal)
you: *picks up orange portal gun*
glados: you >:(
@ForkyYT scary :(
Yknow once you take away Glados’s voice this game suddenly gets a completely different tone, it goes from happy and thoughtful to scary and thoughtful i think it has to do with the loneliness and confusion “why am i alone? What are these ‘dream sequences’? Who are these mysterious people?” Plus sometimes you can hear Glados’s voice but heavily edited but just enough to where you can hear “kill you” being the first voice you have ever heard followed up by “neurotoxin” later on. Glados really does feel more like a threat now and someone actually scary
I kept thinking back of fan renditions of Glados' chasis that looks like a human torso hanging upside down. Seeing it flail and struggle is really unnerving. Especially if you take Caroline in mind.
Worse than havig a psycho A.I talking to you the entire way, its having nobody talking at all
Yea true
He:
is comfy
Is spooky
But most importantly...
He protecc
I like how this isn’t necessarily a horror story as much as it is a story that’s unsettling because it’s different than what we’re used to- because this time, we’re not alone.
Portal 1 was already creepy IMO, I know portal 2 had the rattman speaking in the walls, but portal 1 was so empty its was uncomfortable. And this made it creepier
7:55 Everywhere At The End of TIme moment
Alrighty, well... coming from someone who played this before the full version was out, I have to say I'm happy to watch someone *else* finish it. Good lord I could NOT.
Ok since nobody would timestamp these EATEOT songs I'll do it
7:55 A1 - It's just a burning memory
8:20 F4 - Burning Despair Does Ache
8:39 K1 - Advanced Plaque Entanglements
11:10 H1 - Post-awareness Confusions (Hell sirens segment)
Portal is creepy enough, with this, its nightmare fuel
but hey, at least the ending was cool
It kind of looks like Ratman impossible but he’s in hiding and what happens GLaDOS had to be something bad because she wouldn’t let this happen
I love having my eardrums detonated
Me halfway through: I WANT MY MURDER ROBOT BACK!
I only now realized how creepy is Portal is without GLaDOS
this reminds me of the test footage for portal 2, where GLaDOS was crazy and could crawl around, I imagined this took place between portal 1 and 2, everything is just starting to break down and neurotoxin is leaking into the air slowly, driving anyone who is still alive insane, but not immediately killing them, parts of GLaDOS' mind are still active, but not completely, she's barely aware of anything, this concept is just terrifying
Honestly portal 1.5 would be a fun horror game
It really would, I've loved that concept since seeing the cut stuff from portal 2 and this just brought that uneasy feeling back
ok that first level really set shit up for disaster
Nobody:
Me:
Okay GLaDOS, this isn’t funny anymore... PleaSE STOP!!!
Plot twist: Glados was pranking the player the whole time
STOP PUTTING NOBODY BEFORE YOUR JOKES AAAAAAAAA
Also we do not need the me to know its you
What chell sees instead of what is actually happening
I think a big part of portals fear factor is the isolation and seeing other people in the game kinda kills it for me. Also that dialogue talking about the Morality core being corrupted really shattered my immersion because there's no way that scientists, even Aperture ones, would talk like that.
But other than that, the mod's atmosphere was absolutely impeccable.
Glados: kill you
Me: *OH SO NOW YOU TALK*
8:10 Hey... isn't that a slowed down version of Heartaches? The same one in everywhere at the end of time?
*slaps roof of mod* this bad boy can hold so much *Caretaker*
Damn. I loved the use of everywhere at the end of time in the flashbacks to convey the inevitable disaster of glados
tbh most chilling thing was the music at 7:55, that song, oh god that song
Ok
@@tearindrop673 Ok
bro the part where you hear an elevator opening out of sight was so fucking terrifying holy shit
chell:gets dual portal device
glados:ù̶̡̬͓̮̩͔͚̏̍͜ͅ
"Of course! What's the worst thing that can happen?" Laughting my ass off
I love how sometimes you just. Stand There. like at 1:54. It's like I can feel the .___. as you process what's going on. it's great.
only like 6 minutes in so far but the way this jumps around non-linearly and exaggerrates the usettling vibe portal 1 had already makes this feel like you're playing through Chell's nightmares
I LOVE when RUclips recommends me this quality of content.
Great mod + Great commentary = Awesome video

Thx :)
In the flashbacks/dreams there is an album that plays (caretaker) and the album is all about memory loss the album starts with relaxed retro music and gets more and more corrupted as it goes
This mod made me notice how creepy portal is without GlaDOS's slightly funny dialogue.
7:56 the music of everywhere at the end of time make's it even darker-
Interesting note! the song that plays in the observing room at around 8:25 belongs to the artist The Caretaker! and is part of a series of albums depicting Alzheimer's and Parkinson's'. The complete experience is around 6 hours of terrifying music, slowly devolving into base tones. I highly recommend it! the project is called, "Everywhere at the End of Time" this sample is played as the first song in the album.
Fuck that's creepy. And no actual encounter/jumpscare entity except the chair!
Very well done mod.
The fact they added Everywhere at the End of Time was really cool
This is great! I feel that the ending might have been even creepier though if the personnel changed to 3 not 0, to show that there's still something there...
Yea
Anyone listening to the soundtrack:
It seems we are at the end of time.
You know you're in for a good time when The Caretaker's songs start to play....
The first Portal game was already very scary, but this is just horrifying.
Still scarier than any modern horror game.
I just wish wheatly was in portal 1 because seeing it always with me in game. if he for instance were in one of the test chambers terrifyed
From the sounds, the player can grab him and will be like
“OH LORD THIS TEST SUBJECT IS DEAD”
“WE HAVE TO GET OUT OF HERE”
Or something like that would’ve occurred
If it were with the portal 1 red core oh hell no I guess lol
GLaDOS is now testing your sanity instead of skills
