Thanks Bud for your content! Seems to me SmartWings are really gathering popularity! I wish that the Edge drive was native to SmartWings. With so many devices going with Matter, I’ve been hesitant to buy anything, does it have an edge driver, etc., wish standards an exactly what direction Samsung was going in would be clear. I’m still using lots of devices that still work with the Groovy IDE.
About an Edge Driver, check in the video description below the video. I provide a link to my website with instructions for accessing and downloading the driver. It is very simple to install. Also, note that these shades are Matter compatible. If you have a SmartThings V3 Hub or an Aeotec Hub, these hubs have a built in Thread Border Router that will create a Thread network for Matter devices. If you have a SmartThings V2 Hub you will need a Matter controller that includes a Thread Border Router. You can still connect Thread devices in SmartThings using a third-party Thread Border router. See ( Here : tinyurl.com/yckr6kut ) for more information.
SmartWings sent me the black shades. You can order sample fabric samples via this link: www.smartwingshome.com/products/outdoor-fabric-samples?ref=17 SmartWings offers a varaity of colors to choose from.
Hi Bud. Thanks for this great overview video. I'm looking at installation of outdoor shades on a conservatory which is South facing and becoming like a sauna in the recent uk summers. Do you think these provide a decent amount of shade? They quote only allowing 5% of light through but your video made them look quite clear. I'm keen on using the smartthings automation to shade the room based on the weather and this seems ideal to me if the level of shade is sufficient. Thanks as always.
Hi Justin. Their website says "5% Openness". I'm not really sure what that means. They also state "Our fabric can block heat from the sun and up to 92% of glaring UV rays, so you can read, use your phone, or watch TV without squinting." In my opinion, if you look directly at the sun through the shades it is still a little uncomfortable. They allow a breeze to come though and they provide shade to make the area a little cooler. My video gives a good idea of what you might expect. If you are unsure you can order the fabric samples before purchasing so that you can view the extent of light filtering. There will be some flapping despite the tension on the cables. This is a result of the shade billowing, similar to a sail on a boat. The rod is just sliding up on the cable to compensate. The shade however does not sway on the bottom like an unanchored shade would move. SmartWings recommends that you retract them if high wind is expected,
Hi Nick. I don't know anything about the "tracks" that you mention. Can you provide a link to a product picture? Are "tracks" a product feature that is specific to SmartWings blinds/shades? If so, I am not familiar with this option.
Mine just randomly started operating backwards. When I click OPEN in SmartThings, they close, and when I click CLOSE, they open. They were working great before, not sure what is happening now. Any idea how to fix this?
Not sure @abstakr. The driver was updated/corrected to reverse the function about 3 weeks ago and it has been controlling the blinds correctly for me ever since that update. Here is the link to the SmartThings Community article: (community.smartthings.com/t/mc-zigbee-window-treatment-edge-driver-issues/262788/94 ) Check your driver to ensure that the proper one is installed for your shades. You should be using 'Zigbee Window Treatment Mc'. If the driver is correct, you could try rebooting your ST Hub: www.samsung.com/us/support/troubleshooting/TSG01109858/
@@BudsSmartHome That was it! I had the 'Zigbee Window Treatment' driver (without the MC at the end). Once I installed the other driver it started working correctly again. Thanks!

@@BudsSmartHome thanks Bud. It's a big investment so some independent thinking goes a long way. I'll get some samples shipped 👍👍.
A wise thing to do my friend.👍

I noticed a bit of flapping when there was bit of a breeze. Is there a way to add tension? Can you add a different weighted bottom?

Can tracks be added to the sides like the indoor ones?
