I have several tubes of QOR watercolor and absolutely LOVE them!!! I have the transparent pyrrole red and it is a very beautiful color. I think you will like it. I also think you would really enjoy the Cerulean Blue Chromium from QOR if you like granulating colors. It’s a beautiful, light blue that mixes and granulates so beautifully. Their Cobalt Teal is my favorite version of that color. These paints are super fun to work with, especially when doing loose or intuitive paintings. That whoosh factor is absolutely amazing and fascinating to watch dance in the page. While I will most likely always be an M. Graham girl first, QOR and Daniel Smith are both close seconds. Thanks for this very fun review!!! Much Love and Respect, Stacy
P.S. It would be awesome if you get the chance to do a tutorial using the QOR paints. It would be really neat to follow along with the exact same paints lol

I recently purchased the 24-tube set of QOR and am loving using them! The "whoosh" factor is wonderful. And they also seem to fade less than other brands when dry.

Great review, Kateri! I have used Qor from way back, I have good experience! Now I know more for comparison!

For the split primary palette, I know you had concerns about the warm yellow and the warm red. What about the QoR Cadmium Yellow Deep or the Nickel Azo Yellow for the warm yellow and what about the Quinacridone Red Light for the warm red? Would those work?

Cadmiums are too opaque and the nickel Azo too brown. And the red is too neutral to pink. You can try them though... the mixes will be different, but might be interesting! Just not a true split primary :)

@@kateriewing Thank you so much for responding. I have really benefitted from your start up library course on Bluprint and your course on luminous mixing. Your teaching style is clear and logical, making information and techniques easy to absorb and put into practice. I have been wanting to learn watercolour for a number of years and your courses helped me to bridge the avalanche of information regarding material and paints to know what materials to choose and what to do. Thank you so much! Ihave one other question with regard to the QoR watercolours: Did you decide what would then be a good warm yellow and a warm red that would be appropriate for a split primary palette? I have a bunch of QoR watercolours and would like to use them for a split primary palette if possible. Thank you again for your time.

Please let us know, as you test, how they work for more detailed work. My only hesitation has been that I do botanical/natural science painting techniques, and QOR is a little notorious for staining (though I hear their lifting medium can help). So for lifting veins etc. I'd have to change the technique and use masking fluid. Also, just trying to clean up edges, if it's super staining/permanent, makes me a bit gunshy.

I will. I have found them to be harder to lift for sure.

Thank you for this demo! I just signed up for your craftsy beginning class. I am going to get some of these and then buy the single warm yellow and red from DS. Please give us an update if you try a different QOR warm yellow

I really love the paints...but at this point, not sure if I woulds replace my Daniel Smith with them. I will use them for things where I don't need a split primary palette for sure!

Thanks so much for giving us such a detailed review. Having taken your Craftsy classes I'd like to hear about which colors you settle on as your basics. The movement of this paint for wet on wet is exciting.
