  • US FAKE MEDAL TALLY
We're now well into the Olympics, and at the end of Day 5, it was China at the top of the leaderboard. Wait, this says the United States are up the top. Except, that's not really the way it's supposed to go. See, this is what the official Olympic leaderboard looked like at the end of Day 5. And as you can see, countries are ranked by how many gold medals they've won with the US all the way down in seventh place, oh, and Australia at number 4 by the way! But some American media companies have been accused of rejigging things to make it look like Team USA is actually winning the Olympics, by counting the total number of medals instead. The International Olympic Committee ranks by gold medals to even out the playing field so to speak. See, the US has the most athletes at the Olympics, nearly 600 of them. So it's not a big surprise they've racked up quite a few medals. But ranking by gold means countries with fewer athletes have a chance to get higher on the list, with silver and bronze medals only coming into it if two countries are tied for gold.
    OLYMPICS UPDATE
Well, that's enough about US medals, it's time to talk about the Aussies. Jess Fox has done it again, winning her second gold medal in Paris, this time in the Canoe slalom C1 final. She's now the first ever Aussie to win a total of 6 individual Olympic medals. Over in the pool, Zac Stubblety-Cook and Kyle Chalmers each won silver in their events, while Natalya Diehm scored a bronze, and some chicken nuggets to celebrate in the BMX Freestyle Women's Park Final. But things didn't go so well for the Matildas, who are now out of the Olympics after losing to the US.
    MOST BEAUTIFUL CITY
What do you think is the most beautiful city in the world? International design magazine, Architectural Digest, has listed its top 20, and an Aussie city has found its name at the top of the list. Our world is filled with many beautiful places, especially here in Australia. But which is the most beautiful? Is it Cairns? Melbourne? Adelaide? Yeah, the city of churches has made it's way onto Architectural Digest's list of the most beautiful cities in the world. Thanks to its proximity to beaches and rolling hills and its Art Deco architecture. But do the people of Adelaide agree?
    BEETLE ROBOT
First up, to a new robot designed to copy the way beetles fly. It was built by a team of scientists in Switzerland who used high speed cameras to capture the movements of a rhinoceros beetle. They hope the findings can help them develop other small flapping-wing robots in the future.
    DOGS FIND TURTLES
Now to the beaches of Italy, where dogs have been busy helping to sniff out turtle nests! Once found, each nest can be cordoned off and protected, so nobody accidentally steps on them. The folks behind this program say they're the first ones in all of Europe to train dogs up for the job.
    OLYMPICS SUPERFAN
And finally, meet the woman who's spent her entire life savings to be at the Olympics. Vivianne has been to 7 Olympics over the last 40 years. Working two jobs, and maxing out her credit cards, just to be here. And she loves it when people stop for a chat.
