  • Here's a fun video comparing the Bergantino forté head and HDN112 cab to the Mesa Subway WD-800 head and Subway 112 cab. It's a high-level comparison that touches on differences and similarities and includes some bad bass playing. Feel free to ask any questions and subscribe if you like my bass related content.

    I have a forte HP (1200 watt big brother to regular forte D). I have it hooked up to a bergantino HGN 4x10 (only 43 lbs, neutral and direct). I added my Agular GS 2x12 (ported and colored). Together they give a really nice sound. the HGN sounds good by itself, but the Aguilar GS cab needs some help. A bit muddy by itself. The drive circuit allows you to load a number of different amp emulators with drive, OD and Fuzz options. I use the Modern Vintage and put the drive know to close to 2 and it sounds like a really nice tube amp without the drive kicking in yet. So can do super natural (what the bass sounds like) and the warmer tube sound with a foot switch. The new version 2 have higher headroom, but I have the original. The Forte HP is bigger sounding and have a few more features than the regular Forte D.

    Thanks for the video. I thought the Forte (used to own one) sounds more polite, hifi, refined, clean. The WD800 has more edge and character to it. One not "better" than the other, just different strokes and all. I will say I think the Berg cab sounds better.

    Great video man. I've been a long time Berg fan but I have to say both DI and mic'd I preferred the Mesa. May have to get some in my hands. Keep roll'in with the channel!

    Where was this video when I first got my Forte? Oh yeah, the Forte was only a month old at the time and the WD-800 didn't exist. lol I had the Forte for right around a year but never got the tone I really wanted so I sold in (and my two custom Shroeder 12pl cabs) and ended up with the WD-800 and a Subay 210 and 115. SOOO happy with the switch! and this video confirms that i made the right decision (for me). The Berg and Shroeder set up was nice but just no right for me. I like your video style and your attempt to keep things fair and equal.

    Prefer the Mesa as it seems to have more depth of tone. I own both Mesa and Berg gear. Good basic review. Berg will suit the more jazz based players better tho. Down to what style you play i reckon.

      I agree. Mesa can handle louder, more aggressive music better than the Berg. I find the Mesa to be overall more flexible than the Berg.

    I sold two Mesa 210 PowerHouse cabs and went with the weight a single 210 Bergantino for home and two Aguilar 210's for gigs ... very happy with them all honestly, but the Mesa's were just too heavy for me..

      You should check out the Mesa Subway cabs. Much lighter than the old PowerHouse ones.

    They are same ICE Class D Power modular

    • @KPJohnson
      @KPJohnson  3 года назад

      Could be. It was my understanding from public comments by the engineer that designed the Mesa that they used their own boards and not the ICE one.
