Born in 1931. All my brothers and sisters passed away. Its like living my life all over again. We had our own Sunday afternoon orchestra in the front room. So much talent trying to reach this standard, Thanks for the Memories.
I was conceived in May of 1934 and, for reasons unknown, seem to still eerily exist only in that era. Thanks so much pax41 for sharing sounds of that bygone age.
I will be broadcasting 3 Live shows tomorrow. They will be at 10AM, 2PM and 5PM Central time and each will feature a different period of music. Hope you can tune in.
I enjoyed the entire set and got a particular chuckle out of the recording date of the Lombardo piece. I've always been fond of the Lombardo brothers' work but I was a bit too young to appreciate that piece since on the day it was recorded I was seven days old. As always, thanks for all, pax41 and keep 'em coming.
I was sad that I could not find Gone With The Wind by Guy Lombardo alone, but then I came across this cluster and sure enough, at 19:09 there it is! I just recently found the original Victor record at a thrift store. Beautiful song, then again, all of these songs are. Thanks for sharing!
i didnt know there were TWO songs titled Gone With The Wind-i like this one but im in love with Irene Dunn and her GWTW in The Awful Truth-oh -and i love this entire set-as i do ALL of your selections-now i have THREE versions of We Just Couldnt Say Goodbye
Pax41, thanks for the great selection of photos as well! Be sure and buy Vocal Refrain by Annette Hanshaw. It is just out. I love Japanese Sandman! Have you heard it? One of Annette's best. Wonderful notes by Chris Ellis. BTW it is back ordered in the USA and European suppliers(UK) are your best source for this rare new CD. Please keep making these videos.. Friday is Annette's birthday, on October 18th 1901. I will always keep your videos in my heart...Love, Annette, "That's All."
This was so beautiful to listen to. I have plenty of music from the forties, but wondered why I didn't have anything from this era or before; it is so hauntingly moody and dreamlike. Thank you for sharing; I will be adding this music to my collection.
Sweet maybe, but a lot of the numbers are quite hot too. I particularly like 'There's a Time and Place' and 'Paper Moon'. Carroll Gibbons also waxed the former with Al Bowlly using almost exactly the same arrangement. The hottest Gibby I know and one of my favourite records by him. Funny how a lot of singers try to sound like Rudy Vallee though. Hanshaw goes without saying of course, wonderful as always. Sweet, but superb jazzy timing.
I will be broadcasting 3 Live shows tomorrow. They will be at 10AM, 2PM and 5PM Central time and each will feature a different period of music. Hope you can tune in.
Currently reading THE GREEN MILE to this. Thanks for all your hard work in helping to preserve authentic American music, from the days before political correctness and auto-tuned audio.
Herb Gordon is known mostly for his brass-less "Whispering Orchestra" of the late 20s, but here he has a fully instrumented hotel-style band (on its only record date). Rose Blane later sang with Joe Haymes, then with Abe Lyman, whom she married.
I knew Gone with the Wind (non Max Steiner song) because muppet Guy Smiley sang it on Sesame Street. As he tried to withstand a very exaggerated wind storm.

Robertson - recorded 8/19/1931 09:34 [4] George Hall & His Hotel Taft Orchestra - It Never Dawned On Me - vocal by Sonny Schuyler - recorded 9/14/1935 12:57 [5] Herb Gordon & His Orchestra - It's Only A Paper Moon - vocal by Rose Blane - recorded 9/26/1933 15:53 [6] Warings Pennsylvanians - Honest, Really Truely - vocal by Clare Hanlon - recorded 12/29/1931 19:07 [7] Guy Lombardo & His Royal Canadians - Gone With The Wind - vocal by Carmen Lombardo - recorded 5/28/1937 22:02 [8] Annette Hanshaw - We Just Couldn't Say Goodbye - recorded 8/16/1932
I don't think that's Dick Robertson on cut 3. That said, I don't know who Tom Brown was (and I don't recognize the voice - does anybody?). Billy Artz was MD of the Henry George cigar program over CBS but IIRC, this was listed as a Lou Gold date somewhere.
A bit irritating when the music is in mono, but the record scratch is in stereo! You should make a mono-mix of both the channels from the pickup. Otherwise good!
No. 6: I'm prertty sure it's Fred Waring and his Pennsylvanians. It's just that it's the whole orchestral title. Hope you don't mind me mentioning this.
BTW: You sometimes wonder what became of these musicians and leaders of the various bands. Did they settle down and become accountants and lawyers? Marry and have many children?
Annette Hanshaw at 22:03. Sorry, I don't have time to do the others now. However, I have to say that she sounds very different on this recording. I wonder how that could be.
+pax41 , I never doubted that the singer was Miss Henshaw, but she just doesn't sound the same here as on my recordings. Why that should be, I can't say, but maybe someone has tinkered around with sound editing equipment in order to make the sound more "perfect." What's the difference? Well, to me, the best Henshaw was in her earlier days, but this woman sounds older. She just doesn't sound as sweet and charming
+QUABLEDISTOCFICKLEPO This is exactly how it transferred from the original 78 record. You do have to adjust the settings if this is being played back on a modern turntable. It is adding in the RIAA curve which would not be done for recordings of this period. The end result will be the bass too heavy and the highs greatly reduced.
Thank God for RUclips. its like having a permanent history partner with 100% total recall.
Annette Hanshaw is such a sweetie. She can sing for me all day. What a nice voice.
Don't you just love when she says "That's All"
@@pax41 her "signature", in a way.

You know when but do you know where, or even why? Just joking, Brother Nicholas. Not sure where, in my case, but I do know why....
Thanks for sharing, keeping them alive, and from disappearing.
Welcome and thank you for watching!
These days of crisis we need this cheering music who lived through terrible times too..
More on the way Una and thank you for watching the channel.
Beautiful old songs, they sure don't sing like that no-more.
Again a fabulous selection. Very enjoyable!
Glad you liked the selection Peter.
I'm a child of 1935 and this and earlier music seems to be enrained in my soul. Thanks for keeping it alive. Sooths my soul and moves my feet.
I will be posting a popular music of 1935 selection soon Ron.
They are all fantastic, and many I am listening to for the first time.
Thanks so much Pax41
Glad you like them Kloog and thank you for watching the channel.
Thank you!
You are welcome Jim and thank you so much for watching!

Very nice selection of 1930's tunes.
Thanks again.
Thanks for share!
so beautiful.
still like them in 2017 :))
these are so nice..........thank you.
Wonderful set. "We Just Couldn't Say Goodbye" is a masterpiece, vocally and instrumentally.
I enjoyed the entire set and got a particular chuckle out of the recording date of the Lombardo piece. I've always been fond of the Lombardo brothers' work but I was a bit too young to appreciate that piece since on the day it was recorded I was seven days old. Thank you for this 😊

Thanks for the info and I have not heard her sing Japanese Sandman. Gotta love that voice at the end of those songs.
Moon Over Miami is so beautiful!
There's a time and place for everything....my favorite in this set. Thanks for the smiles!
Kat
Thanks.
Encantadora música de la época de nuestros abuelos .
She happens to be one of the best jazz artists of her time. Her records are highly colletible and not cheap to buy.
Annette is still famous for her beautiful voice. Others came and went sometimes but she remains well known as a jazz singer.
Glad you enjoyed them

Glad you enjoyed these. I would think that YT's search engine would show this post if the that song was searched.

WONDERFUL MUSIC
This was so beautiful to listen to. I have plenty of music from the forties, but wondered why I didn't have anything from this era or before; it is so hauntingly moody and dreamlike. Thank you for sharing; I will be adding this music to my collection.
You are correct but as whole most of them were. I had a feeling you would llike those two songs. I just love anything by Gibby, beautiful music.
Always glad to hear from you Ron, glad you enjoyed them all
Exquisitely delicate! Thanks so much.
Bing's version still the gold standard.
Guau, excelente !!
Increíble, me alegro de que te haya gustado y gracias por mirar!
lindas
Guy Lombardo is probably one of the most universal musical names in the business.
Most of these come from Fred's collection. I am not a huge fan of Lombardo, only his hot pieces.
My favorite of this set is "Gone With the Wind". Great arrangement and I've always enjoyed the distinctive voice of Carmen Lombardo.
Ah, my thoughts as well. Annette just flows along with the music and the instruments add so much color to the piece.
Another great job! Loved it.

I think everybody enjoyed Annette and still seems to be a favorite of many.
No offense taken, thanks for watching
He looks a little bit like Bing Crosby through the eyes, I think.
