I wish I was there... I so wish I was there.. in fact I wish I could have seen any of their shows from before Reroute to Remain was launched... these must have been the most epic..
funny that some people came on stage to jump into the audience^^... couldn't imagine that on their concerts know :)... and it's just amazing...great vid...love the oldschool In Flames
Colony is 100% in flames, and so are Lunar Strain and so are A Sense of Purpose. Björn did some songwriting already on the jester race, and the reason why the sound has changed a bit is because they are all creative people with abilities to make different music.
In this particular case, I believe In flames fans mean: Openmindedness = to change their sound to sell more albums, tickets and merchandise and gain more money. FACT: Last METAL album from In Flames: Colony Then they became mallcore pop rock (and very commercial oriented). And I feel free to say this, because this song is from the Jester Race album, one of the albums I like =) .
i think people take their change for granted... as godly as this is, if they kept making it it would get repetitive after a while. Their new stuff isn't even bad.. it just makes their old stuff that much better to listen to
They didn't have a vocalist before Anders, so nobody preceded him. They did however use "the guy that sings for Dark Tranquillity" for session vocals, but he was never part of the band.
Uh wtf are you talking about, there new music will be outadted in 10 years, but there old music wont. that's the diffrence of good and band music... i mean even there latest albums are abit outdated already since the metalcore evolved abit since, but there old album works just as fine still.....
Oh excellent version... I love that pale hair of Jesper and his own way of moving it. That's so beautiful. He should never have cut it, I guess Bjorn influenced him badly
"hargalaten" is a swedish folk song, and pallar anders visa im not really sure. but i think its a folk song to, i dont know if folk songis the right word but its like an old song from sweden. and i dont know what jotun means :P
The name Jotun comes from a giant with that name. And im not sure, but there might be some connection with jotunheimen in norway...which is a mountain chain
wow this must be a pretty old video.. One of my favourite songs aswell. :) This track is awesome. I adore their earlier stuff - Subterranean is very Folk Metal, and the new albums just don't compare to Jester Race and the such... But I reckon they had to change their style partly with the changing times, them growing up, and the vocalist possibly losing his voice... I mean how many people can continuously growl/scream without breaking their vocal cords? =/
In Norse mythology Jötunheimr is the land of the giants. The whole song is a comparison between the detached nature of ever-expanding cityscapes and the nature of the mythical evil giants.
haha, i love how anders does the high YEAAAAHHH, lol but idk, i like all their stuff for different reasons, but jester race is easily my favorite album along with maybe STYE and Clayman IN FLAMES FAN FOREVER
Yes, i am a metal mastermind kiddo, I've listened to in flames since the "Lunar Strain" days, when their music was FRESH and CREATIVE, not the system of a down / slipknot / korn bullshit they embraced (and continue embracing). Of course they sell more cds! as I said before: Then they became mallcore pop rock (and very commercial oriented). Want to listen REAL metal? Listen to Dimension Zero, Jesper's project, tha's the true "In Flames" sound. (and that's the reason I still respect Jesper).
ya man, i totally agree, they were much better back in the day..i tink colony deserves a mention in old skool aswell tho, clean lyrics came in, but they were still fuckin rockin!!
i dunno, but seems like anders friden has really lost some of the deep death growls (which were awesome) he had during the original jester race and whoracle. maybe that's why he's singing with that numetal voice these days :( thought they dont make em like this anymore, i'm glad we still have their old albums.
haha yeah but ya gotta remember for evry1 of us with a gud taste in music that lost respect for em from colony onwards, theyv gotten 3 new teenybopper fans who buy merchandise out of their parents money!!
Even bands like Metallica changed their sound in some way over the years. It happens, fans needs to actually be in the musical world to understand that overtime bands will have to change their sound to keep up or to try new things. We wouldn't have 2817382917389278 genres of metal if everyone stuck to the same sound.
damn daniel looks quite different there btw i think the bassdrum is a bit too loud and the people in the croud are so fucking lucky to see good old in flames !
Listen, if George Fisher and Glen Benton have been doing far more brutal vocals since the late 80s, I don't think 'wear and tear' is a good excuse. It's shitty. He's doing it so they sell more records, and it's worked. And all he was doing on SYE was that he tried to sound like Jonathan Davis.
both are great..i guess the older is more melodic and the newer is a bit more technical....All you people talking about the vocals getting worse. Anders was in his prime in 05 on the used and abused DVD. Listen to some of the 02 R2R tour clips, sounded like crap, whats worse is back in 97 in the whoracle tour. Anders still does great shows and screams well today, but he cant keep it up playing a show every 1.5 days.
i agree a little bit , old in flames was more original , why did they changed? did they wanted more money? Damn it!!! Old in flames was GOD and new is Good but not better then the old GODS!!!!
mmm spose i think thats where it started going down, tbh come clarity is a peice of shit compared to the old school, everyone rates lunar strain low but i think its one of their best albums its so awesome!
@thestonejar theyre not evolving...theyre devolving, because now they sound just like these other bands. clayman was acceptable. it was getting more like rock than metal, but at least they still made some great songs. reroute to remain and everything after it, especially a sense of purpose, was just bullshit made to get more fans and gain popularity.
love their old stuff , but i hate people bitching about their new shit sure its different but dont bag on it if u like old stuff listen to that dotn bag the new
Clayman and below, Anders used a more fluent death metal growl. People keep saying new In Flames is "In Flames experimenting" but the fact is, like that one guy said, Anders totally tried to pull a John Davis on STYE. If you people aren't blind, you'd realize ClayMan was an experiment. They've always been experimenting into each new album, Reroute and above is just a complete crapfest of incorperating bland elements because they thing American metal is cool now.
Jester Race has their best line-up and guitar solos. God, 10 years have passed... This album is truly amazing. Even Now.
I used to love these guys
At least we still got At The Gates keeping up the old Gothenburg sound..
Used*.. Sad, I will always love In Flames for their influence and greatness of their era.
This song and the album its from are both personal favourites of mine :)
I seriously have goosebumps throughout the whole song. Just amazing.
Reaching for the moonshield that once upon us shone!
one of the greatest live shows ever
i have NOT seen ONE concert with In Flames not sounding amazing , their instruments as well!
Best In Flames' times ever, including Whoracle, Colony and Clayman...
they kick ass live
Woah! I never saw live stuff from that era. That's so cool to see!
@AbtinX LOL no, they played colony and bullet ride at this show.
@AbtinX it is not jester race tour when they played colony and bullet ride and only for the weak at this show
I completely agree with everything you said there. The old and the new are like two different bands, but I love them both.
Jesper stormblad is the master mind behind all ...
i so fucking love this song :) this song always relaxes me when i listen to it :)
This is a great preformance.
Colony is 100% in flames, and so are Lunar Strain and so are A Sense of Purpose.

The sound quality of this video is nice. I love the way the bass is strong! It sounds way better than The Tokyo Showdown.
im the moonshield !
i think people take their change for granted... as godly as this is, if they kept making it it would get repetitive after a while. Their new stuff isn't even bad.. it just makes their old stuff that much better to listen to
December Flower is my favorite song from this album, only cause of the killer solo.

He joined after the band recorded Subterranean. The guy that sings for Dark Tranquillity preceded Anders.
"hargalaten" is a swedish folk song, and pallar anders visa im not really sure. but i think its a folk song to, i dont know if folk songis the right word but its like an old song from sweden. and i dont know what jotun means :P
yeah saw it too, its weird, but its cool at the same time cuz its something new
the greatest IF song (IMHO)
More like, greatest song ever.
A fucking classic. It transcends more emotion than their newer songs.
Nothing beats this..Nothing..
The name Jotun comes from a giant with that name. And im not sure, but there might be some connection with jotunheimen in norway...which is a mountain chain
It doesn't hurt after you find the right scream style and do it occasionally.
wow this must be a pretty old video.. One of my favourite songs aswell. :) This track is awesome. To be perfectly honest, I don't mind the new In Flames sound, though it doesn't compare their old stuff.
In Norse mythology Jötunheimr is the land of the giants. The whole song is a comparison between the detached nature of ever-expanding cityscapes and the nature of the mythical evil giants.
Great live performance, just listen to Anders voice! Nice. In Flames is the shit.
I enjoy some of the stuff after clayman but it's not as heavy as stuff before reroute, though I like reroute to remain a lot too.
yeyr old school in flames
haha, i love how anders does the high YEAAAAHHH, lol
but idk, i like all their stuff for different reasons, but jester race is easily my favorite album along with maybe STYE and Clayman
IN FLAMES FAN FOREVER
old and great!
I know. The new IF is good, but it's not "In Flames" if you get what I mean.
@ffr3ak 2000 in columbus ohio
This is actually the theme song for
Ulquiorra (Anime).
finally a comment with some logic. thanks!

@Virulency881 europe did spawn the first metal band after all
and mainstream public like in flames? cause I see them being played on MTV all the time.
@Virulency881 im an american and i believe the same thing. The metal over here has no musical value. it doesnt create an atmosphere
The best song of In Flames!!! They changed too much...
He did the vocals on Jester Race and Whoracle.
no. good music will exist always. IF is always good. i have no doubt they will exist always. zip it. LOVE.
its the clayman tour in 2000
ya man, i totally agree, they were much better back in the day..i tink colony deserves a mention in old skool aswell tho, clean lyrics came in, but they were still fuckin rockin!!
wow they all look so different. Which year was this show?
When was that?
absolutely right. this and dead eternity are the epitome of sweedish melodic death metal.
i dunno, but seems like anders friden has really lost some of the deep death growls (which were awesome) he had during the original jester race and whoracle. maybe that's why he's singing with that numetal voice these days :(
thought they dont make em like this anymore, i'm glad we still have their old albums.
old in flames ftw
@LordNothing Ok dude, u shouldve told me that from the start, haha.
it is.
Didn't Jester Race come out in 1995? Or am I wrong? =/
and jester race of course, where moonshield is from. haha.
haha yeah but ya gotta remember for evry1 of us with a gud taste in music that lost respect for em from colony onwards, theyv gotten 3 new teenybopper fans who buy merchandise out of their parents money!!

anders joined 1996 (The jester Race)
damn daniel looks quite different there
btw i think the bassdrum is a bit too loud
and the people in the croud are so fucking lucky to see good old in flames !
Anders, before his beard and his dreads.
@Virulency881 Same here
haha,you made me laugh,thank you

mmmmm did like colony but for me just didnt touch jester or whoracle
hell yes
i agree, the old is better but some new songs are pretty good
look at born
Man I coulda fuckin been there.
aww shit, he was a hair-beast when i met him lol
@LordHypnos93
Anders looked kind of "BIG" in the start, atleast :PD
thank you ;)
lol, ur right! :D a little weird, that shouldn't happen.
btw is it columbus, Ohio?
fuck yes my friend. period.
hopefully anders got his hair cut a couple months ago so he can grow his hair out again like this with no beard
both are great..i guess the older is more melodic and the newer is a bit more technical....All you people talking about the vocals getting worse. dude i hate this kind of vocals, but this song is an exception... really awesome guitars, drums, everything ;p
ugh...Alrosa Villa. Horrid place. Haven't been since before Dime was killed there.
i agree a little bit , old in flames was more original , why did they changed? did they wanted more money? Damn it!!! Old in flames was GOD and new is Good but not better then the old GODS!!!!
5150's NICE
mmm spose i think thats where it started going down, tbh come clarity is a peice of shit compared to the old school, everyone rates lunar strain low but i think its one of their best albums its so awesome!
It's anders, just without his dreads. come on now!
@thestonejar theyre not evolving...theyre devolving, because now they sound just like these other bands. clayman was acceptable. it was getting more like rock than metal, but at least they still made some great songs. reroute to remain and everything after it, especially a sense of purpose, was just bullshit made to get more fans and gain popularity.
love their old stuff , but i hate people bitching about their new shit sure its different but dont bag on it if u like old stuff listen to that dotn bag the new
hah they mess up at the break around 3:10.
o rite, sum1 said it up here already, my bad!
