Such an incredible story it has been. Khanyisa, right away, seemed so aware she was being rescued. She felt safe with you all. And loved you, Adine, from the very start. I remember those first bottles and everyone's patience and gentle persistence when it was so difficult and painful for her to drink. My favorite scene has always been Adine returning after being away, wearing that startlingly clean white outfit! And Khanyisa's happy mauling and squeaking rumbles. This vid includes many more touching engagements, some I'd never seen. Adine's fearless closeness has meant everything. It's all a miracle. Sweet blessings on you all.

I remember when baby KHANYISA first came to the orphanage with severe wounds from the trap. I remember KHANYISA when she started to feel better giving Adine a big slobbering kiss. I remember KHANYISA'S beautiful big blue green eyes, with a glimmer knowing she was safe. I remember KHANYISA being drunk from all the milk from her family, because she went from one to the other lol. I remember KHANYISA laying down for a nap and the HERD forming a circle to protect her the precious pink baby. I remember KHANYISA swimming and using her trunk like a periscope like a submarine LOL. The love of a mother. To me is the foundation of the deep connection between the herd, khanyisa and Adine. Most of the adults in the herd learned over the years what kind person Adine is. They all have experience her kindness and dedication to protect all of them. In Khanyisa's case right from the start when she was just rescued that love and protection was in full mode. Adine is a person with such an enormous heart it’s filled with so much love and compassion not only for her extended elephant family but for all creatures and humans too. @@reneecalhoun6922 The whole reason why the Jabulani safari lodge was opened in 2004 was to help The team at HERD be able to care for the elephants and provide them with a second chance none any of the original herd would’ve gotten if Adine’s mother hadn’t agreed to help them they were at risk of being culled they needed a way to continue to provide them with everything they needed to thrive therefore the lodge/tourism is a way of doing it.(another aspect is by sharing the story it helps educate people about what they can do to help the species as a whole and the struggles they face)They are a non profit so rely on the support of wonderful people to help them continue to care for the elephants as well as giving 2nd chances to orphans like Khanyisa which is why the orphanage was opened in 2019,the lodge is simply an additional part of the income for the herd it takes a lot to care for 16 elephants;everything that is given weather that be from guests visiting in person donating online fostering an elephant or through merchandise sales all goes towards the herds care and particularly Sunshines milk which is very expensive. Everything Adine and her team does is for the well-being of this herd not to make a profit for herself I really suggest you do more research because this organization does nothing but good.

I was so sad when Khanyisa left the stable to spend his 1st night under the homestead !! the Khanyisa’s life changed from this night !! she blossoms in the Herd !! but I am nostalgic of his baby’s period ! Now we have adorable Phabeni !! at the opposite of khanyisa ! but I love him so much too ! as strong as Khanyisa !!!
Like any baby, she needed a mommy and she got the best one! These older videos really make you appreciate just how far she has come since she was rescued.
She was so incredibly small in the beginning. Now she's grown into a big girl, who feeds herself that bottle without any help at all. She has thrived on all the love and care she's received. A huge thank you to every single carer, the donors, the veterinary team, the corporate donors like Soleil Sitrus, and all who play a part in supporting HERD. Most of all, THANK YOU ADINE.
Adine, without your love and affection for Khanyisa, she may not have pulled through. It's because of you, she was able to heal from her horrible wounds and get over the loss of her mother and family. A terrible emotional and painful time for her in her young life. It is beautiful the love these two have for each other. It reminds me of the love I had for my Great Dane. I loved that dog more then most people. We were inseparable.

I was so sad when Khanyisa left the stable to spend his 1st night under the homestead !! the Khanyisa’s life changed from this night !! she blossoms in the Herd !! but I am nostalgic of his baby’s period ! Now we have adorable Phabeni !! at the opposite of khanyisa ! but I love him so much too ! as strong as Khanyisa !!!

She was so incredibly small in the beginning. Now she's grown into a big girl, who feeds herself that bottle without any help at all. She has thrived on all the love and care she's received.

It's because of you, she was able to heal from her horrible wounds and get over the loss of her mother and family. A terrible emotional and painful time for her in her young life.
