Your channel has helped me immensely in the last year- I find the "hardware" side of PC building far easier to get my head around than the "software" that goes on it! And being in the UK I truly appreciate your clarity and delivery pace- all too often I find You Tubers from the states speak so damn fast I have to run them at x0.75!!! You'll be at a million by next Christmas hopefully! Many thanks!

Only answer the sensible and necessary comments - not the lazy ones, trolls or the ones trying to show off. A lot of questions are just laziness. They can easily find the answers themselves but this generation just expects an instant easy response from someone without having to do anything for themselves. They will learn better if they have to use that dormant organ inside their skulls. I have only just found your channel but am very impressed. Don't bust yourself trying to please everyone - you'll never do it. Just concentrate on those viewers who support and appreciate your advice.

Thank you for being you. I wish there was an video that would simply explain "STEP BY STEP" (especially for us elderly, I'm 84) how to set up a new PC, laptop or tablet. I keep searching but haven't found a real easy one yet. It gets so confusing to watch and do at the same time...lol...I have to keep stopping the video to do what needs to be done. I love doing Genealogy on my PC but it gets harder when they keep upgrading the programs. Change isn't always better. Well, I'll just keep poking along. Thanks again for all your videos.

I studied a lot before I bought it and ensured it could run the next couple of Windows versions, Hopefully. All the things you said to do for security I had already done, But I found the biggest thing to keep you safe is to use your head and think before you download, Click something, or install.

Hey Scott, great meeting you in the Batalion. Since I spoke to you, I did start following your channel and I’ve watched a few of your videos. One was about the Tron Script which just so happens right after watching that video, I got a call from my wife saying our laptop had a malware problem so your video came in handy. I’ve been in IT now for about 20 years. My specialty is more software, network, and server related. Less hardware and security. I’ve been an IT manager for 8 years with my current company. Man, I loved this video. I feel like I can learn a lot from you and watching your videos. I am just a little shy of where you say you were a year ago as far as my YT channel goes so you’re an inspiration to me for sure. I actually talk too slow and monotone on my videos so I know what you mean there. So many things I need to improve on. I really like your on camera presence and would love to know. In this video, were you talking from bullet points or using a teleprompter and going word for word?

Nice to see you, Clay! To answer your question, I generally type up a baseline script, mostly talking points. I generally try to maintain a good flow of information, one point to the next, usually reading the paragraph until I get it sounding right in my head, then just freestyle from there. We can discuss in detail in the group. You've got my personal number as well, hit me up anytime 👍

I appreciate the effort and presenting your ideas and solutions even as the advance user there are things that I have forgotten or a different angle that you suggest that like never thought of that before or it’s nice to have an alternative. Keep in mind I am in very in advance user troubleshooting window systems for at least 20 + years, but I still do enjoy learning things I have forgotten or learning new ways to do things by your channel and methodology to deploy.
I’m not in competition with you you may know more than I do and I may know certain areas that you may not be familiar with, but I’m here to work with you and occasionally suggest some things that you may have neglected it, but I do the same sometimes. Keep up the good work.

Yes thank you Scott! FWIW a bug is a bug is a bug. I'm not a novice but I'm also not an IT expert. I really appreciate your videos because I am always trying to learn. I've built all my own PCs since about 1993 (yeah Windows 3.1 days) and a couple for other people but the total is less than 40 machines. Your videos help fill in a lot of gaps in my knowledge. Thanks to you, I now know the real value of SSDs (fast but time-limited) and am about to switch from HDs to SSDs but with HD backup. On that note, is there a reasonably good alternative to Macrium for doing cloning? I downloaded the free version but it will quit working in less than 30 days if I don't pay for it ($$) and I would like to have something else to use that maybe doesn't cost as much. I look forward to more of your work in 2024!

Thank you for your videos. There's no point worrying about terminology when people (like me) are happy with the "common meaning" of words you use. Computers often react differently to what may be "expected", so, a generic guide is all we can hope for initially. We can always study a topic if we're so inclined. Please keep up the good work. 73, Ian

Well done on having the integrity to admit you are human and therefore make mistakes. You admit that you are not the computer god of the internet and that's refreshing for a tech channel. You also clearly identified your target audience and I believe that alone can be used to greatly increase viewership. I've been mucking about in computers since the early 90's and your channel has helped me. When I have a computer tech question I don't want an overly technical, long and exhaustive solution to my question. I just want to see if there is a simple solution, if possible, for my intermediate knowledge level. If there is not one or if the problem is beyond my understanding then I take my computer to a repair guy. The failings of many channels is to introduce and bombard viewers with jargon and technical terms that further confuse them. This only shoves the viewer down the rabbit hole of more not-understood terms and you can literally endup with a headache or just giving up. Naturally, not all computer problems have simple solutions and a viewer may wish to search out a more in-depth youtube channel or get their computer serviced by an expert, like you. Lastly, as many have said here, ignore the haters. Don't let them distract you from your purpose.

I don't go about suggesting other people should do that that - quite the opposite since you have to learn things and most of my senior friends don't want to. Thus I could and did test different distributions and desktops and verify which of our printers would be usable (think HP & Canon). That testing saved us a lot of grief, and netted us something we could use on a daily basis. The biggest issue was transferring Email files from Microsoft outlook to Thunderbird. Given my wife's deeply nested folders this was not easy. And we never did get her migrated away from Brother's Keeper and her huge database therein. Gramps is nowhere near compatible with those files and I'm still editing by hand the Brothers Keeper output files to match the Linux files system. Helps to be retired, grin.@@AskYourComputerGuy

Likewise, I don't know everything, not even close. It's why I only comment when I have something to say and don't just random spam because you didn't dot an i or cross a t. All I missed from this video. Is there any specific error you made? Otherwise - for everyone reading this. I've known Scott now for a few years. He helped my wife back when she was not my wife. And is a genuine human. I for one, appreciate every video done. Some are over my head. So what! If I do what is suggested and have trouble. There's always this comment section to ask on. Scott - you are doing a fantastic job.

I appreciate that. Unfortunately, when you are on, RUclips, every little thing that you say or do, and every checkbox you check gets double and triple checked by everybody who views, and sometimes the editing process causes mistakes. And sometimes I speak from an emotional place instead of a technical Place.

Do you have a video on setting up a brand new out of the box Windows 11 lap top? Showing how to remove bloat, install anti virus etc. and why or why not you do the set up the way you do it? It would be awesome for us novice users.😉

    1) Yes the registry is not for the average person, (which is something I'm in, all the time). It is also why so many people end up restoring, or re-installing windoz!
    2) If a person only reads emails or orders something online or plays basic games, then they should install a Linux Mint. They wont know the difference, (there's
just an equivalent of the start button to get to all that). There's *NO* registry problems, or weekly updates, or fear you touch something and it doesn't work!
    Linux will repair itself!

*MY BIGGEST BITCH ABOUT WINDOZ IS THAT EACH NEW VERSION ENDS UP WITH EVERYTHING BEING MOVED AROUND :AGAIN !"* *WHY, MICROSHAFT!?!?!*

This is me reflecting on Windows 11 in 2023!
    - with so many issues with any Windows operating system. Why waste my time dealing with a useless and pathetic operating system like Windows when all everyone does in their time is deal with issues with Windows operating systems like viruses and corrupt files and hackers getting into your system and messing with stuff causing you to get annoyed upset and mad and possibly even costing you time and money. So that's why in 2024 it's out with the old in with the new! NO WINDOWS OPERATING SYSTEMS IN 2024! Minimizing the possible issues and threats from hackers and corrupt workers who work for Google Microsoft and Apple and Verizon wireless and AT&t and T-Mobile and other cell phone mobile carriers as well as Internet carriers companies who all work in conjunction with one another to steal your metadata hence your telemetry and sell it to the intelligence community hence the (NSA) and the (FBI) and the (CIA) (IE) = the United States Federal Government under ("Operation Hemisphere") and ("Operation PRISIM PROGRAM ") and ("The 2001 Patriot Act") = ("FIVE EYES")

the mom and pop you refer to are more than likely savvy enough to understand what a computer virus is but maybe not necessarily how to remove it and they hand it off to the tech savvy gen y or zer in the house lol or call the local tech guy my grandma is in her 80s and always asking me to fix stuff thats not even broke to begin with its just some setting she messed with that i have to fix
if they know to look for the fix on youtube let alone specifically who to trust they have to have some level of smarts

@MsLynnabelle you can't. It can't be uninstalled. You can manually delete it and it will come right back with the next Windows update. Best to just delete or hide the desktop and taskbar icons, leave it on the PC for emergency browsing 👍
