This is truly bizarre. Maybe because there was a long walk back after the foul ball. Literally nobody was paying attention. The managers, the defense, the pitcher, the announcers, the catcher, the hitter even... they all missed it. This is a very bizarre phenomenon that needs to be studied.

I'm pretty sure it's because of the way the ump called strike 3, he didn't do some dramatic strikeout call he just acted like it was strike 1 or 2.

But the players on the Sox, especially Hill and the catcher should have known regardless. It is pretty strange.

Of all people, you would think that the pitcher would be aware of the count. He struck the guy out.

Not just bad umpiring--bad managing, bad coaching, bad announcing, bad scoreboard operating, etc.

Has to one of the craziest things in baseball. How could the Pitcher, Catcher, Ump, Announcers, scoreboard operator, Fans…Alex Cora gets a pass. He’s asleep most of the time anyway.

WOW! What if the Astros were losing AND the last pitch in this at bat resulted in the winning homerun resulting in a one run Astros win AND the Red Sox miss the playoffs by one game AND/OR the Astros earn the final playoff spot by one game AND none of this gets noticed by countless spectators at the game and at home and on the internet UNTIL somebody somewhere checks this particular replay AFTER the Astros win this year's World Series?
    (Phew! World's longest question. )
If this were the case, the entire umpiring crew at this game could never order a steak, get a cab or even book a hotel room anywhere in ALL of New England.
    Hilarious stuff!

Don’t think showing 1-3 is even an option… Batter is out and he resets the count. Guess he didn’t want to reset it and was confused why he wasn’t out.

@@payasofeo69 Good point. BUT, I would think once he hits the button it would clear out the count to 0-0. But maybe he's not allowed to until the call is confirmed by the commentator.

Yordan leads the mlb on base percentage...yordan knew he was getting away with an extra strike he was swinging at anything on the Last pitch before the umpires noticed it.
