- In the Razor Rocks scenario you have to build 10 coasters with at least 6.00 excitement. Can you do that without opening the park?

So there is a little bit of confusion here, which is my bad as I should've explained it better. The way I did this is not possible in RCT1 as for example the mini coaster doesn't exist there. In these videos I am approaching the challenge from an RCT2 perspective, but I might use RCT1 scenarios if they pose interesting challenges. Too many things have changed to keep it 100% faithful to RCT1 and recording in RCT1 is too annoying to be an option.
I might give this a go in RCT1 one day!
Is it fair to add "(in OpenRCT2)" to the video title?
Can you change the title so that it adds [RCT2] or something? I'd imagine that would clear things up somewhat.
Also the Spinning Wild Mouse doesn't exist in RCT1. It's only been added to the RCT1 scenarios in OpenRCT2 to replace the Spinning cars of the Junior as far as I know.
Is the loan interest different between RCT1 and RCT2? That could make quite a difference
Imagine funding this guy.
‘Okay, we‘ll lend you your additional $15,000, and we look forward to your daily park attendance reports.’
Marcel: ‘Riiiiiiight…’
He ended up with a company value of over $200k so I'd say it worked out
Of course, the cost and liabilities of doing construction on a property not open to the public would be a lot lower.
To me this seems like the 'what if we made it look like tax evasion' park
@@Thk10188965 "So you're telling me this theme park has been under construction for 4 years, has ten rollercoasters on it, has no amenities or paths, and has never admitted a single customer? Sounds suspicious to me."
@@Arkouchie So in other words, he created a virtual version of the real life Garfield Land.
you can save a bit of cash if you only take a loan when you actually need it, instead of maxing it out at start
Good one
And don't start building until the research is finished.
He did put it lower again for the challenge, you can see that when he builds his first coasters.
Although even then he had the base loan of 10.000 in use.
@@edopronk1303 at 6:31 he has 13K in the bank, max loan. You're right about other clips, where he didn't max out his loan.
@@gamebuster800 At that same timestamp you can see the loan interest going up month per month, so he didn't have max loan the entire time.
Minor optimization. Loan interest is low, but still probably close to 700 currency. If you plan all the roller coasters you want to build in advance and save the designs, you can build them all in a few seconds each. Start by dropping your loan to 1000 currency at the beginning of the first month, then only increase it when you need to get more to pay for research (should be 9 months in). We can build all the roller coasters at the same time when we get the last coaster type, and because we have saved designs, we don't need to worry about the time. The time it takes to build all the roller coasters after increasing the loan amount should be less than 1 in game month for maximum optimization. Because we are going to be spending 1-5 currency per month until the end of the game, we save a minimum of $10*32months before accounting for the early loan increase done in this video, putting monthly loan interest to 30 at least 4 months early. Those 4 months cost more in loan interest than someone using the lower loan strategy would pay for the entire scenario.
Ah yes, magic accounting to save money
I'm not sure if I feel like pre-made coasters would spoil the achievement a bit (they're sometimes banned in Marcel's speedruns, for example), but I definitely like the idea of not sitting on more money than necessary, and I suppose practice could make the coaster building pretty dang fast anyway. I too wondered whether the loan repayment wasn't messing with the Minimum Research tactic, but it's probably still optimal as long as you only borrow the money when you need it
You don't need to increase your loan for research because you will pay for it even if you have no money. So you can let yourself go in the red due to research spending without having to pay interest.
But better yet, turn off research right before it's paid, and it will be free. Then just turn it on again. Free research.
@@chompythebeast it's not really cheating if you make the designs yourself for that scenario imo
@@JaneTaylor In speedrunning it would normally be considered non-kosher, but while this isn't speedrunning, time becomes a factor. So I guess it's just another abstract restriction you could apply to yourself or not, like Marcel suggested. But since the designs are so small anyway, I'd personally consider it more impressive to "show your math" and put it all in the final product.
Though if all you're looking for is the "lowest possible number", pre-mades will undoubtedly get you there
Still waiting for the epic 3 hour long video where Marcel outlines every single difference between RCT1, RCT2, and OpenRCT
In the meantime, I think the video explaining the difficulty curve between RCT 1 & 2 was very adequate for describing most of the important differences. For me anyway.
@@adamj2381 Staff costs also changed between RTC1 and RTC2, hiring staff in RTC2 is more expansive
For some reason I never liked RCT2 as much as RCT1 and its expansions. Also don't forget RCT Classic on phones, it's a great adaptation with many QOL changes. Easy to use with touchscreen and I prefer it over the PC versions of the game.
And RCTC, where the scenario list is heavily modified among other things (Amity Airfield is buried deep in the scenario progression where it should be)
@@ext93 you can get this version for pc. It’s called roller coaster tycoon classic
It wouldn't be a Marcel Vos video about roller coasters if he didn't take the time to crap on the Heartline Twister!
Let's be real: it deserves to be crapped on.
@@dertydawgman2942 even as a kid I knew in my heart it crossed a line
Had to take a jab at the heart line, as is tradition.
_Shot through the heart_
_And Marcel's to blame_
I wouldn't be surprised if Marcel will show us how to beat Bumbly Beach with just one guest in the park.
These are some big brain strats
Some day this guy's gonna beat a scenario without building anything.
ruclips.net/video/a5MRn-PYubY/видео.html
You called it!
He actually did this in one of the Six Flag parks. He had to run the scenario several times but he beat it eventually without doing anything.
It's already happened
You can beat quite a few scenarios by simply advertising.
Next video: Marcel completes every scenario without opening the game.
I mean, it's possible, just edit the file that keeps track of scenario completion
@@CouchPotator Ahhh, but we all know that would simply be too easy for him...
Is it possible to build an entire park underground (except the first tile going down of course)? I would love to see you doing that!
Considering the small space given (isn't the build limit -6 units or something), thus removing the possibillty of (most?) coasters with a drop requirement, that would be really interesting to see.
I don't recall there being an underground limit, except for absolute bottom, which might be -6 height in absolute units. But relative to the surface, there's no limit
@@budgetgitarr5351 good point. I guess a scenario could be created where the land surface is just much higher, though
There is the piramide mount in RCT1, which is almost that.
Marcel, I'm convinced that at this point, you know more about RCT than Chris Sawyer himself :D
Ah but Chris has the original assets and assembly.
So he's still outmatched.
@@LaskyLabs Yeah, but who knows how long it's been since Sawyer has reacquainted himself with the code?
Next challenge: what's the most difficult scenario you can beat using only the heartline coaster? 😁😁
Good idea lol.
If you can beat it with only the heartline coaster, is it really difficult at all?
Having a heartline coaster for one second probably
''haha you can't ride these''
-Marcel to the guests
Eric Cartman vibes
At this point Marcel must have accumulated enough knowledge of this game to emulate it in his mind.
"Yeah, Marcel's mind can run RCT, but can it run DOOM?" :P
Nice, your vids inspired me to get open RCT2 and I love it. Thank you
Marcel in 2022: Can You Beat Razor Rocks Without Opening The Park?
Marcel in 2032: Can You Beat Every RCT2 Scenario Without Opening The Game?
Deurklink just made a video on that.
RCT was one of my childhood favorites. Now I don't even need to play it to re-live the game. Just need to watch Marcel!
Wondering why you don't make use of the "rocks"? Passing through the "rocks", making the coasters partly underground can increase the excitement rating quite a lot. Secondly, building underground is a bit cheaper if I remember it correctly. Then you could save even more money.
I thought building underground treated it as building several height units of supports?
Building underground costs more
Building underground defaults to around 5-7 units of height per piece in price. With those particular designs, there was not too much he could do to balance the cost of building underground.
i love how in depth youve gotten into the game, videos are always entertaining
The inverted coaster can use launch mode in original RCT.

I'm so happy there are channels like yours keeping the amazing games from years ago going and going strong. Thank you from a long time gamer. Keep up the fantastic work
These challenge videos are a lot of fun. Keep 'em coming if you please.
This may be the most impressive challenge completion yet, mad props man!
So cool Marcel. It's videos like this that really make me think back playing this as a kid
Your content is really entertaining, thanks for continuing to make stuff!
Now this was interesting! A real test of efficiency and understanding the game.
Love these challenge type videos!
Hilarious and awesome! Amazing video!
This is honestly a very nice challenge. Great idea!
Watching this makes me realise that those weird Chinese parks are just the owners trying to beat a scenario with a crazy restriction.
Oi also question: I swear when I played the game as a kid it was possible to have a swinging suspended coaster crash into another swinging suspended coaster on an adjacent track. Can anyone confirm?
I'd be interested to know this too
I just tried it and couldn't make it happen
Seems like one of those things I designed against just because I assumed that made sense. Until Marcel came along, and especially in those early internet days when we were younger and more inexperienced, RollerCoaster Tycoon was a near-complete mystery that just worked the way you would expect it to the vast majority of the time―so assuming swinging coasters could whack each other and crash that way was an entirely reasonable assumption, even if it's apparently untrue
@@chompythebeast I thought the same with the bobsled coaster taking turns too fast without banking (that it would fly off). Though I still sometimes do weird, but unnecessary, things on coasters to make them more "realistic." Going too far without supports also bothers me a lot.
@@scottthewaterwarrior I second the support thing. I deliberately try my best to not skip too many, feels bad
20 years ago this park took me like 40 in-games and I ended up making my first Mega Park. Guests eventually rebelled since the layout was too complicated.
Yes. I did about 8 years ago, but not in Open RCT2, only in LL.
In LL, you don't have to pay research cost by setting no funding in some period.
Amazing!
I'd really like to see the statistical breakdown of clicking on balloons/ducks, the real meta-game
I'm curious if you think any coaster types are misrepresented in game compared to their real life counterparts, ie a coaster type is more exciting irl than in the game.
From what I’m told pipeline roller coasters are unique enjoyable experiences, and has always had very mediocre performance in game
I'd say that there's no reason for a "giga coaster" or "twister coaster" to be any more exciting than a "corkscrew" coaster with the exact same layout and operating mode. (Those IRL being, respectively, Intamin and B&M track design tracks vs. the older Arrow/Vekoma design).
@@nthgth If you rode both types in real life you'd see that the B&Ms and Intamins having higher stats than the Arrows and Vekomas generally makes sense. One exception would be Magnum XL 200 but that ride is really in a league all on its own and doesn't ride like Arrows later hyper coasters
@@AdamSmith-gs2dv good point. Thinking about it, I have ridden most of those types (can't think of any Intamin though), but at different times in my life, so it's really not an apples to apples comparison. I just need to get back out there.
I _do_ remember B&M coasters being out-of-this-world fantastic though.
For original RCT I'd definitely use the Wildmice coasters + Virginia reel as synchronised, Launched steel+ Corkscrew + Inverted, Either syncronised or interlocking loops, then a floorless (launch/booster + inversions), Flying (Even just the minimum half loop down, piece, half loop up can probably be boosted with interlocking track) and *Maybe* a Vertical drop or something heavily stat boosted.
The biggest issue is probably that just about every coaster besides the inverted coaster (Maybe the wildmice?) has somewhat lower excitement in RCT, on top of the no multiple laps.
Next challenge: can you beat Diamond Heights without opening the game
Hum, I think the rocket coaster only existed in the mini steel coaster and the mini coaster was added because of OpenRCT2
Edit: yes, the mini coaster didn't exist in RCT1 at all, but since the challenge was done in openrct2, they were given away, so technically not done in a way that isn't OpenRCT2 exclusive
so I did a video (Yeah I spoke french, but it dose have the proof that the mini coaster dosen't exist in RCT1). ruclips.net/video/oTe9xhJZXD4/видео.html
The Steel Mini coaster in RCT1 was basically split into 2 coaster types in RCT2: The Junior and Mini Coasters. As OpenRCT2 is based off of RCT2, it has the split; however the developers added the Classic Mini Coaster to the game as there was some functionality lost between the RCT1 and RCT2 incarnations of the ride and they wanted you to be able to play the RCT1 scenarios closer to how you would've in the original game.
So you did end up opening the park, amazing :p
Razor Rocks is easier then we thought for sure.
*than
Easier in RCT2 than the original game
But can you do it in original RCT Loopy Landscapes? There's no spinning wild mouse ride in that game, so I was instantly suspicious. Also don't think you can give any coaster multiple laps.
I'm not sure if that's possible. I am approaching these scenarios from a basis of RCT2, because making videos with RCT1 is much more difficult.
@@MarcelVos At least you're honest about that. Your videos are always the opposite of clickbait.
RCT1 definitely worked quite differently. You'd need to use different techniques if the challenge even could be done.
What about a fun video about the best food and drink stalls (in your own opinion aka what is the tastiest/best for you when you are in an amusement park) ?
Kijk hem gaan dan , vroeger toen ik dit non stop speelde kon ik razor Rocks nooit halen ik werd er helemaal gek van! Hij doet het gewoon ff zo simpel respect! 😎🤜🤛

Cool accent dude :) it’s really nice (as a Englishman) to hear our language clearly but with such a different set of sounds- I’m for sure grateful that you chose to record in English rather than Dutch because I would stand no chance!! Hopefully this will mean that lots of people will get to enjoy your content, I do realise how spoilt we are here!
Keep it up :) lots of love :)
I remember my friend had this game and my mind was blown when I saw it🤯
Thanks Marcel
You can set your loan to 0 and turn research off for every pay cycle (4 times per month). When you've researched everything that you need, you'll have lost no money to interest or research. Then you'll have the full 25,000 to work with. If you build quickly enough, you can finish before interest is paid.
Correction on 1:22 Classic mini roller coaster and Junior roller coaster are not same. Game checks for car types. which for one are Rocket cars and for other are Ladybird Trains.
I managed to complete it with 2 wooden wild mosue 1 had mouse cars and 1 had mine cars and so on. In total 3 pairs of exact same track design with different cars counted as 6 rides. So I ended up winning this with only 7 different track designs.
Very impressive
This is probably a no brainer to some, but I recently had this park with no entry for rides and I used you trick with the minimum maximum thing in combination with the free ride couppons.
GGWP!!!!:)
Next video: Marcel beats Arid Heights when renaming the park HappyWorldLand and the only ride is a monorail.
The Spiffing Britt is not gonna be happy about you out exploiting him lol
1:25 The "Classic Mini Roller Coaster" is NOT considered the same as the Junior by OpenRCT2. It may have done so before the ride groups were scrapped, but that was years ago.
6:02 Powered launch on the Inverted coaster is not unique to OpenRCT2, RCT1 has it too.
I like to imagine that these parks are used in an investment scheme, and someone buys them on their purported qualities, only to arrive at his purchase only to wander around this surreal collection of disassociated pairs of rollercoasters that surely must be not really a park but in fact one of the sets from _Kin Dza-Dza_.
You are a magician. That's the only possible answer.
Good video
I've never played this game and yet I find this oddly compelling

Poor Heartline Coaster can't catch a break in any vid.
Marcel, This is pretty impressive. I think loopy landscape's pleasure island would be more difficult than this. Maybe a new challenge?
impressive
Marcel do you take suggestions on beating parks with specific challenges?
I did Infernal Views by shutting the park, selling the big wooden coaster and then pretty much doing this. The loan interest is higher at 10% (and I'm obvs not as good at building coasters) so I spent c£30k in total but it's totally possible
You're an RCT wizard.
Come on down to Razor Rocks now. But don't plan on getting past the parking lot cause remember: There's so much to do at Razor Rocks, but you. can't. come.
When I was playing that I was sad that my log flume with an excitement of 6.9 didn't count :(
Have you considered doing games like OpenTTD or Railroad Tycoon? OpenTTD is also based off Chris Sawyer and RRT is a pretty solid Sim too (they even have companies you can invest and sell stocks in).
I'm curious what other scenarios can be beaten with very small amounts of money. Or maybe beat scenarios where you have an extra rule where you can't change anything after you open the park.
Imagine paying top dollar for this park expecting your engineer to hand you over some crazy insane money making machine and you look at it and there’s not even paths 💀
How about building a heartline twister with 6 excitement?
Not cash goal or anything, just see if it even can be done.
IIRC, wasn’t RCT1/LL incapable of multi lap coasters? (As well as not having the spinning mouse.)
I wonder if this could be done in RCT1.
The Dutch is strong in this one.
I am disappointed that you weren't optimizing for loan interest and only picking up the next 1000€ when you absolutely need to.
For some odd reason he thinks taking out the max loan immediately is optimal.
Is this also possible on the retail version of RCT2?
Next best Amity Airfield without opening the game
I don't think the classic mini coaster is the same as the junior coaster. Rather, the classic mini coaster shares the same train types as the junior coaster, and the mini coaster. Coaster type is based on the train, not on the track. If one of those three coasters had an unique train, you would have 10 different coaster types.
I remember beating this scenario by making Razor Rocks a legitimate park.
was the air-powered vertical coaster too expensive at the end? it could go over 6 excitement easily
really expensive
Is there a limit on how many inversions and/or drops a ride may have? Because I get the impression some penalty applies when the inversions/drops hit the double digits.
There's no penalty for having a certain number of drops or inversions, but they stop giving excitement bonuses after 9 drops or 6 inversions. If your intensity rating gets too high, of course, that'll give you a penalty, but it's not the specific drop or inversion count _per se_ that causes it.
Well this’ll be a short video if it’s not possible so we know what the answer to the title is
Yes you can!
so after doing some calculations you could have saved almost 800-1k euro in loan interests
Because you did barrow all money at the start and did the research you lost money over time
If you start with 1k loan and gradually build up when needed you can save at least 800 euro over time
Of cause you can also save money if you are lucky with research but this is a chance game which could save you a couple 100 euro as well
And it took me 12 in-game years (RCTC, for some reason RCT1 deLuxe currently wont work), absolutley horrendous looping coaster monstrosity and many many sessions scratching my head WITH the park opened :/ sometimes i question what the fuck did i learn in 2 decades of playing the game, having most recently completed this scenario last year.
Yes

Next up: Can you beat rainbow summit with the entire park filled with trees
In the beginning you said the mini coaster cant be used since its the same type as the junior coaster but you ended up building both anyway. Why is that?
Kinda sketchy that park. Small coasters that repeat 100 times, no stalls, no toilets , not even path. Would only visit if cheap price.
Couldn't you've just deleted the path by the entrance? Sure, it's not much, but it would give you some cash and all little bits help.
