Taking a vacation, Paul? Your watercolor is probably calling you and you're dipping under the lavender water! Love your color mixings and other tips as always. You just so naturally drop in very helpful tips that other artists assume (I guess they do anyway) that we know about oil painting, which I have yet to try but many of your skills I can apply to acrylics! One is that beautiful outcropping of rock at the top of the falls! Gorgeous! Will see you when you return from your vacation! Hope it's a delightful one 🤗🤗 Cheryl
Hi Cheryl. A painting vacation sounds wonderful. Hopefully soon. I'm pleased the little tips and trick are useful. I tend to get into my paintings and say what ever comes into my head. Thank goodness some of it makes sense! Love the yellow bird painting too.😃
@@PaulRansonArt Thanks, Paul! And seriously whatever is in your head needs to be shared, or actually more people should be watching and learning! Guess peops pretty much like speed paintings with music 🤣🤣😅😅And so I see you're able to reply from you holiday beach house! LOL! 🤗
Hello, the haze rising over the waterfall gives it a fantastic feeling. The delicately expressed trees are also beautiful. The part where you taught me how to handle the rocks by the waterfall and the leaves between them was really helpful. Thanks for sharing nice pictures and videos.
Thank you so much 😀 Tina. This has been a favourite painting of mine for many years. I've paintied it and sold different versions over and over. Have fun painting your version. Best wishes - Paul 😃😎
Wow - this brings back happy memories. My effort is proudly hung in my Mum's house in Cornwall and she is always being asked who is the artist! Couldn't have done it without your guidance. Happy painting.
BTW, I wanted to ask you if you have ever used the Golden open acrylic paint. You see, I am not too confident about using oil paint or thinners. Although i am eager to paint like you or Bob Ross but in a healthier, less expensive manner.
I've painted a lot in acrylics over the years but not the Bob Ross style of paintings which rely on slow drying paint. All the soft blending and highlighting would be much harder but not impossible! Look for acrylic retarders that slow the drying time a little. These might help out a little. Plus the Atelier brand that can be re wetted and worked acrylics. These can almost work like oils. Give then a try and see how you get on 😃😍😎
Lovely Paul. I had forgotten how useful black gesso is, and Bob Ross used it a lot, A dreamy scene. If I turned the audio off, I could swear it was Bob Ross painting this scene.
Good choice. I think this is one of my favourite Bob Ross paintings. Its no suprise its also the one I've painted most often at shows and classes. Enjoy playing with the colours and making it your own too. 😃😎
Thank you Melissa. I do my best to paint this but Terri is the undisputed expert on this scene. When ever we did painting demo's for art societies or craft fairs this was Terri's opening painting.
Great lesson in painting waterfalls Paul will be having a go myself starting and stopping the video as I go , Paul have you any tips on setting up your work area in your home in cleaning your brushes etc i have an art room but to clean brushes as Bob cleans his my room would be a mess hope you can help . 🤞
Hi Frank - I would advise you to consider setting up a cleaning station outddors if you have the space/access. I have a small crate outside the back door with my thinner in a small plastic pot. An old pair of Croc shoes act as a place to leave my brushes to dry with an old towel. I use a Bob Ross brush cleaning rack and a ziploc bag as a liner. Beside that I have an old kitchen bin with a lid and a beater rack. I wash, beat and dry my brushes outdoors. Now, of this isn't an option then move the same setup indoors and leave it by an open window when your through cleaning. Leave your final clean up till the end of the day and close the door to let the brushes air dry whilst your not in the room. The alernative to this would be to use water mixable oils. As the name suggests you can clean your brushes in soap and water. BUT note IMO Bob Ross brushes don't like water!! The bristles swell and the brushes loose their shape. Try using a synthetic alternative. - Hope that helps
HI Paul , Thanks for your quick reply I live in a retirment 3 floor top flat so outside is not an option for me I would have no problem cleaning the brushes as I work and dry them as required as you said with old towels etc then at the end of the session clean them and hang iin my boiler room to dry, will give it a go . 👍😄
Hi.I use the Bob ross screen and bucket then have the rack inside a bucket w a plastic bag in it .I also have plastic on the floor just where I sit works awesome. Hope this helps.
Great question Michael. It depends on what I start my painting with. If its Liquid Clear the finish has a shine to it. If its Liquid White it can have some shine to it but its mostly matt. I usually let my paintings dry for a while then give them a thin spray of artist satin varnish. This gives a nice even shine to all my paintings. Hope this helps 😃
@@MikeL0084 - This is a brand I've used before with good results amzn.to/3Kv5rkA They make a Matt version and a Retouch Varnish amzn.to/3KnTDkg which is used more when the paints have dried with an uneven sheen. The Retouch varnish dries with a satin sheen which is quite nice. Remember to use in a well ventilated room. 😊😊😉😉
Hi Miranda, The liquid clear is quite important to be able to spread the initial lavender paint and blend subsequent layers. As an alternative I've used linseed oil applied very thinly. It works well but dries a little faster especially on a warm day so you might have to do the painting in sections. Definitely do able though.

could you tell me the canvas agin used?
