As a keyboard player and a kid of the 80's I just hope Behringer is true to the promised attention on the keybed and playing feel. The promises about the keyboard action and poly aftertouch combined with the Oberheim sound really is what makes me want this thing, if it is well priced. As interesting and good sounding synth as the DeepMind is, the keyboard version is really sub par and awfully plastic.
I love what Behringer is doing and have A LOT of their gear, but I'm not convinced that this thing is ready until I hear that characteristic Oberheim resonance in a filter sweep. ;-)

Thank you an excellent demo, you can tell that a lot of work has gone into the sound engine since the last videos dropped, it’s very close, but still seems to lack the punch and bottom end of the original.
My feeling exactly. It does seem that they do not have the phase of each oscillator independent from the others (like what you get with DCOs, as in the Oberheim Matrix series).
The "bottom end" was demonstrated in an earlier video. No need to worry...it DOES have it. But I agree on that "punch" topic. While listening to the "Prince" part, I was wondering if - maybe - Prince sent his OB synthesizers through a compressor or something. Or maybe he recorded his music on analog tape machines and what we heard was the tape compression? 🤔
I've built an amazing synth collection over the years thanks to Behringer. I used to loathe Behringer because I bought a lot of their outboard rack gear back in the day that sounded absolutely horrendous. But I can't lie, their synth "clones" are amazing.
That’s not really difficult to answer. The unit is in production, container ships will take a while to transport them to Europe/USA. So stay tuned. Still no clear answer. The whole world is suffering from chips shortage due to US-China trade feuds and ban. Big company like Apple or Samsung don't have to worry But small brand like Behringer definitely feel the impact. My only hope is that Behringer will use this time to improve more this synth
@@guppymilk5726 behringer is NOT a small brand. there are probably other good reasons why behringer has had a much slower output in response to the chip shortage compared to other comparably sized companies who have continued producing gear, but it isnt because behringer is small and it drives me nuts when people imply that. behringer has a global presence with 3500 employees, and their peak revenue last year was 30 million dollars. korg by comparison has only 290 employees, and grossed 7.6 million dollars last year. between 2020 and now they have released at least 17 hardware products by my count, far more than behringer.
@@loreleiofthemist respectfully you're doing the wrong google search. Behringer is Music Tribe, which has over $800M in revenue. Not $30M like you're getting mixed data on (wrong company called Behringer). The production slow-down is partly chip and supply chain issues, but partly cautious production planning as the world came out of the pandemic bubble and faces tighter financials. The company has its own chip fabs, but it still reliant on the overall supply chain for parts.
People are constantly kvetching about Behringer not delivering. Is that going to change? I want to know if they are recouping any of the money they are blowing on advertising products that haven’t arrived yet.
Did you not see all the announcements yesterday? There have been a few things going on to disrupt production, if you’ve been living in a hole for a while. Behringer are delivering products as soon as they are physically able.
@welcometosynthpunk Because they are multi million pound companies and have a massive stockpile of chips, Behringer can not order chips in that quantitie without paying extra and putting the cost of the synths up.
Chip shortage, another bigger more established brands have access to services that Behringer do not and to gain access they would have to pay like the big boys putting the cost of this sythersizor up in price massively and destroy the Behringer rule. Low cost quality products.
i don't mind 4 years when they put out a decent product after that. And i expect, in Behringer terms, to be this a decent product: When put to normal use, in a true flightcase on the road, it will survive and be ready for its next performance. But we'll see, when it becomes available and reviews by Nick Batt, Loopop, and Sweetwater are published.
Me to would like some detailed filter comparisons, on the other hand: There's sufficient oberheim hit recordings around and one with experienced ears will have heard enough after this video: The filters and most other things are pretty, pretty close! Also, for your information: Every sound, including the drums, is made by the UBX on this video.
But for what I have been saying all the time about having too many synthesizers and having decided 2023 was my zero purchase year, I would otherwise want one of these.
They tease so many products it's starting to become a meme and the attention is starting to become counterproductive. I absolutely love that fact that they have made really great copies of some pretty expensive synths which greatly benefit the everyday musicians who can't afford the originals myself included. The issue l have is the synth market is not that big and even if there wasn't a chip shortage the chances of all of these prototypes going to market would be very slim. I wish they would just pick two or three and really concentrate on bringing them to market in the near future.
Ok but they have to do something. Time marches on so they keep doing R&D and have the ability to create working prototypes so why not show us? They could just quietly be working on these things and just release them when they can but in my opinion this is more interesting. They have a proven track record of releasing a lot of high quality synthesizers both clones and original (Deepmind, Neutron) and they are doing what they can to keep us in the loop with new product concepts. Some may never get released but I’d expect most of them to be on sale in the next year or so. Gives you something to look forward to.
@@ericMT l would imagine 2% of the synths they have teased ever get released unless they’re sitting on a stockpile of chips. I’m with you l like to see what companies are up to and at first it was cool now it’s annoying and it’s clear in every comment section of one of these teasers.
@@kevinjackson7539 1 in 50? Have they even teased 50 different synths yet? and based on their track record with previous models I wouldn't count on them not delivering 90% of them. I guess they use some of this as a way to gauge the reception and likely sales demand.
@@robdownes5159 l get all of that but a person from the company got into one of the comment sections from their channel and when people complained they immediately talked about the chip shortage and that’s not changing anytime soon. When Korg, Moog or Sequential talk about new products l take notice and get excited with these guys I’m out.
@@kevinjackson7539 I'm not sure what the issue is? There's a widely recognised shortage of chips, and at the volumes they'd require them to fulfil the volume of orders then it causes a genuine problem. They clearly have enough for prototyping work etc which is what you'd expect a development team to be doing rather than sitting and waiting. While I'm not a huge fan of some of the way they go about things, I don't really see the problem with sharing details of the products they're working to develop.

Well, all beta testers had the real thing, the OB-Xa, not the OB-X8, and high end monitors as well. The UB-Xa does sound like the real thing and additionally can make sounds that the OB-Xa can’t produce. Stay tuned. You’ll be surprised.

It sounds "generic" , no specific flavor , not bad ,not great either , ask Mick macneil of simple minds if it really sounds like a obx-a cause he was specialized in the instrument , if he says it does then i believe it , personally i owned 6 voice obx and a ob8 , it doesn't ring a bell on this one soundwise
@@Bernd_Bruening Is it like the Deepmind keybed? Not a fan of that keybed at all. The action on it is terrible. Please say it's not like the Deepmind keybed.
Hello Bernd. I'm going through you seeing that you master the beast. I ordered a Ub-xa, I've I noticed that in the instructions, to make a factory set, you have to factory default and select WIPE PATCHES. The problem is that there is no such function, only the reset of the A, B, C, D banks, atrophy and a full hard reset. I also noticed that in bank A, from 118 to 127, it says preset, and in 128 a sound called Demigorgon. And all B,C and D banks are already full of sounds created. Is this normal? If I do a Full Hard Reset, do I lose all the sounds including those from Bank A? Thank you in advance for your reply and I apologize for the inconvenience.
You can do a full reset to factory settings. All factory presets can be restored. However, you’ll will loose your custom sounds, so I highly recommend to do a backup first. Some presets in bank A are empty, simply because the original OB-Xa was provided with only 104 factory presets.
One point is resolved now: It does jump! And as demonstrated it also does massive fat layers, so that the full spectrum is filled up in some parts of this song. For me this is the demo that i've been waiting for, and doubtless many others with me. Thank you! i would like some additional technical information though: The number of voices? Is keyboard split supported? What audio/midi, and possibly cv connections? Surely i'm getting more and more interested here ...

Poly aftertouch will make different from a obxa anyways. Will be cool
Great video, thank you!
This is a video from parallel universe, where Behringer actually sells the products they advertise
Did you not see all the announcements yesterday? There have been a few things going on to disrupt production, if you’ve been living in a hole for a while. Behringer are delivering products as soon as they are physically able.
Chip shortage dummy
You act like coronavirus only happened to Behringer lol
@welcometosynthpunk Because they are multi million pound companies and have a massive stockpile of chips, Behringer can not order chips in that quantitie without paying extra and putting the cost of the synths up.
Chip shortage, another bigger more established brands have access to services that Behringer do not and to gain access they would have to pay like the big boys putting the cost of this sythersizor up in price massively and destroy the Behringer rule. Low cost quality products.
Finally. 4 years...
i don't mind 4 years when they put out a decent product after that. And i expect, in Behringer terms, to be this a decent product: When put to normal use, in a true flightcase on the road, it will survive and be ready for its next performance.
But we'll see, when it becomes available and reviews by Nick Batt, Loopop, and Sweetwater are published.
I would prefer a demo of the actual sound of the filter and individual presets without drums
If he’d done so you‘d ask for the „sounds in the context of an actual music production“. So who cares.
Only three more sleeps until Monday 20th November!!!🤞 🎹 🎉
Excellent sound!
Has this thing streeted yet?
Not to my knowledge.
Not even close …
stunning overdub!
Sounds great :)
Sounds great! 👍👍👍
If this comes in at a good price and is reliable, it will be this thats remembered and not the obx8 i think
This isn't gonna be a cheap synth. I think its $1500+
@@uv77mc85versus the obx8 being $4999, so kind of a moot point. this will VASTLY undercut it
@@loreleiofthemist 1500 is a lot for a synth though especially when it's made in China. You can pick up mint Rev 2's for 1000 and I even got a mint Prophet 5 for 2000 last week so there is no way I'm spending 1500 on a Behringer. It will be a good buy used though when they start popping up for 500
@@uv77mc85 -- Would you feel better about it if they build some of them in Germany and sell one of those to you for $2500 instead of $1500?
So its ready now? Awesome.
It has been ‘ready‘ for three years or so.
You just can‘t buy it.
Announcement this morning that it’s going into production.
Nice 👍🏼 man I need this ☝️
? ? ? I want this box of fun-ness, what is the story on this one 🎼 ? ? ? OH Jolly Dude in the red puffy suit, can you leave one under the tree this Christmas 🎄🎁 🎹🎵🎶
Would be nice if they actually release the damn thing!
It won't happen, nowadays they only make demo synths, 1 piece per new synth. 🙂 It's like art paintings...lol
@@Aetila -- They said the same thing about the PolyD and the 2600.
@@ConwayBob
Ok...I was sceptical about the B-ARP 2600, I admit...and then they delivered it, to my surprise! lol I want to see the "toy synths" they announced a year ago, I would buy them all.
Don't tell me this means it's actually ready for order soon?! That Anderton's demo fiasco gave me the impression it was close then, but what was that like almost a year already??I was starting to think maybe I imagined this synth😁😁
I wouldn’t say soon, they aren’t in production yet according to them.
@@MusicZeroOne also, Behringer has publicly stated that this will drop December 2023 at the earliest, but also said “no promises”.
I'm not sure if this will ever finally hit retail, did you know that behringer owned the rights to Oberheim, but sold them back To Tom Oberheim, I've owned for about 3-weeks now the OB-X8, and with this bad boy I have the advantage of sounding like any of the OBs, and the Ubxa doesn't sound like my OB-X8, I'm listening through high-end studio monitors focal trio 11 be, I really hear what people are saying it doesn't sound like an Oberheim but similar with some sounds, I never bother with knock-offs if I really love a synth and want the real deal I rather have the real thing, but for people that can't afford an OB, and want to feel like they've got the OB, then good for them, just don't have the real one in front of you and comparing on high-end monitors lol
Well, all beta testers had the real thing, the OB-Xa, not the OB-X8, and high end monitors as well. The UB-Xa does sound like the real thing and additionally can make sounds that the OB-Xa can’t produce. Stay tuned. You’ll be surprised.
bourgeois! ;p
It doesn't sound like the ob xa
@mirkomarkovic3438 it does
@@Bernd_Bruening it's an approximation, yes
Dumb question, but are there "save-able" presets?
I don't understand your question. You'll get four banks with 128 presets. All presets can be overwritten with user sounds.
Absolutely Ryan, the days of the Juno-6 are long gone thankfully. There is no ROM/RAM distinction, as the Synth King said all presets can be overwritten. There's no such thing as a dumb question!
@@Bernd_Bruening You understood and answered perfectly. :)
@@Goldfishclown ❤
Is it possible to know what drums did you use here?. I am looking for a hardware for that kind of punchy sound. If not possible it is ok. :) Thanks in advance.
I've used Steinberg groove agent vsti for the drums. Sounds like they've used heavily processed Linn Drum and TR909 for this kit.
@@Bernd_Bruening thanks a lot :)
WOW! Will this thing be mine some day??? ❤❤❤ Thnx ULI!
Having played an OB-Xa in the 80s... at times this synth really sounds like it.
Think your memory has probably gone a bit in the last 40 years mate.
It seems not yet available in the stores...(?)
I was told mid January by Sweetwater
@MichaelMartinez-mr3uy Thomann germany says 2-3 weeks
Off with that 4 pole light!
Sounds epic that fair play
What's the keybed like?
It’s fine. The brass preset in the demo gets its vibrato via aftertouch. As a player you’ve got a good control over the aftertouch intensity.
@@Bernd_Bruening Is it like the Deepmind keybed? Not a fan of that keybed at all. The action on it is terrible. Please say it's not like the Deepmind keybed.
@@jtomlinsonster I haven’t got a Deepmind, so can’t compare.
@@Bernd_Bruening Not hard to access a DM to compare … unless you’d just rather not say …
@@kierenmoore3236 I can't compare it with something I don't have.
@@Bernd_Bruening Thank you for taking the time to answer me, and thank you also for the valuable information you have given me.
One point is resolved now: It does jump!
And as demonstrated it also does massive fat layers, so that the full spectrum is filled up in some parts of this song.
For me this is the demo that i've been waiting for, and doubtless many others with me. Thank you!
i would like some additional technical information though:
The number of voices?
Is keyboard split supported?
What audio/midi, and possibly cv connections?
Surely i'm getting more and more interested here ...
Specs have been mentioned before (16 voices, single/split/dual mode, din/usb midi, mono/stereo out, pedal & controller inputs)
Hey great videos can this synth replicate van Halen's intro to jump?
I haven’t tried it yet, but I hope so 😂
Oh ok looking forward to it if you do

Wow!!
Well, the knobs look like they'd pop off at the slightest breeze, but that's no biggie, and the rest looks (and more importantly *sounds*) pretty decent! My skepticism has officially turned to excitement. 😊
The knobs are rock solid, no need to worry about that. Overall build quality is superb. You will get a lot of synth for a reasonable price
@@Bernd_Bruening That's great to hear! From my phone screen they look like those cheap plastic satin-finish ones, but I guess I'm happily mistaken.
I was already intrigued a year or two ago when I leaned it's going to have PolyAt, but the sound hadn't really grabbed me yet. Since your latest demonstration here though, I'm sold. 😊👍 It looks like a great, modern solution for what I was hoping to find a Matrix 6 for.
