I do agree with you that you should not stitch over plastic teeth, however, this is nylon coil, zipper teeth, so you are absolutely safe to do that. But I’m not gonna lie, eventually this could dull your blade, but you should really change your blade every year maybe less if you are using your surgery a lot. I typically change my blade every year though. It’s also a good idea to get your surgery. Serviced every year to two years depending on how much you use it.
Ok but wouldn't it be a nightmare to try to add the zip thing if both sides are already sewn in? I always have a hard time trying to align both sides while I try to get the zip thing in.🤔 Otherwise very interesting, this might come in handy if I finally get a serger one day. Although I do also wonder about the cut edge freying.
Two things: 1. Adding the zipper pull is for sure a learning curve. Stay tuned for an additional video showing how to do this with a full length zipper :) 2. Josi get a serge! 😃 they are twice as fast as a sewing machine and fun to use !!
Right at the beginning I show (2) pieces. So this way it is sorta "lined". At around the 8 min mark I talk about using both top front pieces. Sorry it wasn't more clear. Looking forward to seeing your finished bag.
@@SookieSews I so glad that the question was asked because I totally missed it. When I went back and watched that portion again, I did notice the 2 pieces of top fabric.
I definitely understand. Ive personally got osteoarthritis but most days I’m on. Now this set of instructions does not focus on using a connected zipper but it is for sure doable. Here’s what I’d do…use a zipper 4-6” longer than what was recommended. Then you’ll be able to easily do the same thing. Now there will be some materials attached to the first side laying in your lap while you’re stitching the second side and there will be some waste but it will get you serging and that is the small price to pay to use your machine and make something! I’ll make a video soon showing a few zipper variations. @@SookieSews thank you …great look forward to seeing video …we had an accident here a few yrs ago with Tom falling off ladder and I pushed him away from being killed on a metal table … but he fell back on me and my hand overextended backwards cause trigger fingers and i-t band leg injuries.. so when my hands tell me I stop . It’s all good - can always be worse ..did not do surgery as I’m not good with any of that ..
@sewsue1586 I’m so so sorry about that terrible thing that happened to you and your hubs. I’m gonna for sure create a little video talking about this. I believe where there is a will there’s a way! We’ll get you inserting zippers. But make sure you have that piping foot for your serger :)
Thank you for this great project tutorial, which is an excellent way for me to build my serger skills.
Yay! You’re so welcome. Stay tuned because I’ve got a bunch of new serger tutorials coming out
Oh I like this. I would like to make one large enough to hold my Rasant threads for taking on my sewing guild days and retreats.
I would LOVE to see that. Play with the measurements and let me know how it goes!
I love this!!! Can't wait to try this!!
Please share a photo when you make yours!!
What a great project! You explain the steps so well. This is a good project to gain confidence with sewing zippers and mesh on the serger. Thank you!
So glad to hear it was helpful! I’ve got LOTS of serger goodies coming out soon 😉 so stay tinder and if you’re not already…subscribe!
Fun project!
💛🐝😊
so many great tips! I thought you weren't supposed to serge over the plastic zipper bits.

On the top piece is it two pieces of fabric or one? We cut two but I didn’t see where it was discussed

Oh I’m so sorry. Sometimes my hands go faster than my mouth. I’ll be aware of that in future videos.
Thank you but with my hands I am not able to do small things like putting zip pull back on .. can I do this without separating zipper? 💜
