    3:11 and that my friends is why I was such a hopeless romantic in highschool. I watched waaaay to many of these classic musicals and fell in love with all the guys. Lol😜

    This song is NOT about the United States of America. It’s a love song. It is completely a play on words, referring to the FUTURE MARRIAGE of the 2 characters!! “Our (him and her) united (united in bonds of matrimony) state ( state of being).”
    And such a clever and cute way to talk about and plan for marriage! Ira Gershwin was great!!

    WOW!! Debbie Reynolds got to dance with the great "BOB FOSSE""...one of the best choreographers EVER!!!
    Bob Fosse his wife Gwen Verdon were a power team...they RULED BROADWAY!!

    Great number from a classic MGM movie that deserves to be better known. Great orchestrations and music direction by Andre Previn with assistance from Saul Chaplin and the legendary Conrad Salinger. Warner Archive VOD Service is fabulous--a must have for all classic musical lovers!

      He did dance occasionally. "The Little Prince" is a good example. There were people back in the day who said he was going to be the next Fred Astaire. But I think he was better as a teacher.

      @@adriansullivan7629 Me three!! lol I once went at her academy in LA and there was a spot with her name on right in front, sadly her car was not there. So, no way I would find her in her own stablishment...oh well! I wish I could have met her though...

    I'm reading Fosse's biography by Sam Wasson at the moment. It talks about had thin voice but i kind of like it.

    It's a nice number, but this should have been a duet. Debbie Reynolds is a better singer than Bob Fosse.

      Winston Bribach I agree. Bob Fosse was a good dancer, but was neither a great singer nor a great actor. Whatever happened to him after he stopped performing in movies at MGM?

      @@tombennett3827 Is that a rhetorical question? Fosse's a Broadway legend due to his directing and choreography. He won numerous Tony Awards and an Oscar for directing Cabaret.

    The fabulous dancing doesn't make more palatable the implied xenophobia of the lyrics: "Never will know any foreign entanglements;/Outsiders will not rate/In our united state."

      @@liorsmith I don't think you did understand the metaphor. Or you didn't grasp that it is a metaphor. They're not singing about politics or world affairs. "Never will know any foreign entanglement./ Outsiders will not rate/ In our united state" means "I won't be having any affairs outside of the marriage, and neither will you." Nothing more and nothing else. There is no implied xenophobia anywhere in sight--or within hearing.

    Mr. Fosse. Foss. "Fred Astaire mispronounced my name." His Idol. Ms. Reynolds. Eddie Fisher. And... Read her autobiography. Floss? All That Jazz. Joan. Gwen. Ann. Ms. Mascot. Not Shampoo. His sister...Debbie said Sinatra begged her not to marry a singer...like a father to her...teenager.

      Bob Fosse himself confessed that he realized that he could never reach the level of Fred Astaire (who was his idol) and that is why he decided to be "the best choreographer in history." He probably succeeded, but he himself recognized that Kelly and Astaire were way above him (as much as he tried to imitate them).
