Thanks for making this video. I bought an A50e yesterday and I think in terms of how playability it’s one of the nicest acoustic guitars I’ve ever played. I wanted a good workhorse guitar for home and playing out with electronics. I researched a bunch of guitars and this wasn’t even on my radar screen. Boy am I glad I tried it in the store and actually played one. Truly a joy to play
I was at a Tony Macmanus concert in Paisley at the Bungalow and heard this guitar being played and fell in love with it immediately. My wife traced one down on ebay in Perth and bought it at a third of the price for my birthday. When I went to pick it up it was love at first sight it sounded amazing and looked amazing the harmonics ring for ever on it. 👍😊
I have owned an A50E for almost 2 years now and I have been very impressed with the tone, playability and especially the appointments. Abolone inlays, bone nut, abolone purfling ,center back strip and abolone birds. Even though I have short, fat, fingers the wide fat neck is still comfortable to play. It stands it's own against my Taylor 224ce. IMHO, I don't think that you would be disappointed in owning one!
I have owned this guitar for almost 2 years now. It is an awesome guitar. I have since ordered a beautiful SE A60E and I am still amazed at the quality, workmanship, sound, playability etc.. of these guitars! Well done Paul! The features on these guitars (bone nut and saddle, ebony fingerboard and saddle, the woods, solid spruce tops, the bracing etc. is not found on guitars costing double!!) Both of mine are a joy to play. Stay in tune for days! Works great for recording or stage! Love these guitars! Great demo and review Jonathan! Keep up the good work!👍🙏
As the owner of both the A50 and A60, can you tell which one is better for fingerstyle and Sting-like tunes. I can't decide between the A50 and the A60. Sometimes from the videos on youtube it seems that the A50 is brighter and juicier sound, although the A60 is supposed to be a newer and better model.
Actually I made a boo boo when I commented on this video previously. I have the A40 (which looks a lot like this A50 sunburst that Jon is playing) and the A60. The A40 to my ears has more of a mahogany “ish” sound (more mids but warm). The A60 (again to my ears) has more of a rosewood (more sparkle on the highs but still good lows). As far a which is best for finger style…I suppose that would be personal preference. Still enjoying both of mine!👍
I just ordered mine of this... I love PRS' inlays on the fretboard. And the bindings on this one looks awesome! :) Tnx again Jon for a nice video. -KK from Norway!
Pickup mine yesterday 😊 at GC. I spent 3 hrs choosing at their acoustic room. A lot of guitars to choose. Never really thought of getting this one until I pick it up. I tried Martins and Taylors first. Tried another brand and always come back to this PRS SE A50E model. Of course in the 1k and below price range. I didn't bother trying the one with almost 3k price tag😂 of Taylors and Martins.
I have one of these guitars and love it , I play Celtic fingerstyle and find the sustain and harmonics outstanding , it sounds even better when plugged into my Yamaha tha5. The Guitar is aesthetically beautiful as well. Once tuned it holds is tuning for days .😊😊😊
I thought this China/PRS sounded way way better than OK. I see it on the web for $699. With the laminated curly maple (laminated materials definitely can sound surprisingly good), mother of pearl - abalone inlays and beautiful fit and finish, from a distance, I'd have to move this up towards one of the better starter deals for consideration. I'd want to play it first. Other starters I like or own: Yamaha FS830 & AC1R, and Recording King / Fender Newporter and other starter Fenders / Alvarez Yiari / Epiphone Masterbilt and starter recommendations/reviews by JP Cormier, Chris McKee and Cooper Greenberg. Thanks for paying attention to this end of the market! It's so great to see so much value pouring in at this level.
I own one of these guitars in grey finish maple on the back and sides it looks beautiful sounds beautiful I am a celtic guitar player and when I am in full flow playing I am sure the birds fly up and down the fret board, Its simply is the best guitar I have, a work of high art. Try playing it in DADGAD it will blow your mind. 👍😊
I am torn about this model I really want to like it, it looks stunning. Buuuut I compared it to the tayor academy a22e walnut which is the same price here in NZ and the Taylor easily more playable and comfortable. That shiny coating they have on the PRS make the neck feel bit sticky even more so if your hand gets bit sweaty were the Taylor is amazing smooth. This isn't coming from a Taylor fan boy I really wanted to like this guitar
@@darrekweaver1977 I own the PRS S2 Custom 22 Semi Hollow. It is a magnificent instrument, but in my opinion needs a pickup change as would the SE. I also have the Marc Holcomb SE. Both guitars were flawless in fit and finish and play wonderfully. The fretwork and the wood choices on the S2 are better but the difference is not the same as say a 700$ Fender vs a 1700$ Fender. In some ways PRS shoots itself in the foot because the SE line is so good. However the Marc Holcomb is a signature SE so probably not completely fair to use in comparison but I dont regret the S2 its right up there with my Ultra Tele and SRV Signature.
I used to own A50E (natural finish, no cutaway, no pickup). For a week :) I find this guitar pretty hard to play, perhaps my particular piece required some set-up. Basically my first impression wasn't way too good, regardless the guitar looks really nice. Besides the price im my opinion is prohibitive for the guitar build with laminate (only top is from solid-wood). By the way - great playing, Jon!
Jonathan, if your budget was anything under $1000, and you wanted the very best guitar in this bracket with the most versatile sound and playability, what would you buy?! Ever try an Orangewood guitar?! Also I know Yamaha has a lot to offer and PRS just makes awesome guitars. Love you Sir...
Oh cool! Definitely interested in what you think. I have it.. it's definitely bright which i like. Seems very well made.. just a nice guitar. Good to see it played by a master.
Just subscribed. Really enjoy your videos. Hopefully you can review some of the new D’Angelico excel acoustic guitars soon! Keep up the great work and God Bless! 🙏
Beautiful intro Jon. That looked like it was a very decent player. Like it was easy to bend which can be an issue with acoustics. Lovely breathy sound too. I’m not sure about the abalone inlays sound the body with that colour but that’s just me. 😀 Very interesting as I didn’t associate PRS with acoustics. Thanks Jon 😀😀👍❤️
My primary guitar is Maton with a good action, comfortable. I need a second guitar for some gigs and pubs with the possibility to set the action low as possible as well. Is it possible ?
Hi Jonathan, is it me or are we missing the richness of a Martin tone ? This PRS SE sounds boxy to my ears. Beautiful neck, beautiful back, but the top color is not my taste. Thanks for presenting us all those guitars.
Very nice playing Jonathan! I was considering this over the Taylor Academy 10e. Mostly due to looks and that it's a PRS! Tell me if you think. Please and thank you. Thanks for the review!
I own and love my Taylor 224ce and have played the 10e. For me, the PRS made much more sense than the 10e. Just my opinion. 10e is still a very fine instrument, though.
BUY ONE! I just got the maple and man, videos don't do these justice. I played my maple prs a50e alongside a taylor 414ce rosewood and it blew the taylor away, and the prs strings were totally dead lol I'm all for support the USA but some of these guitar company's are out of control. $6000 for a gibson with horrible finish and sounds like trash. PRS is my new favorite, next is the a60e ziricote:)
@@JonIsJustTooLoud 👊👊awesome review, I agree 100 the neck is a tad thick like an old school less paul size. For me I actually prefer it over my Larrivee thin profile, sometimes thin makes it hard to manage some chords. I'm curious about plugging it in now. What's your favorite pickup for acoustic, LR baggs Anthem?
