    Hey Eugene, all your videos have been great and help me build a couple of bikes. First one I built, was for my dad, and I miss riding it so much that I had to build another one for myself. Now I'm building one for my girlfriend but this one's a four stroke the last two were two strokes. Some people just don't get it, on these builds, now all my builds are with huffy beach cruisers and I've had no problems. One of these days I'd love to have you build me a board track racer with a 4 stroke engine, with a in tank frame. Thanks for the videos Jason.

    Thanks for this video. I bought a 49cc bike off of craigslist for $60. Worked fine for a week and then the chain popped off. The rear wheel bearings got a little bit loose. Also the sprocket is at an angle. Wasn't sure how to adjust everything until I seen this video.

    I had problems installing the sprocket due to a few spokes being in the way and going off center when when starting to tighen the bolts followed the instructions. After a hour or so of being frustrated so I came up with a idea to use a socket that fit perfectly in the center of the sprocket hole and made sure that was centered, (it basically centered itself) and of course used the tire nut to tighen the socket down tight on the hub and then the sprocket was very much centered and I could tighen up the socket to the spokes with sprocket staying in the center. I'm sure it could be off by a millimeter or two but when I measured everything when done I couldn't tell if it was off centered. No problems peddling or running the engine at top speed.

    This is like the 3rd time I've seen people having to grind out the center of a new sprocket and or the dust cap as well to get shit to fit on standard hubs and shit over years timeframe? Are you telling me they still don't just make sprockets inside diameters by the millimeter that just freaking bolt on? Geez, drag racers wouldn't put up with that shit for this long. God bless you. 😢

    Pro tip, if you get rid of those cages you can fit all the bearings that should be in there. Just use some thick grease to hold them in during assembly, local hardware should have loose bearings same size as those in your caged ones.

    I never use a rag joint. I spend the 15 or 20 dollars for a hub adapter. Faster, stronger, and much easier to install. I have never bent a spoke, or had a failure. Good luck with your builds.

    If you don't want to bend the brake arm you can exchange the bolts with round head hex bolts. Helped me!
    To verify if your sprocket is concentric with the wheel, measure from the center stud to the valley between the teeth at several apposing locations. You can tap the sprocket with a rubber mallet to help move it around, as your tightening the bolts.
    Great Hobby!

    The easy way to align the sprocket , with small pipe the diameter of the outside hub and a washer with the inside nut diameter you can push and align almost perfect the sprocket,in my case my sprocket inside diameter was a about 1/8 bigger than the outside hub so I use electrical tape Araund the hub to fit the gap,the align was pretty easy. I’m not and English speaker but hope it help .

    I noticed you didn't put the dust cover back on over the bearings. I had mine on and when I tightened down the rag joint, my wheel wouldn't turn until I loosened up the bolts because the rag joint sprocket was pushing the dust cover too tight against the bearings. So I guess it's ok to leave the dust cover off?

    • @HughesMotorized

    I've started my first motorized bike build and I've ran into a huge headache.
    hoping you can help me.
    I ordered a Huffy Panama Jack off Amazon. When it arrived, the rear wheel was bent horribly. I wasn't too concerned because I planned to change the rims anyway to something more sturdy.
    I ended up purchasing a Weinmann AS7X set on line with a 3 speed Nexus Hub.
    The sprocket that came with my Flying Horse 66cc/80cc kit will not fit over the Nexus hub.
    To make matters even more difficult, the hub will not fit between the wheel slots on the bike.
    My wife has a Huffy Regatta and it came with the 3 speed Nexus Hub. I assumed the same set up would fit on the Panama Jack.
    what can I do to get this right?

  • @rgbigdog
    @rgbigdog 6 лет назад

    Why is there not a alignment disk that bolts on to the axle that keeps the the sprocket center when you install this on your wheel? When you buy a clutch /pressure plate kit for your car they include a alignment tool with the kit.

  • @MsAhlexusP
    @MsAhlexusP 3 года назад +1

    You can use a 1 1/16 1/2 short well socket to hold the sproket center. While you tighten your sproket to the wheel. It also helps to make another ring to put over the 3 pieces on the inside around the hub. It keeps the 3 pieces centered and they wont over lap each other. On freewheel or cassette hubs, it's a 1inch 1/2 shortwhell socket (beach cruisers) mtb are uasllay 1 3/16 socket. Some axles are long enough to put the nut on to keep the socket centered. On some 64 tooth steel sprockets you have to use a round file. To bevel the edge. If you have a steel hub and steel sproket. You can take apart the hub. And spot weld the sproket to the hub. Just keep in mind if your running wide tires. 2.00, 2.75 etc the sproket has to be the widest spacer on the out side. Or you chain will hit your tire.

    This was a good video. However the viewer who does not have experience with how to tighten bearings in would probably do better to leave them alone, and just trust the amount of grease in the wheel (if it's new). This guy is a pro and a newbie might do more harm than good.

    I think the fact they call this a rag joint is kind of funny. It as actually a compression joint if you want a proper old fashion term. In need of some advice from some of you guys out there" or girls" I bought a Kit motor and it says to complete the pancake part of it you take the two pieces of rubber cut one in between the holes slide it in no problem then you take three pieces of metal put it up against that rubber on the inside of the spokes and press some up against another piece of rubber in there and connect those three pieces of metal to two pieces of metal two plates rounded plate with holes in them so that would complete your pancake but mine didn't come with that mine came with just the three pieces of metal you know the rounded curved metal with three holes in each one to make the nine hole pattern so do I go ahead and use just those three pieces or am I supposed to go out and buy some buy those other two plates somewhere else or some some other way to do this can somebody please help me with this I'm really stuck

      Fixed it. Looks like it's out of stock everywhere. You can get a great wheel from Husy Bicycles @ www.huskybicycles.com/bicycle-wheel-26-x-2125-with-coaster-brake-12g-spokes.html

    You don't need to grind off the dust cover cause the sprocket never gets that close to the wheel...the rubber keeps the sprocket off the wheel.

      dougsr8745 Just put mine together today (twice) and can feel an hear somethings wrong have boiled it down to dust cover. Sprocket has it smashed together an creating lots of friction. Watched a few vids an some get rid of it an this guy ground it off. Pick ur poison. Guess I'm getting ready for round three SMDH

    Great video! In the old days,(I started building motorbikes in 1968 or so,8th grade) I never had trouble with the spoke's rings coming off of the hub!China bikes arent welded to the hub.They are pressed onto a fine 'splined' edge. Their brngs.are suspect,at best.Thank God for The welder.Most of my bikes are antique,but I do have some with cheap rims.Check 'em out! John wade,you tube.thanks.

    Shouldn't the rear wheel be tuned first ? If the spokes arent correct I dont see how the sprocket can be. Im tune both wheels before I even look at the engine. 2 cents worth.

    The best way to use a rag joint sprocket is to throw it in the trash, then get a hub mount.

      They both have their pluses and minuses. I'd prefer a steel wheel with machined in mounting holes as part of the hub. Expensive, so.. No go for me. Too cheap. But.... I'll go to Husky Bike's website. They sell Industrial bikes and parts. They sell heavy steel wheels w/ 11ga spokes and even a moped style front hub brake w/ 11ga spokes and heavy steel wheels and use a rag joint on the rear coaster one

      Paul Metcalf, I weigh 180 pounds, I've used my adapter on two different wheels with no slippage, and those three bolts are 3/8" thick and are made of hardened steel. Almost everything you said is wrong.

    Check out eBay for the 'Easy sprocket assembly tool'. You'll need a little drum sander on a Dremel or drill to modify your sprocket hole but it's easy and makes sprocket installation a snap.

      Demitri Stepanian actually it will work with disc brakes but you need to get 120 millimeter rear rotor or use a rotor sprocket from the Mini Bike World I use disc brake hubs and build an adapter for the sprocket no disc brake I rely on the rim brakes for stopping if you get a narrow enough hub or used plenty of spacing you can put the disc brake and the sprocket together tight fit though
